*Great auger! **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s blades came very sharp and when attached to the drill adapter, this auger chews through 18" of ice like butter!*

I have a drill that is 20V, 0-350 and 0-1500 RPM, and 1.3 amps. Returning it today and getting a more powerful drill for sure!!

Got my lite flite today. Couldn't find the octane, so I ended up getting the Milwaukee. I did notice that my auger didn't have that plastic sleeve on the chuck attachment. Probably not a big deal. Keep up with the great videos. If I'm up that way this winter maybe I will see you on the ice.
My guess is. Yours didn’t need the sleeve. Mine was a replacement. Guessing they fixed the units. Good luck!!
You have the exact same auger set up I use I'm having a problem right now were it starts the hope but then the auger stops spinning and only the drill spins

I have a dcd 777 DeWalt 20 volt drill driver with a 1.3 ah battery kicking around. I tried it on my 6 inch nils ice auger for fun but it cuts out during the drilling of an 8 inch hole but it do start again and cut through. Now saying that if I upgrade the battery say to a 5ah battery will my drill cut out while drilling?
Honestly, Dewalts are the hardest drills to recommend for an ice auger. They don’t list their torque rating in in-lbs like all the others do. They use a UWO rating, which is a pain in the ass to convert to in lbs. A very basic conversion is your drill is in the 500 in lb torque rating. Quite a bit smaller than what’s recommended! 750 is the minimum. Upgrading to a 5 ah battery may help a little. But I think your drill is on the small side!

Hi, I'm new to using an E drill setup and just got back today from the first time using my new rig and it didn't seem quite right.
I have an 8" Nordic Legend E drill setup with integrated side handle which I mated to a Milwaukee M18 Fuel hammer drill - 18V with a 5mah battery. As you suggested I set it on #1 speed and drill setting. The ice was only 12" thick and I was surprised by the auger's lack of torque. If I didn't vigorously pump the unit and keep the RPM's at top end on the #1 setting the drill would just stop. I was able to drill 12 holes which used half my battery power (battery has a charge indicator).
Does this sound right to you? I thought with this setup I could pretty much push down on it and drill and maybe pump it a couple of times. Thanks

Definitely doesn’t sound right, especially with the Milwaukee Fuel. I’ve never used the E Drill, but a company sent me the Vevor 8” auger, seems to be similarly priced, and strikingly close build wise. It didn’t compare to my Strikemaster Lite Flite, but cut decent for the price. Could be the cheaper auger, but is hard to say. A little more detail, I'm a casual ice fisherman and only get out 6-7 times a year and only need to drill 12-15 holes a trip for me and my kids. With that in mind I bought a pack of 2 Worthmah brand 18v, 5 mah (aftermarket batteries) and charger from Amazon to power my Milwaukee Fuel drill. The batteries were fully charged before I went out yesterday. Once I got the pumping technique down I drilled 11 holes OK in about 12" of ice and used up half a 5 mah battery. There were times when the drill just stopped for a few seconds, again, it seemed like there was a lack or torque. If I pumped the auger and kept the rpm's up if did OK. There were times when the drill just stopped cold and would operate only after pausing for a few seconds... Have you experienced this? could it be the aftermarket batteries? Thanks

@@gregorybeane4609 I haven’t seen that performance with the fuel. I’m guessing it’s the batteries. The fuel should run that auger better than what your describing. I’ve seen the fuel run just about every auger on the market, including old metal gas auger bits.
I have the new replacement drill for the octane. Not quite as big for torque. I was wondering if you would still run a 8in lite flite or drop down to a 6in?
Depends on which drill. If its the 750 in lb, I’d image you could still run the 8” LF.
Would a m18 milwaukee 550 lbs with a 5mah battery , work with a 6inch light weight k-drill auger?
I’m thinking not. The drill is likely too small, and the kdrill is usually harder on the drills.

Does the auger walk on you? Heard some people weld a center between the blades so it won’t walk.
My LF has a center point to keep it from walking. The original Pistol bit didn’t and had a problem with walking. The second gen has a center point. The standard hand Augers used on a drill will walk around as most of them don’t have a center point!
I got a 24v kobolt just got a adapter..gotta rig it a bit but the drill has the handle and it's brushless.. might get a bigger battery.

That is a good bonus!! The weight reduction, elimination of gas, oil, stalling, flooding, no starts is hard to beat!!
If my old gas dinosaur would finally die , I would go the route you have.....Hmmmm maybe if I forget to mix oil with my gas I can speed that along.

What made you choose the Rigid over the Milwaukee M18 out of curiosity?
The Octane has 1300 in lb of torque, 100 more than the M18. I got the Octane deal when they first came out. $200 for the Drill, 9ah battery, and charger, lifetime warranty. Just about $100 cheaper than the M18 with 2 5 ah batteries. Honestly, either will drill a hole. My Octane has been a tank, no issued over 2 years with heavy use.

Agreed! I got so much s**t when I got this drill. Guys were saying Ridgids are throw away drills, saying I wouldn’t get a season with it. 2 seasons of heavy use, still going strong!!

I can't seem to find any reviews on the Kobalt 24v Max XTR and pistol bit augers. Any thoughts on it? Benchmarked it looks extremely competitive on the videos I could find, but those were running wood drill bits and construction related applications.
I have no experience with the drill, and haven’t seen any forum talk on the drill either. Looking at the specs, it looks like it meets the requirements. Has a brushless motor, 1200 in lbs of torque, a 1/2 chuck, and a side handle. Saw a kit on Lowe’s for $150, on sale from $200. Had the drill, charge and 4 amp battery. 5amp of higher is recommended, but I’m sure the 4 would work fine. They sell a separate 6amp. That’s the cheapest I’ve seen any drill with over 800 in lbs of torque. About 1/2 of what a Milwaukee or Ridgid is running now.
@@precisionanglingYT All of the things you pointed out caught my eye. I am a die hard dewalt fan from my days in the trades, but for ice fishing fun it looks pretty compelling. I think I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. The M18 had been at the top of my list, but for half the price it is hard to pass up.

I just bought the same Kobalt as well, $129 on sales at Lowes. I will bring up north (MN) in a couple weeks and put it to a test. I have the Eskimo 8" pistol. Do you know what clutch position you normally use? highest or lowest. I am guessing highest, but just want to make sure. Thanks and great info on your video!
tried this. all it did was smoke my drill. maybe a sharper bit???
Many factors possible…underpowered drill and metal auger bit designed for a gas auger are usually the cause.

They don’t make this exact model any more. They make a newer one with 1250 in lbs of torque. I believe they name it “high torque.” The flex drill from lowes looks, and sounds awesome. 1400 in lbs. drill, battery and charger for $180. The Milwaukee fuel is still an awesome choice, but their $300 ish.
