I didn't really have a traditional apprenticeship so what I worked on for pretty much 2 years was lettering and lining, then moved into B&G shading. I've ALWAYS had a hard time with color and hated packing yellows, pinks, oranges...you know...anyway this has helped me immensely! I was never taught the simple movement of using your elbow instead of your wrist. I eventually after getting a saturated color piece by someone that's been tattooing for 25 years, asked him a bunch of questions and he did teach me a lot and that gave me more confidence. But to find your "own way" to color pack using these techniques...thank you so much for putting out this video. I wish I would have come across this 5 years ago!
I genuinely couldn’t have gotten this far in my apprenticeship without your tips! You’ve helped me elevate my tattooing in such a short amount of time, thank you for making these!
I needed this video! My black packing hasn’t been coming out as Saturated and bold as I like it, takes me a quite a few passes. I immediately seen my fault. Good looking out! Jay from Los Angeles
Same for me bro, needed this video. In process of doing a full color sleeve and needed to do more research on color packing. My black and gray tattooing is just fine but wanted to branch out to do more color.
Damn dude every time I’m trying to figure out my issues and problems in my apprenticeship, your videos come in right on time to help me. whether if it’s a new upload or a recommended video, you’re always there to help (LOL it’s kinda spooky too, almost like ur reading my mind)
Yo.my brother...I'm a prison made tattoo artist..but I'm not.a.shop trained professional. You are my new mentor...I am your apprentice...I'm opening my.own shop within one year from this day...and you will be the reason I feel confident enough to open. Don't get me wrong, I can't tattoo. I've been doing it.in prison.for.6.years and on the street for 3...but I've never uad a professional teacher, you're it!!!! Thank.you!!!
Oh wow, thank you for taking the time to write this awesome comment! I’m glad the channel has helped you out. This was the main reason I stated the channel in the first place. I wish you all the luck in the world with your journey! Always look forwards and never back! 🌎
I started tattoing over twenty years ago with a prison made machine and guitar string for a needle sharpened on a concrete cell floor of course it had no voltage control either.. now that ive dived head first with an actual machine and a live perspn for me to get practice on again your videos are gold for me.thank you
I just Clicked on the video and the first thing i noticed is your Amazing outgoing energy!! makes me want to be your friend!! I LOVE ITT❤!! Keep Being great!!🎉
So glad I found this video. Guy I went to didn't color pack properly and now I have to go get it all done over. I had never heard of this before until I went for a second opinion.
It's so funny to me because I've learned these things, but I notice I go back to the bad technique sometimes because I still struggle with the idea of causing pain. I guess it's just something I'll have to get over, but I'm hesitant to stretch the skin if my fingers are pulling on areas I've already tattooed (because I know it'll be irritating), and I struggle to go slow and stay in the sameish area for awhile because I feel like I'm hurting them, especially if I see the blood. I think I just have to accept that my clients signed up for this, and it's okay 😅
Awesome tips, and I like the way you portray your content . Thanks this has given me far more confidence in my practice and although fake skin performs differently than real skin, the same applies for colour saturation. I found a vast improvement immediately. Happy days 😊
I need a black and grey soft shading video. I feel like I never can get it smooth enough and I want to do portraits. I would love if you could demonstrate the same way with a portrait or flower even, in black and grey. I feel like my black and grey can be choppy or scratchy, I get nervous about overworking the skin and maybe am too timid
I have a grasshopper green in that same brand. Must be cloned however I spent $65 usd for that one bottle 32oz. I got 350ml of dynamic black for 25 but I don’t really get to use color often so I stick to the tiny multicolored bottles so I don’t have to stress color mixing or grey Washing
thank you very much my friend for your contribution, altruism and social intelligence, what you are doing, the information you share and the humble, humane and unpretentious way in which you do it effectively changes lives...
I've always used Dynamic. Love the back and the colors are bold and bright! I Def needed this on my color packing. My line work is fantastic but my color packing is not that great and I'm having to touch up clients more often.
Hi Jono! As usual really detailed video and really well explained🙏. There is something else to be added - fast running machine makes vacuum into the tip of the cartridge and prevent the good flow of the Ink. I've seen many artists running their machines quick and then having always troubles with time, quality and results.
Thank you $o much, Jono. This video finally $love my problem. I didn’t pack colour with hard mode, and that’s y the colour always look soft. Really appreciate for your sharing. 🙇🏻♂️
Can you do a video on how to work with different parts of the body since they have different thicknesses/sensitivity and maybe one to learn to deal with stretch marks?
I love your videos. You give us substantial and very solid advice on every topic an apprentice can imagine. I must admit, I skip the intro and the outro as you are too intense for me :))) but I still love your work, and thank you for your hard work so much!!!
If u make the mistake of over working to where your skin isn't taking the ink and it gets to be counter productive like you talk about will your skin heal and I eventually be able to get my skin to take the ink ?
Thanks!
Thank you so much! Shout out for the Super Thanks! You’ll be mentioned in the next video upload!
YOUR ADVICE IN THIS VIDEO HAS CHANGED SO MANY PEOPLE'S LIVES DUDE. I DONT THINK YOU REALLY REALIZE WHAT YOUVE JUST DONE HERE FOR THE TATTOO COMMUNITY.
Thank you I really appreciate that 😀

And to dilute it with water makes so much sense too
Best explanation I've seen on UA-cam. I can't wait to try this out.

I use a pen machine....when you say adjust it so that it has a hard hit, would I apply more pressure or just up the voltage?
Yes, I need to know this too
He’s talking about the machine stroke. Some pens have an adjustable stroke like the Axys Valhalla.
Ha, using the wrist.... I see what you did there. Great video, I'm learning a lot from your vids, thanks.

Which needle is good for colour packing,?
Depends on the size of the tattoo you are coloring. I use 17rm mostly for small 1 to 2 inch sized pieces.
