      I don't think its a surprise that Thieaudio puts out great tuning on great drivers, just a matter of looking to see if what they did matches what you prefer.

    Great review as usual paul! These iems seems really good for what they are offering.
    But I do think that the package is excessively big for what it is offering and also I would have expected modular cable for the price.
    This is what I feel idk how other users feel
    😅

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  11 місяців тому +1

      Yep, the cable as I said is one people used to buy separately as it came with their older tribrids. Should they make a modular version of it? Yes, but its still a nice cable. Packaging is big for what is inside though.

      Tough, Tony/Akros may have compared those two. I haven't heard Kato, but Hype2 has been gaining hype, more of a slow burning set rather than a lot of hype at the launch.

    Paul, I noticed these on Dan's sound tests they really sounded great, particularly in comparison to the AFUL P5... no comparison in vocals, which is what i care about mostly. Nice review, lots of value, thanks. Still digging my Olina SEs so not hugely motivated to upgrade.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  8 місяців тому

      I will admit that the two AFUL sets I have tried have a sound that isn't quite my favorite. Thieaudio, Olina is much closer to what I like. Other people seem to dig P5 and P8, but yeah, don't chase AFUL hybrids if they sound a bit off to you.

    Great Set! I was set on getting one of the Yumes, the EA500 or the Kara, now I'm not sure... Stage like you described the Hype 2 has is what I'm looking for. Which is the cheaper options you have reviewed that come somewhat close or have nicer than average stage arounds $150? So I can go check your reviews... Thanks

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  11 місяців тому +3

      Yume 2 has a similar Sonion sound and I thought of that one as I was listening to Hype2. Both sets got the more natural sound, but Hype2 has the extension and slightly better general tuning. Yume 2 also ran into QC issues so it fell off the radar when sets started to fail. There isn't much around that does what Hype2 does on stage and I don't think I am the only one who said that. EA500 is good though, but I'd get their mod kit for an extra $10usd so you can tweak it.

    Oh man, looks like these will be my first $300 set. Hopefully i can get a good deal later in 2024. With my Sonus, EA500, Hexa, S12 Pro, etc.. the likes of the Nova all the way to the EA1000/Chopin just don't seem like a big enough jump to warrant the cost. Depending on the what the market delivers in the $300 range in 2024, the Hype 2 looks like the one for me. Also looking forward to your Hype 4 review, if you plan on getting them!

      Hype 2 is a nice one, really a slow burner in popularity. Hype 4 and 10 put another round of eyes on it, but Thieaudio can pick drivers and tune.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  2 місяці тому

      Not yet, I think DaVinci was sent for a tour so still some weeks away. If I didn't have Dusk with EQ, I'd be more interested in the others but Dusk is fine if you can EQ the bass curve.

  • @larrydunn4626
    @larrydunn4626 6 місяців тому

    you mentioned Linsoul doesn't talk a lot about the Hype2 vocals magic... I think that is smart and intentional. They don't want to take marketing focus or sales from Hype 4 or 10, which have much greater profit margins. I'm guessing they make $50 more on a Hype 4 sale than a Hype 2 sale. Probably $400 more on a Hype 10 sale than a Hype2 sale. BAs don't cost very much.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  6 місяців тому

      Maybe, Hype 2 did fine. I think most of the marketing sheets are generic and rarely hit specifics as that will leave someone one. The more generic, the wider net of potential customers. Hades is playing out the opposite case, marketing to a very specific group.

  • @Eternal-ReTuning

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  7 місяців тому

      I never heard P5, but I'd bet some money that Hype 2 is much better. I think the main complaint on P5 was the BA sound to it. I never heard it, read a couple reviews to see that it wasn't worth pursuing.

    • @Eternal-ReTuning
      @Eternal-ReTuning 7 місяців тому

      @@PaulWasabii I got it last year, compared with Blessing2, Timeless and Chopin and I still prefer it over all mentioned.
      Chopin is better tuned but has noticeable BA timbre and worst fit.
      P5 warm and relaxed stock tuning has better volume scaling, it does also support EQ better than Chopin who is capped in its technicalities.
      The Chopin BA timbre was obvious when switching to Blessing2 but B2 is too intense with the peak at the treble+ lack of bass.

  • @amanieux

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  4 місяці тому

      $2-300 is the awkward range as no set is perfect. That is why you are seeing sets closer to $400, more drivers, more Sonions, more tuning. That is what happened with Hype4. I usually say spend less or spend more in that range for that reason. I would also wait, there are a couple hybrids coming out, DaVinci, Relentless, maybe others. I am listening to Elysian Pilgrim now. I am like everyone else, waiting to see the one that rules them all. There just isn't a clear leader in that range yet, but lately I have been rotating through Hydro, Dusk, and now Pilgrim. I haven't heard the others, Hype4, Zigaat pair, Pula/Sliivo/meyer sets. Too many hybrids coming in a short period of time.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  11 місяців тому

      Regardless of fit, I'd still take the S12 as I do love a good planar. It takes a lot of drivers to get you close to a planar. Fit is really tough and Thieaudio makes shells on the larger size in general. Sometimes it is just a little bit extra in the wrong place.

      @PaulWasabii  11 місяців тому +2

      I shook mine as I had read that too. I don't know if it develops later or some rattled out of the box. I was certainly curious about it. Some chance they stepped up their QC after the initial feedback too. Mine is recent, I got it later than most people who pre-ordered and noticed the issue.

  • @nashdiz

    If you had to choose between the Hype 2, Quintet, and Simgot EA1000, any thoughts? Specifically keen on instrumental/movie/tv soundtracks, but vocals too, was curious on your thoughts!

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  7 місяців тому +1

      Quintet is a bit of a technical specialist, I was one of the minority who hear the harsh part of it but its technically decent. Hype 2 vs EA1000 is tough for a non-obvious reason, I like my high quality DD with BA next to them. If you can deal with the Hype 2 midbass level, dipped a bit, but lower treble vs EA1000 which might sound warmer and a bit brighter. EA1000 is more lower focused, Hype 2 is more like a very nice hybrid, very nice from bass all they way up. Those two are tough, for soundtracks, I like the immersive sound on Hype 2.

    • @nashdiz
      @nashdiz 7 місяців тому

      Thanks for so much insight! I just got the Hexa and EM6L to try out today, I actually think I'm going to purchase the EA500LM due to the cost and how I hear it's gotten close to the EA1000, and then see how I like it before moving forward to maybe the Hype 2 (or possibly Hype 4 with a sale...). The EA500LM seems to be the best bang for the buck option right now from what I hear!@@PaulWasabii

    Good review, what are the nozzles/ ear fit like. I bought a pair of s12's which i like but they were a pain to get a consistent fit due to not going far enough in ear.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  11 місяців тому

      Different fit issues, the nozzle isn't shallow but going to be a millimeter or so bigger than typical. Typical for Thieaudio though and hybrids that need more room. People will call them slightly chonky though and I think that goes for most of their hybrid/tribrids. But yeah, not the S12 issue and I know what you are talking about on that.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  10 місяців тому +1

      More resolving than the S12 isn't going to happen at $300. You might get more natural, less bright, but more resolving than a planar is much harder than you think. Try doubling your budget.

    • @PaulWasabii
      @PaulWasabii  11 місяців тому +2

      I think it can be best general, safe signature in that price range. If you are looking to max out details or technicals or want warmer, I think there are other alternatives. I think people call it safe, but I think it generally works for a large group who aren't looking for specific characteristics. The $200-$300usd range is tough, usually there is no single best, but one that has what you are looking for.

      I never heard P5 but P5 reviews were mixed. Some people said the timbre is off, other problems. Hype 2 is a safer choice in that it doesn't have deal breaker problems. If I had P5, I wouldn't upgrade. At this point in the year where there are going to be a lot of releases, I'd wait until the end of the year and see if a better hybrid appears or Hype 2 goes on sale for 11-11.
