I remember watching this as a kid, years ago. Probably this video is some of the reason I fell in love with Mercedes and now I got one as my first car. Well, a C-class, not a SL but it's still so nice, I love it ;) Just wanted to share haha
@@PipoAMG Fair enough. That's likely more p.w.r. than the SL65. And these old 65's have the 5G tronic, pretty sluggish. But they definitely are fast and with a bit of tweaking can do 350-360km/h. A friend had a CL65 that did 351 on a gps with minor work to it.
after 150km/h it's faster than every new car(m5-m6 458,rs6,r8 v10, gtr).Only the zr1 is still faster and moreover it's a gen 1 with 5 speed... this car has low downforce and long gears thanks to the torque
In my vision, the SL65 Black Series is faster than the ZR1. And it is also much heavier. The 6.0 V12 biturbo Mercedes-Benz engine is no match for the competition.
The 250kmh is a fuel cut speed limiter making it very hard to exceed 250, the 086 package which gives you a 300kmh top speed is done by rev limiting so it is possible to go a little bit over...Then again it is as well possible to go to a tuner company and ask for the limiter to be set at 999kmh so you can go almost to 330kmh
It's highly likely that this car has the AMG modification which raises the limiter to 186mph (300kph) from 155mph (250kph). Like all speedometers it's probably slightly optimistic hence the 310kph (193mph) reading. If the limiter is completely disabled, the SL65 AMG is capable of a top speed of 338kph (210mph). However, if you're intent on going that speed, the tyres would have to be uprated for safety reasons as the tyres on this car are rated to a maximum 186mph.
The Veyron features a W16 engine - 16 cylinders in two banks of eight cylinders, or the equivalent of two narrow-angle V8 engines mated in a "W" configuration. Each cylinder has 4 valves for a total of 64, but the narrow staggered 8 configuration allows two camshafts to drive two banks of cylinders so only 4 camshafts are needed. The engine is fed by four turbochargers and displaces 8.0 L (7,993 cc/488 cu in) with a square 86 mm by 86 mm (3.4 in × 3.4 in) bore and stroke.
@BiggestCookie That's why the SR-71 blackbird's gas tanks had gaps in it. When it went mach 3.5, the titanium shell heated up and expanded. This filled the gaps in. If those gaps were filled to begin with, the metal would deform.
Depends on the car but an Oil temperature reading of just over 100° Celsius is not particularly abnormal. Need to remember that Oil has a completely different and much higher boiling point to water.
wow Mercedes Benz is such a good car it is sporty and luxury at the same time thats whats so good about benz they know what they are doing unlike other cars
A limiter is likely functioning in this video. As a cost option on the 63 & 65 models (certainly available in Europe), AMG will raise the limiter from 155mph to 186mph. It costs just over €3,000. It's likely that the car in this video is hitting the new limiter (as I stated before most car speedometer's are optimistic hence 310km/h is probably a true 300km/h). As stated previously, the SL65 AMG has been clocked at 338km/h (210mph) without any form of limiter.
My friend has an A6 and A4 since 1999 10 years he has been driving this car, and these are the only problems he said he has with cars. Also, I am a mechanic and I work with german cars. I know what I am talking about, its good for you though that ur car is in good shape, that means u take care of it :) good for you.
WOW! The acceleration at speeds over 160 is just amazingthats where the torque come to its right! Its when the wind resistance of the car is huge that the torque enables the engine to keep reving up, despite the enormous resistance! A car with even more BHP but less torque could not do this!
depends on the car. Because normally the the reason why cars like the CL is limited to 250 km/h is, if it went up to 310 km/h you would also need 310km/h tires, 310km/h brakes and that'd cost a lot! And with the AMGs normally you go to a driver training for a weekend and after it you can go free
@Tha0men No that means they had to limit it at 310 because above 310 the stresses on one or more of the parts are so great that the design engineers cannot guarantee they can handle it and survive untill the next maintenance. Don't forget, this is not a circuit car that gets a whole night of maintenance after every day it came out to play.
@dazzaw1 There are two temperatures given, the top one is presumably the outside temperature, which is increasing as the car goes faster, unless of course you wish to infer that are car going at 300+ kmh would have an engine temperature of around 20 degrees...
Yeh, that makes sense. I knew that for an extra charge, AMG will take off the limiter, but wasn't sure if it was really the case or not. And I guess, if you are going to have such a monster of a car, then having it restricted is pretty pointless.
Max speed of this car is 348 km/h on track Nardo in Italy. I'v been watching on German Tv . This car have 612 hp, 1000nm toerque, 0-100 in 4,2 sek, 0-200 in 12,9. and this car weight is over 2 tones.
Gypsykilla, SL65's can either be limited to 155 mph or 186 mph. Most other AMGs are limited to 155(V8 AMG cars). Regular Mercedes are limited to 130 MPH. I use to work for HBL of Tysons, a premier Mercedes dealership, and most people who own these cars often have chips that can take the limiter off.
@mynock05 but temperature goes up very quickly, from 100 till 112 if you go that speed for longer time you will overheate. If there isn't any aditional coller
@Tha0men your point was only half right. It can do much much more just not in the hands of everyone. The car is not fucked it's been slightly idiot-proofed. By the way thumbs up for the passive agression.
@raptowny18 this is because it has only 5 gears...what a shame, Mercedes didn't bother to modify the 7g-tronic to handle the 1000nm torque comming from that biturbo-v12. Still, a pretty fast car, though.
This is the oil temperature. And it's no problem that it goes above 100°C. The manual of my car says, that the operation temperature of the oil is 100°C and more... And it's only a 3,0 6-cylinder. So I think 113° is no problem for a sportscar...
that's because the weight of it is already pushig it along so it dosn't have to heave its weight off the line. Less pressure/ force to contend with still fsst though
Hmm, I assume this car had the limiter taken off? Because as far as I am aware, all factory Mercedes cars (including the AMG ones) have their top speed electronically limited to 250kph (155mph)?
@theAandMproduction Yea exactly the M6 is tuned by G power, have u seen the SL65 AMG BRABUS BLACK SERIES? 720+ HP. That throws ur lil M6 in the dump :)
In theory, yes. In reality, there is 120km/h on at least 1/2 of German highways. On the remaining half, it is a repair work, or the traffic and trucks are too much. There is very little possibility to go too fast there ...
@irideansr i didnt say that the 7 series is better. I only wanted to say thats the same priceclass where you get the same quality. so its not easy to decide between Audi A8, BMW 7series and Mercedes S-class. Also the VW Phaeton is good.

I just love the buttersmooth upshift from 4th to 5th gear of that 5G Gearbox.

@mynock05 but temperature goes up very quickly, from 100 till 112 if you go that speed for longer time you will overheate. If there isn't any aditional coller
thats because at 240 the speed intervals go from 20 km/h to 30 km/h thats why the needle moves slower.
The oil temperature ^^

@bjgnrforever it isnt bullshit, the air creates friction along the body of the car and the surface will increase in temp only slightly.
