    Thanks so much for going to the trouble to showing, UP CLOSE, exactly how a trap is set up. I have heard about "Straight-Sticks" and. "Toggle-Sticks" and "Y-Sticks", but after that...nothing is shown up close! I have requested, in several different vids, to slide a piece of paper in under the trap, so the configuration would stand out. So far, I havent seen that done yet. By you pulling the leaves back, and explaining exactly, UP CLOSE, what you were doing and exactly how the trap worked, it finally makes since to me! Thank you, SO MUCH!!!

    Knot tip: if you start the bowline around the line before you tie it, you wont have to feed it back thru. By the way, this is the best explained trap video ive watched, to date. I have watched it many times and have shared it to countless individuals. Thank you

    I was just teaching at the Harvest Gathering in Ontario Canada this past weekend. Its sad how many people do not know knots. My request to you is that you show the knot processes of the ones you are using.

    Keep in mind, the less of your scent, the better chance of animals nearing your traps, so if and when possible, use other sticks to brush away your area.
    Great video. Helpful information.
    Straight to the point, no sales pitch... You deserve more views.

      Not exactly true according to Recent studies. Some of the top trappers in the country don't wear gloves or worry about human odors at their sets. I even seen one piss all over a set made for coyotes and have one in the trap the next day. And then go on to catch 180 coyotes in 9 days and 300+ in just 3 weeks. When an animal smells your scent in an area all that tells him is that you were there at some point not that you are still there.

    Using a green pole, in freezing weather, will result in the pole not springing upward with the force you are hoping to have. A dead weight drop will work better.

    Instead of the twig on the post couldn't you carve a downward slant on the inside of your post where the bait stick meets the post and lean the post towards the bait stick so the further up on the post the tighter the bait stick would be but as soon as an animal pushed down at all it would come loose. You wouldn't need a point on your bait stick. Good video, Thank you.

  • @latreen1

    About what size animal can you trap with a snare like this? Could you get a raccoon? Do animals ever chew the cord to escape? And last but not least is this meant to hang the animal like a noose or just trap it?

    hello. i have been keeping up on your videos and they are great. id like to thank you for sharing all of this with everyone.. now i have a few questions for you.. the first being.. do you think that it is possible to live in the bush using the skills that you teach? i mean if you were to take all of the materials you think you would need and with the knowledge you have, plus field guides.. do you think you could be self sufficient? and how long do you think you could do that for if not?

    • @Nativesurvival
      @Nativesurvival  10 років тому

      of course, it all depends on the area's ability to sustain a person though, if its barren of meat then your in trouble.

      that makes perfect sense.. for me, i live in canada so i think that BC would probably be best for me.. fairly warm winters compared to sask where i live :P
      that is great to hear because nobody around here is interested in this kind of stuff and everyone tells me it is impossible without a rifle or some type of gun.. but i don't want to believe them.. thank you very much

    what i am curious about is why these guys strip the branches when the make their spring??? I would think that makes your traps easier to spot???

    • @yankeejedi2575
      @yankeejedi2575 3 роки тому

      It cuts down on drag with the air to enable them to spring faster. I leave a few leaves at the top and at the base so the tree lives.

  • @joecox5710
    @joecox5710 10 років тому

    but if the animal isnt touching the snare for example i the middle while eating it, it wouldnt be caught because the snare is already on top of it so wouldnt it be easier to put the noose bit under the bait stick? or have a net under the bait stick???

    • @Nativesurvival
      @Nativesurvival  10 років тому

      ? the bait stick is only a few inches off the ground, only a chipmunk would be able to do that and their best trapped by deadfall not snare, this is for larger animals like rabbit, marmot, fox etc

    Can't you just use a slip knot for the snare?

    • @Raithius1
      @Raithius1 8 років тому +2

      slip knots typically have more resistance to constricting the loop since they can tighten on the running end. the bowline is a locked loop which in no way restrains the function of the snare.
