    I lived in a step van I converted in the '70s for 2+ years, it was orginally a reefer unit, so it already had insulated double walls! Yours is the first step van I've seen with hinging entry doors, probably seal up tighter but cruising doors slid open in the summer sure was fun! The sliding door between the cab and the home is the best thing about step vans, and I'd still take a step van over any bus or box truck.

      The drivers side is a sliding door so I often enjoy driving with that one open!

    I've been looking for inspiration outside of the dominant #vanlife mods out there and you've nailed it. I'm a newb to conversions but gritty and a nomad at heart. This nest you've built is totally on par for what I would love to do. Very baba yaga/ howl's moving castle. Killer job❤

    I noticed you have some onions on your kitchen counter. Could you tell us the story of the onions? Thanks … love the van!

    • @Laffexplore
      @Laffexplore  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks! And why yes I can!! The story of onions in my van is that when I was first learning to really cook, we had a family friend who was a chef, she told me one that if you ever don’t know what to cook just start sautéing onions, because so many good things can be made from there and the smell of them will start to inspire you!! So I always have onions on hand! In fact I think for about 10 years after that almost every meal I cooked started with sautéing onions because of her advice, now I have a few other ways that I start dinner but sautéed onions are still involved in probably at least 50% of what I cook!!

    Hey loved the video, i'm deciding between 14 and 16ft. I'm curious if you think you would feel the difference when trying to park. I know you are doing a lot of stealth parking so your perspective would mean a lot.

    • @Laffexplore
      @Laffexplore  Рік тому +1

      I originally thought I wanted the 14ft box, but this was the one I ended up finding, and I don’t regret having that extra space, I think they were very few times when two extra feet would actually have made a difference parking, and I love how much space I have inside it definitely felt like it free things up to not have to fit as perfectly. I mean it’s a nice big canvas either way, I think you’ll probably be happy with either, if I was looking for a new truck I think I would be more focused on the condition of the engine and the mechanics then the length. I really do love how much space I have!!

    how is your stepvan travling on the interstates. Is it loud, what's your speed, what your mileage MPG?

    • @Laffexplore
      @Laffexplore  Рік тому

      I get about 11 mpg diesel. It’s definitely a loud rattly ride, I’m trying to see if there’s some things I can do to mitigate that. There’s a governor on the truck that only allows me to go 68 miles an hour, but I’m honestly most the time I wouldn’t want to go faster than that anyways in this rig.

    How do you handle condensate on the inside when using it in cooler weather?

    • @Laffexplore
      @Laffexplore  Рік тому +1

      I spend most of my time in warmer climates, I do occasionally have trips or days when I’m in cooler climates, but for the most part I don’t feel like I’ve had to worry about that too much. The van is well insulated, so I think that definitely helps, I’ve got an inch and a half poly iso insulation all the way around. Anytime I’m cooking and have some thing that’s going to create a lot of steam I make sure I turn my maxxair fan on.
