Sorry I do not have the knowledge like you
I just got a 525i , has a yellow /green like prestone coolling
Who knows for how long
Should i flush the system , and use" blue" peak or Bmw concentrated
Or is not bad keeping using green after the flush
Thank you in advance
Cause I don't get why is a difference on the colors
Coolants r coolants rigth?
My biggest problem in life is i buy BMW
If you take care everyday and be careful it doesnt have a problem getting floored everyday
@@itzpro. i barely drive it... even not me everybody says this for BMW
Not true, I love my bmw . Just take care of your cars man
@@isaiasbarriga1622 yeah not true. All my maintenance is up to date. The problem is that it has a ton of problems that go bad that just shouldn't at low miles. The water pump goes bad, oil pan gasket, oil filter housing gasket, they had 6 recalls come out for just the 3 series e90. Its poorly built. The fucking door handles melted on my passenger side.

Where does the air go if the cap and bleeding screw is not loose?
Avia S fins an answer yet?
Marcus Wright II, Not the exact answer but everywhere is says the system gets rid of the air in "some other ways", gonna have to trust it I guess :d
Wait what? System cannot get rid of air by it self... It's completely sealed (well, it have to be sealed). That's why we have bleeding screw...

So i was low on coolant does that mean i have a leak? Wouldnt want to have a blown head gasket or something
What happened?
Anything ? I keep having to add coolant to my car everyday, I haven’t bled it yet but did you figure it out?
I’m about to replace the upper radiator hose and you’re just amazing I saved hundreds just by watching bmw fanatic DIY’s love this channel
bleeding screw on/off, cap on/off.. no explanation of anything no ability to teach
never do this while your car is HOT! never open that cap
Ignacio Romero YOLO
Lmao o my. Every car guys.
This is the right way to do it as described in the bentley manual cap closed, bleeder closed... I did this procedure after i replaced my upper radiator hose that cracked open and spilled 6L of coolant. I lost a little bit of coolant after the test drive so I ran it again and noticed a pinhole leak in my expansion tank hose. So this is a great procedure to not only test the water pump (if you hear it whirring and coolant circulate its good), but also to pressurize the coolant system and check for pinhole leaks that you might not see otherwise.
If you have an older bmw 100k+ miles 2009 I recommend you replace the upper/lower radiator hoses, coolant hoses. Even though the rubber exterior looked great the plastic connectors inside melted/corroded and lost the seal.
Scott Schumacher same thing happened to me, freaking O ring in the upper coolant hose snapped and leaked coolant EVERYWHERE
I'm watching this video because it happened to me. Brought aftermarket top hose, it's leaking at connections, what did I do wrong
geo745don Buy an OEM hose, aftermarkets don’t always fit perfect
Also be sure to always use the bmw specified coolant.
Regular coolant deteriorates the hoses.
Did it explain what the bleeder screw is for then?
are you supposed to unscrew the bleeder screw on the tank?
Exactly, didnt show if we need to open the cap and bleeder..pls respond tq
I changed my pump/thermostat (N55, 135i) yesterday and need to bleed the system. However, this video or the video from BavAuto never mentioned to take it out of Auto for the HVAC. I followed the procedure with the Auto left on, temp set to 84 and fan speed set to low and pressed the throttle pedal for 10 seconds. It was my first time running through this procedure so I left it running for 12 minutes but the pump never cycled on/off. In addition the engine fan started to blow on super high speed. I disconnected the engine fan but left the rest as is. I Googled for max engine fan during bleed but the articles I found were related to a bad water pump. Well, I just changed my pump so I doubt that was it but you never know if they sent a bad part. So I had to try it again and see if it will do it again. But this time, I took it off Auto and repeated the rest of the steps. Well, it worked after I took it out of Auto. The pump ran and cycled on/off etc. However, after about 3 or so minutes of cycling it stopped for close to a minute and I started to get worried. The previous stops was never that long and I started to wonder, is it suppose to stop that long???? I ended up leaving it as is and it started it up again. Point is...Once it starts to cycle, leave it and let it do its thing. But thank you for ALL the videos you've posted.
thanks dude
Hey dude, I got the same problem. How do you take it off auto though
hi bro, I just replaced the radiator on my 335i x drive n55 engine and Im wondering how to purge the system to remove the air before starting the car again?
BMW Fanatic
So question, if the system is closed then how does the aire get out? Every other car I have ever worked on to bleed the air out I HAD to have a way for the air to escape: Like unscrew the cap, a bleeder valve or something? ? On my wife's VW I had to remove the heater hose, the highest place for the air to get trapped.
This is the first BMW that I have owned, I have avoided them because they have to many ISSUES but my wife wanted it and her old VW Golf just turned 200k.
Do I have to unscrew bleeder cap or the coolant cap to begin this process?
Not very in depth description at all.
I've seen other video of making sure tank brimmed with coolant, then releasing bleed screw to remove any bubbles, then starting bleed process.
hi do take off the cap during the bleeding process or leave on,did the process twice and still have a couple of bubbles any ideas
SO U DIDN'T HAVE TO ADD ANY COOLANT WHILE IT WAS BLEEDING
No, you check it after and add more if it’s low after bleeding
@@BMWFanatic PERFECT THANKS 🍻
I love everyday owning my 135i, but everyday i also wonder when it will break. When will my turbos go bad, when does my hpfp take a dump. When does my water pump go bad. Will i have to buy injectors, will my belt break and engine eat it.
Do i love it or do i hate it. Lol
I got a faster procedure. Take the reservoir cap off, start the car, let run for 5 minutes , top off if needed, put the cap back on😂
Hi Mr. Fanatic, loving your videos, they have helped me understand the n54 engine from basic to advance, I have been using my 135i since it was 85k now is about 90k, so i was doing oil changing, oil housing and coolant new gaskets, i also took apart the whole front including oil & coolant radiators, headlights etc, to be able too clean messy old and power steering fluid mess caused by previous owner, i am stuck in the coolant part:
1- I want to drain the remaining old coolant from engine block and make sure there is nothing left, is there a coolant bolt in the n54 block?
2- Do You think I drained all coolant since i unmounted the radiator and host from coolant pump?
3- Should i do a bleed with distilled water instead?
Thanks in advanced for your time, your videos are of great inspiration...Best!!!
Great video! Thanks for posting! Do you have a video on the full procedure of draining, flushing and filling new BMW coolant? I've looked everywhere and can't find anything for the N52/54's. You certainly seem knowledgeable, not to mention $300 at the dealer! Insane!
When you see the same question in the comments, it’s time for an update
Just replaced my waterpump & thermostat today. Was about to make a video on this actually haha, just in time man! Thanks.
ESG heck ya man!
Thanks :)
Hello! Congrats for the video it was very helpfull! Can i do this procedure to actually drain and replace the coolant? Tks...
Heater won’t come on with switch on, and car off. Only if I start car, then the heater will come on? How do I bleed it now ?
With mine (09 x-5 ) I have to insert the key fob. With my foot OFF of the the break I press the button to start. The car wont start but all the gadgets come on including the heater.
Idk why I always thought this was so confusing to do, you explained very well, Thank you!!!
Bro you talk to much bro
Does this work on n55?
I tried on my 2012 x3 35i N55 and couldnt get it to work. did you?
I replace my thermostat without bleeding it without doing it this way (I thought it was e46 style way of air bleeding )and my heater wasn’t getting hot and after doing this procedure it works perfectly fine
This procedure is definitely not the same for the 2009 BMW 535i .....
what if i dont connect the battery charger and do the procedure? or battery has to be hooked up.
JUST PREVENTS BATTERY FROM GOING DEAD IF ITS AN OLDER BATTERY IS ALL
I want to find a coolant flush for the F10 model and how to bleed it and I can't find any useful videos.
Should be a drain plug on the radiator? Check out bimmerpost or f10post whatever it is. You will find tons of answers there!:)
My climate control is messed up and won’t go to 84 . I have pro tools and I can run the water pump through there , can I get it done this way without replacing the climate control ???? Please answer 😢
Saved my ass man thx
I'm wondering if you'd know why the water pump doesn't switch on and off in the bleeding process? I been sorting out coolant leaks due to the quick disconnect o rings and every time I cycle on the bleeding process the pump stays running and doesn't cycle off and on like everyone else. Is it a pressure thing that makes it cut off and on? Or should I be looking towards replacing the water pump.
+Raymond Sisneros that would be a problem with the pump itself if it’s running a different way vs. than what it should
BMW Fanatic Ok. O'Reillys has the water pump for $415 with a lifetime warranty, where would u buy the water pump?
where the coolant go?
Will this procedure work on all N54’s ? Even if my 2008 535xi (e60) reservoir looks different ? My local Mechanic cannot figure out how to bleed coolant….
Gotta see if this procedure works on my car
Dont u have to have coolant cap off so air can come out during this procedure?
+Andrew Ward Nope, it vents in other ways
Thanks guy I never knew that it helped so much. Did you turn the bleeder screw at all?
Question bro I did a radiator swap and just removed the fmic and the upper and lower hoses and the hose to the trans cooler how much coolant do I need to add from a radiator change.
If I don’t bleed the coolant will the half check engine light come on? Mine came on right after I replaced my reservoir
I have a low coolant light on my vehicle just change water pump and thermostat and reservoir and radiator does that mean idid not bleed the system right ? And I do not have no leaks
An EASY thing made COMPLEX❗️❗️ 🤪🤪🤣🤣
Well this is a bmw ;)
It’s not complicated at all
Hey do I replaced my radiator and the light still on do I have to bleed it again ?
BMW Fanatic
One more Q please? I cannot tell IF the electric water pump is running or not? I did it exacly like you did, 3 times and never heard it at all. Since I did not hear it the first two times it only ran 3-4 minutes. The third time I let it run the full 12 minutes but the level did not change at all
We bought it used in October and of course had NO TROUBLE until the weather started heating up. It heated up yesterday on my wife. I let it cool, filled it up and it overheated again today. So I tried your procedure, hope it works but when there is no sound of the pump running and the level did not change it am UNCERTAIN...
So if I’m doing a complete coolant flush I need to use bleeder screw ?
After 12minutes will the noise completely stop?
nice. next time show every step much slower
Hey man what do think about using Pentosin or Beck Arnley euro coolant.
I had the upper radiator burst and spill the coolant everywhere yesterday on my n52 engine should this be done after I replace the upper radiator hose or would I have to completely unplug the radiator plugs from the bottom to flush any leftover coolant and replace it with new coolant.
WHOAAAAA THAT IOS TOOK ME BACK 😂
So you don’t touch the bleeding screw at all? Also, the the n55 process different than the n54? My car expansion tank doesn’t have the indicator stick…it just has a min/max…I’ve also tried checking if the stick broke off inside.
2011 bmw e92 n55 335i 6spd
hi bro, I just replaced the radiator on my 335i x drive n55 engine and Im wondering how to purge the system to remove the air before starting the car again?
So you do this after replacing the oil filter housing gasket as an example, correct. This will get rid of any air bubbles in the system?
So umm, how do you get the air out ?
Thanks for your video
So the reservoir cap stays closed shut while the pump is bleeding air or it needs to be open ?
Yep
I don't have a battery charger can I use jump start cables connected to another car?
NO
When would you use the bleeder valve method? The bleeder valve located on the coolant tank
I just replaced my expansion tank was so easy but wasn’t sure what steps to open the bleed valve and activate the water pump and if to keep the cap on or not
I keep asking to bleed air
Cap on or losse
No one answered
How doyou do it
Would you please say the years to do this? I got a 2007 335i
Same process, I have an 07 as well.
I am thinking about getting an E46 M3. Are these overall going to be more labor intensive than "standard" production 3 series? Thanks for the vids!
Jordan Kendrick yeah definitely - there are some major things to look out for when buying a e46 M3/maintenance parts that get pricey (SMG pump - auto only)
Thank you
Why do you need a charger
Technically no, if your battery is good your good. Anytime you flashing or anything that needs a good strong battery or somthing to prevent the battery from not doing its job during the process is the main reason why you need a trickle charger
So what if pump don’t start to Run?
Eddie Ellison your water pump could be bad if it doesn’t start.
Ya it’s done, thanks for the response.
wait, so why do we need to bleed the coolant? I don't quite understand.
kevin p trapped air in the system will cause it to overheat/run into cooling issues. Once you replace a coolant related part, you'll lose about half of your coolant. That right there will have some air in the system, which is why this process comes into play 😀
BMW Fanatic and when you get a new water pump huh
kevin p yeppp
Excellent DIY, Thank You!
thanks for the video
Thanks. Good vid.
what is the normal temperature for bmw 535i xdrive 2009
I ask him why he changed the water pump I did the flushing and when the car heats it stays in 214 and the most that to rise is to 219 to 221
+Lemuel Alfaro 220-230 is the normal range
BMW Fanatic thanks for your help so far been maintained from 214.f to 219.f
BMW Fanatic I made a video in you tube, if you can see it, tell me what you think, I'm confused, other people say it's very high, that temperature. I do not want my motor damaged.
Really appreciate your videos.
I have to change my radiator vent hose, so do you recommend bleeding out all of the coolant?
Ralph Lopez Yep! It's always best practice to do so since air could get into the system
He didnt get the question. Yes replace your fluid if it got a fair amount if miles on it. Grab a thing of bmw coolant from BMW it has to be from there. Probably 28 bucks for a jug. Mix it 50/50 with distilled water (yes it has to be distilled) take off the bleeder screw on reservoir tank and fill the reservior till it almost pours out the bleeder screw hole. Re screw in the thing and run his proceedure. You can find the drain plug on the radiator and empty coolant system from there. You will know it worked correctly when you see the level of coolant has dropped down
Do you need to remove the coolant cap off when bleeding the system ?
brian robles nope!
brian robles must keep everything closed up
When should I do this?
Nayan Parmar Whenever you have a coolant leak and fix it or you can do it each season. The each season thing doesn't have to happen, but I do it just because lol
As always, great diy.
To bleed air the cap on or little loose or completely out
Please thank you, anyone please
but why would i go through all this instead just opening the valve that all bmw/mini have?!
Ardalan Shabestari The bleeder screw is only unscrewed when topping off with coolant. It does help a little, but trapped air is still in there, thus this would be the proper procedure to fully eliminate any and all air that would be trapped.
Ok, thank you! 🙂
Ardalan Shabestari 👍🏻
BMW Fanatic but let's say on this side of the pond people drive 4 cylinder diesel cars. And my water pump is not electric. So how would i bleed it correctly? 🤔
BMW Fanatic i have an 2010 e90 320d lci
DO NOT USE PRESTONE OR ANY YELLOW COOLANT!! You want to use a sodium and phosphate free COOLANT, prestone has sodium in it and will corrode aluminum BMW cooling system components.
Ya, BMW coolant
I would not have my little kid around the garage while bleeding coolant or performing any other work with the hood open. Just a little spray of fluid on his eyes and you would regret ever doing the DIY at home.
Hello,
After replacing the 2 famous gaskets at the oil filter house, and replacing the coolant reservoir,,,, Inside the car the left side won't heat, cold air comes out. and at the right side it's warm.... I did this procedure about 4 times.
That's an issue with the climate control not your cooling system...
@@Whosoever141 Well after some research found out that theres a leak in the head gasket (6th cylinder inside) but after the headgasket was changed there was no result.. And yep... probably had to do with the climate control.. But the custommer claims the problem wasnt there before changing the gaskets and reservoir....
As much as what you did is clear - I bought my 335 E93 N54 2008 and it has green fluid. I want to change it to OEM and after watching this I still have no idea how to replace the fluid? Flush or add the new blue? Why even do this? The video doesn’t explain anything about the process that I can see?
This a bleeding procedure! If you want a coolant flush procedure you need to look for that.
I'm confused. some posts say bleed with expansion tank open, and while the bleeding process is running add coolant slowly. while some say have it closed such as yours and then adding after the procedure is completed? does it matter? are they both right?
EL LL keep closed, bleed, then open back up to top off if low
BMW Fanatic thanks for the response. just confirming.. i loosen bleed valve, pour coolant mix until bubbles come out. .then shut the cap and run the bleed procedure? do i tighten the bleed screw? how full do u fill the reservoir? just to optimal amount? some posts say fill to the filler neck, won't this be too much? ?
Hi Mr.Fanatic, I’m replacing the radiator vent hose that runs over the radiator from the expansion tank. My question is should I replace the hose, then add the coolant and do this process? Or should I bleed it before adding the coolant?
+Clem Rolle Replace that expansion hose and then bleed
BMW Fanatic should I remove all coolant from the radiator also? Or just top off
Is it normal when my car is running and I open the resivour cap it's shooting water out like it's bleeding itself but it's shooting out stronger than a bleed?
Andres Medero you would need to keep it closed
BMW Fanatic it was closed the whole time. Something else might of happened. Yesterday my cooling fan broke and my radiator cracked. And I installed a universal fan. And tested it today and my car seemed to be over heating and the whole time the car was running it was shooting water into the resivour is that normal??
Andres Medero I mean when it's pumping coolant it's going to be flowing pretty good within the reservoir
Thank you betty much
Im working on my kid BMW and thanks to your video i was able to bleed after i had to remove the oil cooler to replaced the gasket on the oil housing.
Just finished that today. What a pain in the arsche
If I'm doing this for the first time , do I just do exactly what u did or do I have to loosing the bleed screw on the coolant tank??
nigel egan Just to do exactly what I did here
nigel egan Bleed screw is only needed if you're adding in pretty much a full top off of coolant, but the bleed procedure will take take of that. Check levels after you're done and proceed if you need to add more in
BMW Fanatic ..👍👍👍
@@BMWFanatic so if I’m doing a complete coolant flush you recommend using bleeder screw method ?
