5 cylinder engines have a unique engine note that is a major Third. This gives it a "rooooo" sound rather than a "raahhh" sound that you get from even numbered pistons.
Believe it or not, Mercades doesn't have that many supercharged inline 4 engines. You might get enough results if you go with "the best factory supercharged inline 4s" as opposed to just ones with Kompressor. You're more likely to find turbocharged inline 4's instead as that's where the industry has shifted to for meeting emissions regulations. Heck, even Honda turbocharged the new civics (and removed VTEC at the same time for some inexplicable reason)
These tiny radial engined models sounds like a real bomb raid. Love it. By the way, the Société des Moteurs Le Rhône was renown for aircraft engine (powering french planes in WWI), before being absorbed during the war by Gnome, to form Gnome&Rhône. Once the WWI ended, they produced renown motorcycles. After WWII, Gnome&Rhône was nationalized to form SNECMA (Société Nationale d'Etude et de Construction de Moteurs d'Aviation), who built jet and rocket engine for fighter planes or the Ariane rocket. SNECMA was then privatized back, and known to this day as Safran. And they have a private museum, full of gleaming hi-tech jet engines, hisoric radial engines from the WWI, and with a vast collection of motorcycle, but the iconic radial engine one is, indeed, missing.
5-Cylinders deserve the love. Small, unique sound and within reach of most people They still retain their characterful exhaust note even if they're turbocharged
i love five cylinders.. you get the power of a 4 cylinders and the fuel economy of a v6.. but they sound good so it makes up for the awful fuel economy
Honda has a history of trying oddball configurations. They did a V-3 two stroke in the 80's that did win a little, as well as their attempt at an oval piston V-4, inline six and flat six bikes.....not to mention the Acura inline 5
There is a special aura indeed. Yummy sound, yummy idle torque. These engines even with gasoline (or 'just' LPG) are almost diesel engines in the lower rpm range, and the Audi 5cyl turns up to 4500...
i'd like to see about putting that last engine in an old-fashioned moped of some type (yes, i know it's an aviation engine, yes i know it'll be stupid and useless, but it would look, sound, and drive like nothing else)
Those were some beautiful rc planes! I had a hanger 9 Sopwith Camel with a Golden knight Saito in it. At 500ft you'd think it was the real thing! Sadly it nose dived on take off due to radio interference... Was a pretty spectacular crash!!!
15-20 years ago there was many to choose from:Audi,Alfa Romeo,Jeep,Isuzu,Ford,Mersedes,Volvo,VW,Toyota,Hummer,Chevrolet,Ssangyong,Land-Range Rover,Fiat. What a shame that 5 cyl engines are dying breed, apart from TT,RS3 and diesel Ranger I can't think of any new car that has 5 pots(Europe).. Even Volvo, master of fives, stopped making them, where the world is coming to... ..
I think the reason is that they're getting higher power outputs out of smaller displacement 4 cylinder engines these days. As you say it's a shame, I have a 5-pot Volvo (albeit a D5) & they're such characterful sounding engines compared to a boring 4 cylinder, to me anyway.
Wish the rc211 actually sounded like a 5 cylinder. Think the crank doesnt have the same angles as a V5 VW for example, sounds more like a very angry vfr 800😶
How did Honda get to be known as one of the most dull/boring motorcycle manufacturers today after producing some of the most interesting stuff in the 70s' to early 2000's? If they understood anything about how Yamaha rebooted their motorcycle market share with the MT-series bikes, Honda would bring that V5 engine back into the market in a couple displacement ranges in semi-affordable bikes.
The 1976 Audi 100 GL 1.9 litre C1 in this video does NOT have a 5-cylinder engine. The 5-cylinder 2.1 litre 5E Audi engine was introduced in the C2 generation for the 1977 model year. And later the 5-cylinder 1.9 came along.
Dobra Jutro. Here's one for you. American cars are only known for havine V8's. Here are some with under two and even 1 liter engines. When automobiles had only 1 and 2 cylinders engines. Semi trucks with 2 cylinder engines.

Look it up? I don't feel like explaining the theory as I'll probably get it wrong.
In a lot of respects I prefer the sound of my 5 cylinder car over the 6 cylinder cars I've owned in the past.
Leonard - A major third in music.
No wonder the Audi Quattro Sport S2 Group B car sounds so crazy!
Can you make the sound again , I didnt hear it the first time.
Do small cars with big engines.
Please!
Alfa 147 GTA :)

Sunbeam tiger
Massive cars with tiny engines?
Im so glad to see this channel grow! Keep up the good work buddy!
Can you do a list with best sounding 4-bangers with kompressor?
Well my Mercedes CLK 230 KO sounds AWESOME
-its exhaust pipe is like "broken" and i got a headache last time i listened to it-

You are the only channel that I wait for a new video. Keep going men :)
You know why I love your channel? Because you truly have amusing and original content noone else has.
Another great video. Your french accent totally made my day btw haha
That's the point 😂😂

Lol that rc plane at 5:10 sounds like my dads audi quattro
job hoogeboom
Probably because both have an I-5.
Guy with the moki plane had a nice concrete runway and was trying to be a bit cocky and taking off on the grass nearly crashed it before take off
There is a rare "petrolhead" like you who is truly in love with every type of engine that exist... Greethings from Croatia
Here in Brazil we have the Volkswagen Santana 4 pots and 2 liters. But I never imagined that it had a 5 pot. Amazing video!
I love how educational your videos are. Thank you
In the past I owned a 2.2 liter 5 cylinder Audi 90. I also owned a 2.3 liter Audi 100. Especially the Audi 90 produced a nice growl.
The Moki engine would be pretty sweet on a go kart or small motorcycle. That exhaust note, tho...
Those little scale airplanes have some surprisingly mean and throaty exhaust notes.
Disneys Pixar movie Planes in a nutshell
The 5 bangers can never be praised enough ^_^
Been waiting for a 5 cylinder video for so long!
5-Cylinders deserve the love. Small, unique sound and within reach of most people

Came to make sure you had the Honda RC148/149 in the list. Was not disappointed. :)
i love five cylinders.. you get the power of a 4 cylinders and the fuel economy of a v6.. but they sound good so it makes up for the awful fuel economy
osp80 yea except v8s have an actual power output from the factory. not like in a the high 100s or low 200s like 5 cylinders do..
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_RS_2_Avant
Looks like 5-bangers have their usage in many different vehicles... nice
That Honda V5 sounds amazing!
That P-47 👌
The Moki radials sounds so lovey.
Amazing sounds! there is some bikes that I never ever seen before! tks!
smallest production engine was a 5cc 5 cylinder radial called a g-mark made in japan, lovely little thing, I have one but doesnt run well
Huh... a V-5 on that Honda. That's like the only one I've ever heard of.
Volkswagen did a V5 too
phil955i vr5

Nice,its 2.3 liter right?
Derin Elmas yea of course it is
I think thats the finest RC Tempest ive ever seen! That model of Tempest shot down a MIG 15 in Korea!
gotta love your video quality
As a topic for a future video. What are the largest displacement boxer engines?
Keep up the great videos👍
Very nice video my friend! WOW some real oddballs there
Nice sounding 50cc engines!!
Honestly I have waited for more car engines but still that's an interesting list. :)
Those Hondas sure sound cool.
There is a special aura indeed.
Yummy sound, yummy idle torque. These engines even with gasoline (or 'just' LPG) are almost diesel engines in the lower rpm range, and the Audi 5cyl turns up to 4500...
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ those mini German Radial engines.
Der rotary one shocked me! If ich heard that I'd think it's ww1 again!!
Very nice video ;D, how about a video on the best 4 cylinder race cars? Would make an interesting list XD.
i'd like to see about putting that last engine in an old-fashioned moped of some type (yes, i know it's an aviation engine, yes i know it'll be stupid and useless, but it would look, sound, and drive like nothing else)
Do list with air cooled cars please! Thank you!
The #46 on the Honda Rcv... Those were the days.
Most powerful 3-cylinder engines?
Someone should make a bike around those small radial engines
I was thinking that, a moped with one of the 50cc ones would be pretty cool lol
Those were some beautiful rc planes! I had a hanger 9 Sopwith Camel with a Golden knight Saito in it. At 500ft you'd think it was the real thing! Sadly it nose dived on take off due to radio interference... Was a pretty spectacular crash!!!
VIVA ITALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!from Australia
They should rebuild the Verdel star configuration engine today with a modern motorcycle chassis!
I always wonder how much time do you research on the web just to make a 9 minute video. That is REALLY good quality content.
2-3 days of work, sometimes can be done during 1-2 full days.
Ahhh...that rc211V, what a fucking demon. A trully masterpiece!
how does that model plain sound better than my car
gebakken aarshaar that plane sounds fantastic. I'm glad someone else noticed it too.
Sounds like my dad's diesel engined Mercedes W124

Hand to the heart,I do prefer I5 rumble to V8 gurgling..
Good for you mate on D5,I'm still dreaming about owning S2/S6/RS2 with that magical 2226cc..
I thought Audi was the 5 cylinder master... hmm...
All subjective.
5:08, is that a Seafury mk.2?
6:47 - Hey propellor! Prop? are you ok?
*calling for ambulance
it's called rolling shutter effect
Thank you captain Obvious!
Looks creepy
@@_Graves That's Why The Propeller Looked All Weird. My First Reaction Was: WTF PROPELLER?!?!? I Don't Think That Is Normal.....
Wish the rc211 actually sounded like a 5 cylinder. Think the crank doesnt have the same angles as a V5 VW for example, sounds more like a very angry vfr 800😶
Can u post about smallest diesel engines!!! Pls!!!

Hey visioracer, what was your 5 banger car?
The only problem with the first radial bike is if you go off road you'll fuck up the cylinder pointing down
Moki engines are hungarian, not german ;)
The absolute smallest 5 cylinder I know of is 0.5cc 2 stroke made by model engine maker Ronald Valentine.
How the rc149 will stall with rev below 17000rpm? In the video the guy is revving it 8k-14k rpm sort of.. enlighten me please

Dobra Jutro, hardly, it's the obscure out of the ordinary lists that makes me subscribe ...keep up the good work VisioRacer! :-)
The diversity of this channel is one of the reasons I'm still subscribed.
WHY MIX BIKES & CARS - TOTAL NO NO - FOR ME
5 cylinder engines are rare and motorcycles are the best place to find rare engines.
5-Cylinders deserve the love. Small, unique sound and within reach of most people
