  • Church of Ireland building. It was commissioned in 1810 by the board of first fruits which had a long standing building programme for the protestant community. It was built on the site of a former medieval church and so the graveyard consists of of mixed internments. The Church, a single cell Gothic-style structure may have originally had a spire on top of the tower but it along with the roof are now gone. The church in use up until 1947 has now fallen into ruin.

Post-nominal letters are letters placed after the name of a person to indicate that the individual holds a position, office, or honour.
An individual may use several different sets of post-nominal letters. Honours are listed first in descending order of precedence, followed by degrees and memberships of learned societies in ascending order.
Some obsolete positions are not listed unless recipients who continue to use the post-nominals even after the order becomes obsolete are still living. seems to be educational Sue xxx. clever man.

This is a special place. I have found it twice while exploring , once alone and once with my musician wife. One special smaller stone towards the road side, set on an angle, had an amazing inscription...It told how the husband and wife, were local musicians their whole life. Then asked "Did you get what you wanted from life" then answered " Yes, I was loved"...I have a picture of that one. Sounds like they knew what was really important...As always, nice job...

I've been on a Sue and Irish Eye's binge watch over the past few days. I keep thinking of Ireland, (being of Irish, Scottish and English with a sprinkle of Cherokee and Shawnee lineage) Ireland most certainly has a special place in I and my spouse's hearts. Well, I started thinking back to my grandmother once burning peat or turf from Ireland that her sister gave her as incense after a funeral and it got thinking about that. I'm not sure if that is an actual "Irish thing" or one that American's started to recall the land of their ancestors but I went looking and I actually found some for sale. It has been ordered and the next time I sit down to watch I'll be burning Irish turf from Co. Offaly whilst listing to your voices. I can't wait! I thank you for all you do and all of your hard work. I also thank you for helping me recall my dear old grandmother who has been gone for 23yrs now. Be blessed!

Hi Sue! I admire your ability to keep the camera steady regardless of how uneven the ground is. I have a hard enough time keeping it still when I'm standing on concrete. I think that recessed area at the rear of the church may have led to a remaining portion of the original building. By going into that crypt you showed your nerves to be as steady as your camera technique even though I'm sure that if there was anything in there it's long since been removed. 🇦🇺🇮🇪

What a difference a lawnmower makes to this place..The large casket in the church certainly had some age as well as the one with the Skull and crossbones on.As that is a common symbol for poison not just for pirates. It makes you wonder if the poor woman was either poisonous ,possibly her body was toxic by the cause of death ,or she could have been highly contagious. It’s so rare to see that sign in a graveyard. It was put on the stone probably as a warning .Don’t forget grave robbers were around then.Very interesting non the less. The unused old mausoleum ..You was very brave going in there. Not many would ..Well done.I don’t think the previous inhabitants would have worried about the cold or the about how closed in it felt…But brave You.There are some really lovely headstones in this Churchyard .I am pleased you went back and we got a better look..Thank you for all the great adventures..Love n Light 🥰

That's a lovely old graveyard but so sad to see the empty crypt. It reminds me of a visit over 30 years ago to St. Flannan's cathedral in Killaloe on the shores of Lough Derg. While exploring the churchyard I came upon an crypt which had been broken open and bones scattered in the grass outside it. There were also a few empty beer bottles lying there. I reported it to one of the clergy but to this day it still outrages me to think that some people would desecrate the graves of people who were once alive and loved.

Every time I visit the resting places of family and friends in Deansgrange cemetery here in Dublin, I always bring gardening tools to tidy a couple of other graves that seem to have been forgotten over the years. @@SerenitySueGraveyards I'll try and look in tonight as I'm only up the road in Dublin lol. During the summer a woman rang in to Liveline about the disgraceful state of some Dublin graveyards due to prolific growth of a weed called Mare's Tail absolutely swamping graves and no sign of the local authorities doing anything to suppress it. One caller mentioned that the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council had plans to set up a society of friends of Deansgrange cemetery whereby people could volunteer to take care of graves. It's a brilliant idea but of course to date nothing has happened. I'd happily volunteer. By the way, I was led to your UA-cam channel from a comment you made on the marvellous Faces of the Forgotten channel. Yours is equally fascinating especially as it's about our own past. That open, empty crypt was a wee bit scary! It seemed you had someone with you, or it looked that way. I held my breath until you got out of there. I wouldn't be able to stay very long there. Many interesting tomb stones. You could almost publish a book with all the interesting and unusual tombstones you have seen! Bet it would be a best seller. (Don't you just love people who come up with all the wonderful ideas that would mean more work.)LOL

Grange house? There’s an 18th century manor house called Grange manor in Kilkenny. Was that the former home of the occupant of that one grave? I often google interesting stones and sometimes find old obituaries that list their residence. Driving by those old homes and knowing who lived there is so neat. Your videos are great! I’m hooked! I love exploring Irish cemeteries vicariously through you!

One thing I thought of when you said headache and youbfelt foggy was the possibility of gases. Sometimes gases seep from the ground and get trapped inside a structure. There is really no way for the air to ventilate in there.
I am glad you didn't stay and got out of there when you did. But I so admire your determination. I also was very curious about what it was like inside.

Cheers Ben, I was grand a minute or so after getting out, very strange feeling I don't think I'm claustrophobic but maybe that, air seemed grand in there but who knows ❤

Thank you Sue for going into the crypt and showing us all. I know you don't believe, but I believe that the souls that were put to rest in there are trying to protect it hence your headache

Oh I believe in paranormal stuff I've had my own experiences I just at the time didn't feel like it was paranormal more claustrophobic or lack of air, maybe it was, I can't describe the feeling hot yet inside was cold, like pins and needles in my head and just feeling yuk and the headache too, very strange alright

Oh my Sue. Please don’t go into anymore of these underground crypts. It is so dangerous. I was a nurse for a company where our workers often had to go below ground or otherwise confined spaces. They were required to take incredible precautions. You just don’t ever know. I enjoy your channel very much. Just want you to be safe. ♥️☘️

Perhaps there was bad air inside that crypt. There is a mausoleum at Mountshannon House that originally served as a dairy cooling building. It may be worth checking out.

Beautiful old graveyard. It looks like someone, or a group of people are trying to keep it up. It would be nice
if those headstones could be carefully, properly cleaned and straightened. That crypt you went
into, was interesting. It looks like whatever remains were in it were
removed long ago, which may be why it has not been sealed up. I see someone had a party in it, probably some local kids. Thank you very much for another great video Sue.
    Be careful out there.
P.S. Or am I mistaken, and there
    were remains in that crypt?

  • @larrycurts710
    @larrycurts710 Рік тому

yes, you’d never catch me in a crypt such as that. Since you did give us a great view of the inside and we saw no coffins, now I’m just guessing that the wall down the centre as well as the two ledges left and right suggests that the coffins were laid crossways to the door, No coffins suggests that if anyone was interred there, they were moved somewhere else, if anyone was there. I’m guessing not, as there is no evidence of some sort of a barricade ( metal door or barred gate ) in the entrance.
