You're the first person I've ever seen do a skim coat on new drywall. I've done a lot of drywall in US and Canada and never seen it done. The only time was to fix imperfections in old homes with plaster and lathe walls. What you're doing is called rendering in Europe. It seems your method is faster than theirs. Excellent job!
Oiled pine will continue to darken over the years, becoming more orange or yellow. If you like how the pine looks now, use a stain with a sheer hint of white in it.
my experience with putting oil on unfinished pine is that it will turn orange, gold over time, so you may want to consider that. It won't stay the same as what it is new with a few oil coats on it
We just had a kitchen reno done and I asked my contractor about the skim coat and he looked at me like I had three heads. You really do some seriously top tier work Spencer!
We removed popcorn ceiling and instead of texture we chose to do skim coating and it turned out amazing. Will do that moving forward. I like the look better than texture

You can water down normal paint 50:50 as the first coat. The peeling happens because the plaster sucks all the moisture out of the paint so you need to give it a good drink first. Then you can do normal coats of paint afterwards. Container is really coming to life now! Your plastering is really neat Spencer!

My wife and i can always tell when y'all are a a little sleep deprived lol. Love how goofy you both get. We also are enjoying your drywall progress as we are at the same stage of our house remodel.
Hope you read this. For the walls in moving the trailer, get some thick plywood sheets butted upon the walls and use some 2X4s to brace the walls (from wall to Wall) so that you can minimize the damage from moving the trailer. It properly will not completely save all the walls, but at least most of them will be spared. Your hard work is excellent.
I think they are expecting quite a lot of transit damage built have saved thousands by doing 90% of the heavy construction on their home site prior to going into the bush.
I worked in paint. If you are using drywall, it is best to use a primer and not a paint and primer for the first coat to seal it. The advantage of paint and primer is to allow quick coverage of repair spots rather than to prime the whole room. Primer is designed for undercoat and sealant where paint is designed to be the finish coat. I always primed new walls with primer and repaired patches with a two coats of the finish paint. The problem with priming with paint and primer product is it is hard to ensure all of the area has two full coats.
@richardw5375 I've seen people asking for it before. I gu ess it passed away or something, but it seems like they don't want to talk about it. It hasn't been on the videos for a long time.
Its coming along nicely, congratulation on your new arrival guys. I feel like that I have missed something from your journey, I haven't seen your other dog in the footage, I hope that they are well.
Everything is looking good y'all! How is the pond doing? Haven't heard you discuss it in a long time. Still have the solar fountain going and has it cleared up? Love watching the kids growing & playing together!
Fantastic transformation! Heres my prediction, ya'll will start another homestead in the mountains, and move there permanently. We'll see what the next year brings...😂😅 Love ya'll ❤️
I'd consider the danish. The other takes seven coats, redone annually, won't resist grease and it will off gas inside your home. It's great for patio furniture though, especially teak.
Your skills are impressive. What kind of truck will it take to haul the container cabin? What will be the estimated weight of the finished container? Are those type metal containers structurally strong enough not to flex any during movement? I am just wondering if any of the Sheetrock will have any cracks after transporting it long distance.
I was just wondering how they are going transport the cabin once it's done. Like how they going to lift and with the rough terrain I just hope it won't damage the interior.
Hey guys have incredible content, we are in the planning phase of building a container house and have been absorbing your videos. When you lay down the flooring, is is necessary to lay down a plywood base before if we are not adding any insulation under it? I appreciate it
We have this really deep/obnoxious swirl texture pattern on our walls. Thinking about doing a set of skim coats to fill in the swirls to make the walls smooth rather than trying to sand off all the swirl texture mud. What are you doing next week Spencer? 😂😂😂.
Congratulations on your new baby girl! You both work great as a team. You did such a great job on the rooms. I absolutely love your precious family and the videos you share with all of us. ❤😊

Your little cabin is looking fantastic, you both did a really nice job. The skin coat just tops it up for that professional look. Good video guys!! 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Just a little insight for you I work in the paint department of a big box store and those so called paint and primer combos is just a marketing ploy they dont add anything to paint it just means first coat is primer and second coat is paint and if you dont prime drywall before you paint then your drywall soaks up all the paint and you will have to do multiple coats
Go with a gray stain and/or pour alittle bit of gray stain into the stain you like. You're just experimenting so go slowly. Start with 1 teaspoon of your current stain(s) and use EYE DROPPER you can test some options on the wood. Keep track of the every test and it's a MUST to write down the chosen recipe. A little math and you can scale to whatever your big batch amount you need.
Congratulations Again, baby number 3? I have been watching off and on since the first container was brought in. When Ya'all just left your job, sold what you both had. There is a primer sealer for new drywall must be applied before any paint
whatever color you decide, make it a light color as the cabin is VERY small. lighter just makes the space look bigger.

It properly will not completely save all the walls, but at least most of them will be spared. Your hard work is excellent.
I think they are expecting quite a lot of transit damage built have saved thousands by doing 90% of the heavy construction on their home site prior to going into the bush.
you had the issues on your hose of paint peeling. Get Zinser Bulls Eye primer WATER BASED. That stuff works great.
Spencer and Kenzie make beautiful babies💜💜💜 room for one more handsome boy!!!!1🙏🙏🙏💜💜💜
You can get a hi-gloss furniture finish with tongue oil. It takes a lot of coats and steel wool between coats.
Hahaha the baby crying right when you said she looked like Spencer is hilarious.Awww bear is getting to be an old man
Was funny🤣😂
What happened to the little dog???
The child was born with perfect comedic timing!
@richardw5375 I've seen people asking for it before. I gu ess it passed away or something, but it seems like they don't want to talk about it. It hasn't been on the videos for a long time.
@@nancypatricio9972I had been wandering as well. Thanks for the explanation.
Its coming along nicely, congratulation on your new arrival guys. I feel like that I have missed something from your journey, I haven't seen your other dog in the footage, I hope that they are well.
Great work guys. Love seeing the kids outside playing. Still would love seeing the old barn get some TLC. God bless.😊😊😊😊😊
What ended up happening with your pond. Did the aeration change the composition a lot?
Everything is looking good y'all! How is the pond doing? Haven't heard you discuss it in a long time. Still have the solar fountain going and has it cleared up? Love watching the kids growing & playing together!
Fantastic transformation! Heres my prediction, ya'll will start another homestead in the mountains, and move there permanently. We'll see what the next year brings...😂😅 Love ya'll ❤️
The walls look great Spencer !
The cabin is turning out so nice. Spencer does such great work.
Spencer has a ton of patience to do all the steps of a task. yes, Spencer is very Impressive.
It's coming along nicely, guys. The kids are so cute. Totally enjoyed the video.
God bless you guys.🦋🤗
I was just wondering how they are going transport the cabin once it's done. Like how they going to lift and with the rough terrain I just hope it won't damage the interior.
Hey guys have incredible content, we are in the planning phase of building a container house and have been absorbing your videos. When you lay down the flooring, is is necessary to lay down a plywood base before if we are not adding any insulation under it? I appreciate it
I take it the skim coat provides a smooth finish and replaces the need for any type of textured finish, like orange peel.
As far as I know, both Tung Oil and Danish Oil require you to rub them after they have dried (vigorously?) to bring out the grain and gloss level.
We have this really deep/obnoxious swirl texture pattern on our walls. Thinking about doing a set of skim coats to fill in the swirls to make the walls smooth rather than trying to sand off all the swirl texture mud. What are you doing next week Spencer? 😂😂😂.
You are both so adorable, love the light hearted jokes ❗️🙏🏻🥰🤩
Congratulations on your new baby girl! You both work great as a team. You did such a great job on the rooms. I absolutely love your precious family and the videos you share with all of us. ❤😊
loved the video y'all
💕💖💕 love seeing the kids they are growing like a weed 🩷🩵🩷 the cabin looks really bright& beautiful nowadays.... can't wait for y'all to head up the mountain with it and set 'er in place 💚
Your little cabin is looking fantastic, you both did a really nice job. The skin coat just tops it up for that professional look. Good video guys!! 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Kenzie por favor, legendas em Português (Brasil)? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’d go with a stain oil will turn yellow on pine but whatever you want no judgement here ❤
Thats really coming along beautifully. Start to get a feel for what it will look like in there.
Oh baby is beautiful just like your other kids....... mama your looking good to❤❤❤heart
Used you saving to move to your property and start building. Same time we retired and bought our 50 acres in the out back of Oregon. We have the same 2000 green Honda crv. I wish I had the DRIVE both of you have. I LOVE what You have done with the place . The Mountain project was amazing to watch also...... Hope to see ya'll again soon
