Thank you for the review! Correct me if I'm wrong, the idea here with the audio tracks is to show what each IEMs sound like using coupler recordings corrected by an EQ curve representing the inverse of a target curve on the coupler? If so may I ask: 1. which chapter is playing what the Canon II is supposed to sound like? 2. what is the coupler and mic? 3. what is the target curve inverted for correction? Thanks! --Yanyin Technology
Wow, what's wrong with the Aful Performer 5 🤨, just too much of brightness for me after Hype and Canon 2. Damn, I kind of like the Canons - easy going, smooth. The Hype for me is like sibling with Canon 2. Didn't enjoy Blessing 2 after hearing the Canon and Hype - sorry but the Dusk sounds artificial. I'm definitely after the warmer, easy going signature, then it also depends on the material played.
relistening now 3 mos later. as I have the Hype2 and finding I'd like a little more forward vocals.... in this test I hear the vocals more forward with the Canon 2. It's odd b/c the graph would say the Hype2 has more prominent, forward vocals, but it doesn't. Stevie's voice has a little more clarity with the Canon 2 in these clips. But, I know you do a lot of listening directly, and not through the clips as we are doing here.
I did. I think I preferred the first switch on and second switch off. The recording is either that or another setting, not sure. But my commentary basing my opinion on would be the current setting I have mine at (first switch on, second off)
learn to read measurements and stop relying on sound demos and reviews of internet strangers. There is really no way to reach end game as long as you are surrounded by biases from multiple people and continue to believe that this hobby is purely subjective which is not, learn to EQ, read AES papers if you are really interested in audio. videos like this promotes consumerism and will take you nowhere tbh.
This is the effect of some iems to put a great focus on voices, so all the other instruments are behind. Old radios have the same focus, on mids and upper-mid range.
@@apollomoonlandings you are absolutely wrong my dear, since I wasn't using Salnotes Zero to hear the demo. The reality is that you could use the most naturally sounding iem and you wouldn't get an accurate sound from these recordings cause like I said before, they are not 100% accurate 🤗
Man, you must definitely do a collaboration with an IEM company and release your own preference tuned IEM in sub $100 budget. Will definitely buy that without any second thought. Thanks to your suggestion, I am currently enjoying QKZ HBB as my daily driver.
I have made a quick tutorial in my channel on how to sync Dan's videos to compare them without having to play and pause the videos individually. I hope it's of use to you.
I'm so curious to see all these compared using heavy EQ-ing. I personally prefer starting with AutoEQ from Equilizer APO and go from there. I have very limited experience, I have the HD660s and 598 and love them both with eq, would Never use them without. I started in the IEM world with the Wan'er, the Galileo and looking to upgrade to a Hype 2. For IEMs i reduce the ear gain, 3kz by 4-5db to make them sound flat, like the headphones. What do you guys think? Thanks Dan for your detailed insights based on real life usage.
Based on the graphs I suspect the target tuning of the cannon ii was something like the 64 audio nio. I haven't heard the nio, but I loved the volur, and was looking to see if there was something cheaper with a similar sound profile, and I came across the cannon II.
Based on these samples here, I feel that I've made the absolutely right choice of getting the T3+. To my ear it bests the AFUL 5 in naturalness of the tone (let alone the SLAM), but as for the FUDU, I think its such a different profile and to best it (or the T3+), you'd have to spend quite a lot more. Got the Simgot E6ML as my latest addition, partly because of your sound demos so a big thanks for those, and i feel i made the correct choice there (imo it beats giants like Truthear Hexa, of course the Hexa is considerably cheaper). It bests the T3+ in most aspects and for the money, it should. Upgrading from the E6ML is going to prob mean at least S12 Pro money, or even more.. Thanks again for the great content! Any plans on doing a headphone demo/review again in the future?
B2DUSK - very wrong tonality . thin and unnatural , happy i did not buy that failure . First time heard at Oluf's the original B2 , it sounded very crappy , did not believe how thin and unnatural with that 6K peak it appeared , everybody was licking it how *good* it supposed to be . I was confused . But now , big homie Dan showed us again that B2 in general , as well as B3 because of that same 6K peak , is just overall incorrect unnatural wonky tuning that is unworthy of my ears . Canon2 is a nice surprise though , that tonality is just correct and pleasant in general . And yes , Hype2 is definitely a banger , agreed .Them other joints are less relevant , Hidisz is just warm and Aful5 is wrong tonally and claustrofobic . Thank you , Dan , respect for the effort done .✌
Dan, please make CCA HM20 (1dd 7ba) The frequency response is similar to Fatfreq Grand Maestro. I've been listening for a week now CCA HM20 before this they were QKZ x HBB. CCA HM20 better in the highs and sub-bass. QKZ x HBB seemed too dark to me.
seems to me the Canon II has a little midbass bleed into the lower end of male vocals. In exchange for that it has a lot more bass slam, and bass volume, than the Hype II. I know the hype II sound is more up Dan's alley... It's really a choice of which sin is acceptable... boring bass, or slightly muddlied lower male vocals. Or EQ the Cannon II down a couple of db at 250Hz and solve that bleed issue.
Dusk is too bright in the mids for me I don't know why but I like that muddled Fudu sound it just sounds good to me. I think personally I like the hype 2 over the canyon but if it came to price wise I would probably go to the hype 2 that sounds really great. Listening on Dunu Falcon Ultra
I'm sensitive to 7-12khz which most iems seem to boost somewhere, I'm less but still a tiny bit sensitive to 12-15khz as long as there isn't a crazy spike here I'm fine. but my god so many "neutral" iems have a spike at like 8khz and it just a sibilance dagger and makes a lot of stuff I listen to way to sharp
@@dansaudioreviews i remember you saying you dont like the kiwi melody, some reviewers say it is better than the fudu, better separation and technicalities. Whats your opinion on that?
@@SileDevil more separation, more details perceived that come from the upper mids and treble maybe, but the fudu tries to be a warm experience. The melody, though having a blob of bass, adds more upper end than the fudu and is too much for me. Perceiving detail and open space doesn’t mean much when you get distracted by too much treble or a wonky sound. Fudu is a more pleasing experience to me. It balanced the upper end better.

The IEM game is so subjective. For me, top IEMs like Blessing 2 Dusk sound like an AM radio when compared to Cannon II haha. Thanks, Dan.

In person, the b2 dusk sounds very easy to listen to and enjoyable for a long time. But I usually like something more highlighted.
is it me or the fudu has a tad too much midbass ?
I think it does--- not a well defined and controlled bass. Still, it is easily listened to for long sessions. In it's price point it's okay.
