Hey Dave, this video has been on my mind as we had a similar set up to your set up (2x co-branded BoA cash rewards cards, BoA Premium Rewards, Amazon Prime, and Uber). Ultimately, the X1 didn't seem to make sense for us at 3x, in our setup and given the redemption options, compared to getting cash at 2.625% or more. If I could get permanent 4x status, sure, but almost everyone will be 2-3x with this card. I think, though, the biggest flaw in your current strategy (which I learned a lot from, btw, so thank you!) is why you don't double down and just max out as many of the co-branded BoA cash rewards cards you can? Personally, I only like to have 2 hard pulls on my credit report at a time, but that doesn't seem to be a barrier to you. If that were me, I would absolutely have one BoA cash rewards card for every single category (maybe multiple for online shopping, travel, and dining). IMPORTANT NOTE that BoA now only lets you get one Cash Rewards credit card per 24 months. However, this stipulation only applies to the vanilla version of the card, and not the co-branded ones with WWF, MLB, Susan G Komen, or US Pride. Each also counts as a separate product than the Cash Rewards card, despite being fundamentally the same thing. This is why I have one of the WWF cards and one of the MLB Cards (also a tiny amount gets donated to WWF with that card and I get a card with a Tiger and a card with my awful, but beloved, Mariners on it). It would seem like a no-brainer for you to have a card permanently set to dining, a card permanently set to online shopping (or multiple), cards for travel, and maybe the other categories, as needed (and you can always change categories 1x per month). Plus, all of these cards would get you 3.5% at grocery stores and wholesale clubs (just remember, get Visa versions of the card if you want to use them at Costco, they only accept Visa). My best guess is you've thought of this and don't want to mess around with the juggling of cards, which is fair. But I'm curious why it sounds like you've never gotten at least a second or third BoA co-branded card? If it's the 24 month thing, you can double check what I said by comparing the contract of the Cash Rewards vanilla card to the contract of any of the co-branded cards. Just download it as a pdf from the apply screen and ctrl+f for "months" and you'll find where it is there for the vanilla card and isn't there for the co-branded cards. PS: If you're reading this, one other thing. We found out the hard way that the Preferred Rewards bonus DOES NOT apply to the sign up bonuses for the BoA cards. It's weird because it still shows "BONUS" on your statement, but you'll see it's just the regular amount of points. We called to confirm this, apparently it confuses a lot of people. Still super happy with our BoA cards, so far, so not the biggest deal, but just a note that the $875 bonus you mentioned in your previous video is indeed only $500. We're still happy you pointed us to those cards though!
But other than dropping it at home for personal amusement, when do you drop it? Most places, no one even touches your card anymore... you have to do it all yourself.

Other than the 2.625% “everything else” category, I used the BofA PR card for 3.5% on hotel & air (when it doesn’t qualify for Amex Plat 6.25%) and non-US dining. In a pandemic, I don’t have enough spending in those categories for it to make a difference. Once I’m traveling internationally again, I’ll have to do some math. Obviously, if I have 4x on the x1 that’s the winner. But at 3x with no fee vs 3.5% with a $95 fee, that extra .5% takes a $19k spend to make it worthwhile... that’s a lot of travel expenses. Of course, I have NOT seen the X1’s full terms, so it’s possible there will be a foreign transaction fee. I sure hope not!

But also just wanted to explain why we, personally, decided the X1 wasn't for us to specifically replace the BoA Premium Rewards, though I see how it could be a great card for many others and this is a good video highlighting its potential value. One big problem with the X1 against these other cards is that cash is king, especially when compared to their redemption options. Most of the options you can redeem with the X1, you can either get 5% back on with your Amazon card and/or 5.25% back by getting another BoA co-branded card. Of the redemption options you mentioned, you could instead just go to Amazon with your Prime card and get an Apple Gift Card, AirBnB gift card, Adidas gift card, all with email delivery, and get 5% back. For almost all the other options, you could get 5.25% by having additional BoA co-branded cash rewards cards, set to online shopping, and buy through their website. Or, for other retailers listed, you could achieve that by having a card permanently set to Travel or other categories. Given that, I would only value their points at $0.95 per point, just barely beating out the Premium Rewards (2.85% to 2.625%). Plus, at least personally, I spend differently when it's cash versus being a gift card or credit, so I'd rather have the cash. Because we're putting most of our purchases on BoA cash rewards co-branded cards and Amazon, I would rather not worry about making sure we hit the $15k each year (effectively dropping the X1 to 1.9% and definitively worse than the Premium Rewards card). We actually do get value out of the airline incidental (and, this year, the grocery credit) too, so the annual fee on that card isn't a concern for us. I can definitely see the value of the X1, especially for high spenders and anyone (like, presumably, yourself) who can regularly get 4x. If I didn't have the Premium Rewards already, I'd probably get it. For now, I'd rather not have to wait around for it and also have it drop my average age of credit. Also, just a note, I don't think you should be highlighting this card as "up to 4% back". Hardly anybody, outside of credit card UA-camrs, are going to regularly be getting the 4x bonus. Most normal people should be more concerned with making sure their spending is such that they're guaranteed to responsibly get the 3x, before considering this card.
I don’t think I have ever seen a Fragile sticker on a Credit Card package. However it makes so much sense on how everyone should treat credit. I bet your X1 video will shatter your Centurion video record.

I like better the Vivid Metal card than the X1. The Vivid Money card has the identical Visa engraved logo. Weights a bit more than 18g, of course no numbers on the back or front. Capacity to generate new virtual cards. 3% Cashback out of the box on restaurant and also it's free. Of course it is different it is a debit card vs credit as Europeans prefer debit, it does have some nice 10% cashback on Lidl,Aldi,Netflix etc and it's a Visa Infinite. Still debit is debit and debit sucks vs credit but craftmanship is also on par with the X1 card, i believe they are made from the same source. I think Visa makes these not sure. It is also very similar to UBS Visa Infinite craftmanship.

Yeah I signed up a couple months ago for this card. 28K is my position currently. I'm totally getting the card as the only reason I keep my Chase Sapphire (downgraded from Reserve) is because it's metal and gives me point redemption options. Honestly it's just because it's metal...and they've given me an absurd 5 digit limit on it.

You cant test the sound also from amazon prime chase visa credit card is metal and Acorns also is metal card I know is not a credit card but has benefits. I want to get that card to keep looking for the best one for me Right now the best credit card is the penfed power cash.
The sound on the X1 is like a 60/40 ratio with the metal being more dominant.

I’m going to have to get a few different surfaces. I did drop this on a bunch of things immediately around me (on my laptop, iPad, the cardboard box) and none were different enough to be worth including in the video... but maybe real glass (instead of ipad) or a marble countertop. Hmmm

“Winter” 2020 but no specific date because they’re going to do a gradual rollout to make sure the support and overall experience is good
I am a cash back fan and still using the Alliant cash back card. If you could at least get a statement credit I would make the switch to the X1

Great to see a new credit card video Dave! I'm in the market for a new credit card and still haven't had a metal one yet. Been very disappointed in the Amex and Chase offerings as they don't really align with my own spending habits. I'm gonna have to review the rewards on this to see if it's any better for me. Very glad to see some competition in this space, great for consumers.
