Appreciate how succinct the video is! Excellent info!

Nice explanation, thanks! I am currently looking for a suppresor for my MR308 and was a bit dumbfounded when I saw a noise reduction of only 18-22dB and was questioning, if that was even worth it, regarding hearing protection. Now I know it's a trade off and understand why the noise reduction is so low compared to the suppresor I have on my hunting rifle.

The purpose of a rifle is to put bullets onto targets.
The purpose of a suppressor is to reduce the report of a shot.
Which makes more sense? To sacrifice suppression to accommodate cycling, or to tune the rifle to accommodate suppression?
If you can’t tune the rifle then a “flow through” design may make sense. With the proper consideration to design and tuning though, you will come out better with a more traditional design that prioritizes suppression over compromising for cycling sake.

For the military, tuning is not an option. Have you met your average army grunt? They can barely tie their shoes.

The tuning should go on at the factory.
There is a formula for getting suppressors to work optimally with auto rifles. Balancing gas port diameter, gas system length, dwell time, gas integrity, and friction coefficient of the system can all be accomplished at the drawing board and executed on the machine floor.
Producing a rifle that reliably works in either configuration in all conditions (assuming consistent ammo) without having to fiddle with gas settings is possible and should be the standard.

Mcx virtus with supressor is ridiculous as far as being gassy, I grunt thru it tho!! I need that new sig can!

@@majorian4897 also something to note is that the "back pressure" myth is actually the effect of the can pretending to be an extended barrel which effects cyclic rate. You don't need the fancy box that sig tested to know if your cyclic rate is up 20-50% with a traditional can you have effectively extended your dwell time on a di system. Hux claims 5% faster cycling which would mean 95% of any gas put back in your face is mitigated compared to no can. It's easier on your rig and you shouldn't have to change gas settings or buffers. Just a side note you need a Ruger SFAR, or a bren 2 (piston) in your life.

@@majorian4897 slx 70-80%, slh 50% reduction. Hux is probably somewhere near 90+ if you believe the marketing wank. The flash reduction is better on the new hux imho. Titanium isn't as good as flash reduction but the weight is better.
