    This is why I could never be a UA-cam creator like you! My video would last 30 seconds! Not great for the algorithm! “Hi I take my Leica Q3 out and an extra battery. Thanks for watching”. 😂

    Thanks for sharing your overseas street travel kit with us. You provided a lot of useful tips.
    When I travel to locations where my gear is likely to get lost, stolen, or damaged, I usually leave my Leicas at home and take lower-cost expendable equipment.
    Also, I take two bodies that can share the same lenses.

    I have almost the reverse journey.
    I looked at my Canon 7D before my gap year to SEA, and thought: hell no. I decided to shoot it all on my brand new iPhone 4S instead. Now I have very poor quality, 2 stop DR, crunchy, over-filtered memories. Although all I learned was I need an 85. I was fine with the 28 eq for the whole trip except on shot where I was on a boat and couldn't reach.
    I spent about 3 years trying out every tiny camera combo I could. Buying and selling Sony a6k series, Canon EOS M series, Fujifilm X-E series. Nobody was really making modern 28 eq lenses. Fujifilm had the nicest lenses so I stayed.
    I went back to SEA for a year with my wife in 2019. The 18f2 broke month 2 in Cambodia - ironic, because it's made in Thailand. So I only had the 50f2 remaining. I had the reverse problem from my first trip where I had lots of detail shots no context.
    I feel like my insistence to confine my gear to a small hip pack has screwed me twice now. I will never change. 😂
    Now I have a hip pack with Ricoh GRIII and I'm looking for a nice compact interchangable system to pair with it. To hang over my shoulder. I've decided 24, 35, 85 is all I need, for some redundancy around my fav focal length. This time I'm getting my shots. 😎

    If I already didn't have my Rimowa classic and Essential Sleeve, I would definitely invest in the Monos Pro Plus. It is definitely worth the money and best pound for pound carry on. and the weight is sooo light!

    The fisher's vest is my all time favorite camera accessory! Fuji x-s20 plus 70-300mm are only 2 of what I can pack into a vest like this. The 30mm macro fits in a small pocket. Batteries, charges, plus++++. Best camera accessory ever!!!
    Thanks!!

    What is the weight of your overhead bag? Some airlines have weight restrictions of 8 or 10 kg.

    • @GajanBalan
      @GajanBalan  Рік тому +2

      Airlines keep switching, so it moves between 7-12kg I’ve found lately. Between the best, backpack, and carry-on I’ll move gear depending on how strict they enforce those restrictions.

    Thank you for all these tips for the trip and all your videos so interesting.
    What do you think of replacing the SL2S with a Q in addition to an M11 with a 50 and 35mm?
    Does the pack then become even lighter?

    • @GajanBalan
      @GajanBalan  Рік тому +1

      It’d be considerably lighter but I can’t quite commit to a Q body at this time. For photography trips, I’ll bring 3 cameras and 3-4 lenses to have options. I like the ability to pick any body and pair any lens, and get to work.
      And yea, it means more to pack than the average person but it comes with the territory. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾

      @cyrilcornetphoto Рік тому +1

      Thanks for your return.
      I completely understand your answer.
      I have a hardware configuration close to yours (M11, SL2S, M6 and M and SL optics) for my professional and personal services.
      I fell in love with the Q3 recently for its compactness, practicality, quality and speed. But its "too perfect" rendering makes me doubt and the rendering of the M or the SL with an M lens is more my philosophy. Having too many cameras, we get lost...
      Anyway, I'm off topic of the video and I apologize.
      Thanks again for your feedback.@@GajanBalan

      @@cyrilcornetphoto I replaced my Q with a D-LUX 7, because I never got familiar with the Q. It's a good camera, but not for me. But if you own an M11 and a 50 mm, the Q can make it as an extra Summilux lens cheaper than buying a 28/1.4. You could skip the 35 mm and instead invest in a 90 mm. Then you cover focal length from 28 to 90 and have two bodies incl. the option for video. I stick to M240/MP240 plus the D-Lux for my job as press photographer. Just my opinion.

  • @lillyknight525
    @lillyknight525 Рік тому

    Great video Gajan 😊 just curious, when you carry your two bodies for short photo walks, how do you go about carrying them if you don't have a backpack with you? You mentioned one around the wrist. Is the other on a shoulder strap? And do you find that carrying two bodies without a bag can get a bit awkward at times?
    The only way that I can conveniently use two cameras simultaneously is with a duel harness (from my wedding photography) or have a peak design capture clip on my backpack. These days, I find myself carrying a second body in my sling bag so that it's relatively accessible, and I'm not having to deal with two cameras hanging off my body 😊

    • @GajanBalan
      @GajanBalan  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching. When it’s two small bodies (M11/M6) I’ll have one on a short strap around my neck and the primary camera with a longer strap, looped around my wrist. I’ll be walking and if I see some with that’ll work better for the second camera, I’ll sling the first camera or “drop” it while it’s looped and compose with the second.
      If the second camera is a bigger body, I’ll have that slinged around me in a longer strap and everything else is the same. I think it feels most awkward if *both* cameras are hanging off you and I avoid that for most of these walks. One camera is always in the wrist ready to go.
      That being said, I can’t imagine doing this for a longer shoot day or wedding because you’re right, it’d be too awkward and uncomfortable. These are walks where I’m out for ~3 hours or less and then heading back to my desk.

    New Leica Summilux M 1:1.4/50mm ASPH or LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M
    50mm f/2 ASPH ?

      - GR iii
      - AF201FG flash
      - red, blue, pink gels
      - 3 extra GR batteries
      - 4 extra aaa flash batteries
      - battery charger for GR batteries
      - iPhone SD card adapter
      - micro fiber cleaner

    I can't see the clou to carry so much gear around the World. Can you live without the gear, you don't bring? Sure, you've just pack out your skills. For Street or travel I bring my MP240, my LUX 50, a Summarit 2.5/90 and a D-LUX. The D-LUX is my little helper, when I want to shoot some video, but the main job is completed with the M + LUX. If I'm on assignment, I bring more. I don't do air travel, I prefer road trips. But anyway: thanks for sharing!

    • @GajanBalan
      @GajanBalan  Рік тому +1

      For a lot of my flights, Carry-on was ~12kg and 7kg for the personal item. Key this here is I would move items between the bags and vest to squeeze it in as needed.
      That being said, enough of the flights didn’t care to check. Just the smaller, regional airlines.
