    Patrick it was so lovely 2 hear from u last week. Remember to take those calming breaths. Everything will fall into place. Hubby & I moved twice in 3 years. Can u imagine. We survived it! Think wonderful rural France 🇫🇷 the next project. I watch all the Chateau vloggers. cant wait 2 see u both (& the lovely pooches) all settled in France. With the courtyard u will have to install a fountain ⛲ like Stephanie's. Don't tell Stuart yet.
    Have great week. I have a brother called Patrick. Fondest. Victoria 👱‍♀️

      Hello darling Victoria. I forget the deep breathing at times. It is amazing how exhausting moving becomes when one has more stuff…..
      We watch almost all other Château vlogs like you. Some we love, some are not as informative. Something for everyone and that’s perfect. We can’t wait to see the pooches settle and explore the new property in France. I agree with the need of a fountain in the front courtyard. Now, Stuart mentioned that fountains ⛲️ idea when we were in Versailles. He wants one. 🥰🥰🥰. Best to you and your hubby and thank you for watching.. 💕💖💕

    Ahh you boys are always a breath of fresh air! Always funny. The house tour was so interesting, I love all the unique pieces you have. I am sure many will make there way to your new home. Hey Cliff. How is life in Australia? Hopefully busy but not stressful. Heard from the notarize and one of the owners of the chateau. Moving at the glacial pace of French bureaucracy.
      Thank you for the comment on texture and color. We have to see, how to incorporate that in France without making the chateau look like the living room from La Cage aux Flolles…..
      we have multiple showings in the next days. Fingers crossed. Hugs my friend and please keep us posted on how you are doing. 💖🥰💖

      @@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 As I said, always a breath of fresh air. You guys are far to stylish to create a gosh environment like La cage lol...
      Hmm French & English bureaucracy! I would say there in nothing else like it on earth!
      I had to register for my National Insurance Number in the UK! Oh my! I was bought to Australia at 12 years old, so never worked in the UK! The NIN is required for tax ect. Here it is called a Tax File Number. It took weeks! They finally realized I did not have one as it is issued when you turn 16 years old! They had all my information and they could not see the problem. they approached IT as my seeking a lost NIN! Where in fact I was seeking to be issued one! Not fitting into the pigeon hole in the UK is a nightmarish ordeal.
      I wont bore you with the horrific ordeal of rushing back to the UK for my brothers funeral, he passed suddenly! I was on an expired passport! I have never let my passport expire before. My "X" husband bless his heart dealt with everything, I am so lucky to still have this relationship. But it was a nightmare the UK end can you believe... I needed an emergency replacement and it cost nearly 1000 pound! Extortion and bureaucracy at its finest! Both government bodies actually ask on line for feedback!! I gave my feed back!! I wont repeat it lol.
      Gee here I go again with a long one lol. Lets call this Part 1#

    • @cliffhorman6846
      @cliffhorman6846 2 роки тому +2

      Part 2#... again... Lost the first draft dam it lol.
      OK. in short. Left the job as they failed their yearly government accreditation. This basically means they where verging on criminal conduct. I could not allow myself to become embroiled with this company as I could risk losing my own license as well which I had worked hard to gain. I did go into detail in lost draft. But this is the bottom line.
      I am not nursing or managing a mental health team at the moment. I may do so in future. It is an awful industry and I see why I did leave it. One day I will explain face to face the reality of it.. you will probably wet yourself laughing at my delivery, but also see its heart breaking for one that wants to do the right thing and make a difference.
      I am have done some contracted chef work of late with my twin (yes I am the dominant one, and no, hes straight lol). And also started a 5 week cooking course where I teach a small group privately. I always enjoy this. Often its people that cant cook at all! I usually start with teaching them to shop and how to identify fresh produce and be confident doing so. So market trips ect.
      My twin and I have also been approached to take on a local restaurant that a former customer of mine and her husband wish to buy. I am very flattered and also I would enjoy the challenge. We have already done the mystery shopper visit followed by a thorough inspection. It would require long term commitment however.
      As you know I wish to travel, and the only long term I would enjoy is working with people like yourselves. That I would totally commit to. I would love it and feel very excited, content and challenged.
      But anyway, as I said this would require a big long term commitment. I believe even if I/we did not take it on we could certainly screen & employ new staff and assist with any training and settle the venue. So a consultancy is not out of the question. And menu design and budget. So still exciting to me.
      my home also is somewhat of a business as I do have borders. I had a guest house about 10 years a go and I run this basically exactly the same way really.
      I come from a big family, so I am familiar with tolerance and patience. My background is primarily hospitality, so I am rather a natural at doing this. It is different when business is conducted in your own home I agree. But for the most part it works well & I enjoy it.
      At this time i am in a turn around stage, meaning I have a new influx of borders. I use this time between borders to deal with the house and gardens and do a deep clean, maintenance, painting and any gardening. It keeps it all fresh. So I am keeping myself busy. There is always much to do here in Autumn to settle things before winter as well.
      I usually have 4 people here which the house more then copes with. It does allow me to save a few thousand a month. A sort of money for noting situation. Its often more if I do the cooking ect.. you guys would know how it would work adding extra services.
      Anyway, I have waffled to much again...sorry. But I have been Missing in action so to speak.
      You guys make me smile and laugh. You enthusiasm is also contagious.
      Speak soon, and I wish you a speedy sale. I am certain such a unique place wont be hanging around long.
      😘😘

      @@cliffhorman6846 I have to admit that when I started to be out and about at the age of 15, pretty, skinny and naive (nothing bad or inappropriate ever happened to me. @@cliffhorman6846 that sounds like a complete nightmare NIN and expired passport……. Good grief. German public servants as well as the ones here or in South Africa seem to be a genetic breed for this kind of job. Just a theory…. 🤔 1000 quid is ridiculous, especially for a death in the family. Hey guys! Sorry to mostly lurk during the premiere, but I couldn’t arrange a work break for that time. I’ve just watched fully though, and as always, love what you do. It still surprises me that you are going from mid-century American to 17th century French, but since the later is much more in my own taste, I’ll just say “Welcome to the party!” All the reno work you’ve shown from this and the Chicago townhouse tell us you’ll do a beautiful job of the chateau, and I think you’ll enjoy going down the rabbit holes of history as you do. Thanks for taking the time to do this while you are busy showing and selling! Good luck! ❤️🍀❤️

      Hello dear Doug. Work come first! Not fun but true. 😳 💖. I grew up with a gorgeous renaissance chateau not far away. Visiting sites all over Europe as a kid. Lucky me. Stuart as well deep into history has this passion. The 17th to the early 19th century are amazingly rich. Fabrics, cloth, woods and foods for that matter. We have spent so much time doing research already and it is amazing. There will be plenty of fabrics we cannot afford unless we win the lottery. But we will try. Same goes for some of the wallpapers. However, we worked through very hard times here and made it work. Cannot wait and as you know, we enjoy your input. 🥰💕🥰

    Your home is absolutely beautiful and it is decorated perfectly. I have always thought that the early mid-century homes were built for entertaining, but arranged to fit the needs of a family. If I were not so much into big and old worldly, this house would be perfect for anyone who views it as I do...

      Thank you very much Frank. Such high praise indeed! I agree, this was a clearly in the built for entertainment category. And we had plenty of parties when we moved. Well, none in the last 2 years. 😳🤣😳. We had 70 people to our housewarming party and it didn’t feel crowded. As you said, it still is a home, unlike some lofts that just feel cold.

    Morning Patrick and Stuart, this really is a lovely home. Extremely tidy, bright and airy. Would love to see the dogs, alas, a time and place for all in life. The Jeep sounds like it's still almost brand new, is it not worthwhile to take with. We pay so much for our goods and then unfortunately comes a time of giving it up. It is actually very sad. Take care, kind regards.

The Jeep is almost like new and here Stuart will basically get what he paid for the car when he bought it. It’s not what we need in France but we both had a Jeep and we can move on and find a new way of transport. 🥰💖🥰. Hugs and thank you so much. 💖💕💖

You two have blended all my favorite parts of different decor into this home! One side is bedrooms other side is living the middle is likely kitchen! Luv the 3 seasons or sun room!

You have probably decided not to go into details about your relationship ( though I'm sure I'm not on my own in wanting to know more about your personal lives where you met. 😂🤣😂. Great comment. Thank you. Yes, we need a ton of armoires. We built the huge closet in the master and one in the master hallway. And filled them all….. 😂. So spot in there. Although we will loose all the clothes for temperatures below 35 degrees centigrade. Now, the fee for cleaning. About 3.5 hours of our own time. My granny cleaned houses and tough me. We both grew up with hard working families. What we can do ourselves, we do. Hugs. 💖💖💖

    Your home is simply gorgeous! The only thing I can think of that may help sell the house quicker is something I would ask the realtor about - take the beautiful art down to a minimum. Here is why.....you want folks to be able to envision it as their own and right now it is clearly yours. Making the walls a blank slate, so to speak, will allow potential buyers to imagine easier. The more "neutral" the better. Then they can focus on the amazing colors and features of the home. The art is so pretty it us almost a distraction. Ask how the realtor would stage the home if they were to do it themselves. The fact you are more minimalistic in accents like vases and flowers is perfect. As an art lover, I cringe making the suggestion but I also appreciate folks need to be able to envision it as their own as easily as possible, attention spans being what they are. I am surprised you haven't had a bidding war yet it is such an amazing home. Again, talk to your realtor and see what they suggest and don't take their suggestions personally, they just know what makes homes easier to walk into and "picture" it as their own. Cannot wait to hear it has sold and you are on your way home to France! Bonne chance!

      Thank you, Steph. Before the photos and the first showing, we did ask the realtor about removing or minimizing the artwork since I thought it was something we might need to do. The realtor walked around and he said not to do it, and as a long time successful realtor, I trust that he is more familiar with the market in this area. Thank you for your feedback! 🥰

    Gentlemen, gorgeous house! Had I the urge to move to the US (which I absolutely do not) I would have bought it from you!!! Question though: are you taking all your furniture with you? As for lighting, mind you our electrics work on a totally different voltage and wattage than US. The chandelier in the living will do very well in the château!!

      Hi Robert. We love our house. It was a disaster when we bought it. And we are ready to move on. The chandelier was a lucky buy. A lady who’s parents came here from Hungary in the 1920s brought it with them. It came from their country house. It will likely hang in the dining room. We will take some furniture and lamps are easy to retire. Unfortunately all our kitchen helpers, like our Kitchen Aid mixers will stay here. Thanks. Be safe. 👍🏻🍾👍🏻

      I've transformed my kitchen into a "Château" kitchen, utilizing all the out of style Tuscan wine themes of wrought iron pieces gleamed from Goodwill stores.
      Dark blue cabinets don't show coffee or tomato sauce drips. My walls are yellow.
      The only thing missing is a cavernous aga / fireplace, and copper collection on the upper walls, lol.

Love you two🥂

    • @JourneytotheChateau

      Thank you, Janet. ❤️ We really do not have one style that we love more than the other. We both just enjoy to adapt the decor style for the architecture where we live. I had an Victorian era American home from 1900, and I bought furnishings and decorated for that style. Together we started with a contemporary home in the city of Chicago, and we designed and decorated for that, then we did the same with this mid-century modern. Now we are just moving on. But yes, we do like things "neat as a pin". 😂

    • @patrickjourneytothechateau8243
      @patrickjourneytothechateau8243 2 роки тому +1

      Hi Lori. No worries. In our previous vlogs we are talking about being true to the building we renovate. We did contemporary in our Chicago home. Stuart renovated victorian houses and I did arts and crafts. One should always stay with the style. There are chateaux that have had their roof collapse, so there was nothing left. Our chateau is from 1640 and we will keep a part like that and of course the style of Napoleon I. That’s when the current family bought the chateau, around 1810 a d a lot of the furniture is from that period. Hope this helps. 💖💕💖

  • @mamabearlovesbts6087

    It always amazes me how some people feel they can give their opinion on how to “not make it to modern”, when it comes to your Gites (spelling?). They can be a mixture of old and new. Your idea for the “dairy barn” turning it into a Gite, for a large family or group is such an excellent idea and being able to close off the upstairs for a smaller group. Yes, these are all the beginning stages and things can change, but isn’t it wonderful you have the option to do so? I do have a question. Are the laws as strict as they are here in the States? Such as electrical work, plumbing, turning buildings into Gites, etc? Now, moving on to your next vlog. 🙂

    • @JourneytotheChateau
      @JourneytotheChateau  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! No, the French laws are not as strict as in the US for all that you mentioned. Many more people do their own work on their utilities in France, and french manufacturers actually supply more modern quick and easy connections for plumbing and electrical. Thank you for watching!
