SPY VS SPY
The socially conscience band that has been around since the early eighties.
Started in Nelson Bay but really found their way once they moved to Sydney, living in the squats at Glebe.
Fast forward 30 years, Michael Weiley has itchy fingers & wants to get back to what he does best, play guitar live. He talks about seeing Cliff the original drummer while catching a train from Central Station & longs to re unite the magic they shared in the early days. The message is sent out & Cliff replies a couple of years later & soon Cliff is back on the skins, providing the missing heartbeat to the band.
Their last show together on stage was to a sold-out show & Michael’s last wishes for the band was for them to continue playing Spy v Spy music live. The Spy’s live show is like being hit by a truck, the songs Injustice, Hard Times, Soldiers, A.O, Credit Cards, One Of A Kind, Don’t Tear It Down, come at you hard & fast, music with a message, an experience in musical nirvana.
The new line up is:
Cliff Grigg, original drummer
Dean Reynolds, lead vox
Andrew Davis, lead guitar
Cam Hallmen, bass

To all the haters out there. This is the band that Mike picked to carry on the legacy of such an amazing Aussie band. Before you start bagging out these guys maybe you should find out facts. I, like you wish that none of our favorite musicians would pass away or move on, but it happens, and we need to appreciate that these guys are carrying the legacy of what once was. No one will ever be or replace your favorite musician, everybody is different and we need to respect that. We need guys like this so live music can live on.
Well said Brett.... 100%
REALITY IS THE MATTER OF THE CLARITY OF THE MIND 40 YEARS ON ...WELL DONE GUYS
There should only be 3 of them for a start.
@@NoTaboos says who???
Not what Cliff or Mike wanted.
You said it Brett. This is "The Spies" in every sense. They have transported that sound and spirit through 40 years into the now and the music lives on. It is like a breath of fresh air and God knows we need it! Mike would be wrapped that these guys are carrying the torch for him and you can SO hear it in the music. That takes some doing, no doubt about it!!
Who doesn't miss Bloxom and the original guitarist, but these guys played tight as fuck. Good sound all round.
I agree, they are recording a new album at present, can't wait to hear it.
These ain't the Spys!!!!!! The vocalist killed this great, classic song. Where the fark is Blox??????
@@s.e.wagger3888 Craig is a legend
@@MusicViewTV i have been hearing about these guys recording Mike's new songs for many years now...i wait with baited breath
guitarist is dead :(
Cheers Cliff for keeping the tunes alive - Mike would be happy with this ----- Cheers
Not the original band line up, but the passion for the songs is just the same or maybe greater. Love the new Spy.😃
Wow so great to find this on UA-cam and hear that the band has found a new life with Cliff and new members.. Today's music just doesn't have the raw passion and power like this and bands like the Oils. The new guys did an amazing job, they were really getting into it. The driving guitar is so incredible and just like Mike. Can't wait to see them live and hear the new album.
My God is that Cliff on the drums. The guitar is doing a pretty good job but Mike was the OG sound of the Spies. Very difficult to emulate Mike's style of playing.
This is classic man. Today we don't have nothing like that. Spy vs Spy and others band that playing this way are gifts we received to spark our days. Enjoy because never will appear nothing hereinafter.
Mikes guitar and amp.. passed on to keep the sound!
@@504888 Yes, that is Mike's amp. I have always wondered how he had it set up. No one ever had a sound like him. Mike seemed to be the master of digital delay way before other players claimed it.
@@leokimvideo Actually that one was a loaner...however the guitar is Mikes. I believe his original rig is a pr of fender twins running a stereo delay which Andrew still uses today.
@@MusicViewTV Have Andrew some social web like Insta or something like that?
I would like to see Craig Bloxom again on the bass and vocals!
Seria fodástico!!!
Imagine! There'd be a stampede to get tickets. I dare to dream.
I hear the new album and i think that it is fantastic and it is everything that you would expect from the spies even with a line up change
You can search REGGAE SPYS now, feat Blox on bass n vocals!
A banda sempre terá no Brasil seu amor , claro vão ter que se esforçar muito para agradar o público pois em 2015 o show está espetacular
Verdade man!
It's my first time I've seen the original drummer playing. This band was very famous and popular, especially by the surfers from Rio de Janeiro. There was a radio station that was used to play "Clarity of Mind" repeatedly. The guitar strap has Brazilian flag lol.
sou dessa época... Radio Cidade e Fluminense FM tocavam Spy v Spy hora sim, hora também!! Amo demais esse som
Cliff wanted absolutely nothing to do with it..,( as late as 2015)
Thats until he heard mikes new songs
I will admit I have never heard or seen the original band. But I have seen these guys a few times now and I think they are great. I not only love the music but the way in which they perform it. To the original band members thank you for picking such a talented group of musicians to carry on your legacy.
The original Spy’s were at least 20 times better than this live..
Really like the energy and the voice is just as good as in the older videos. A really great band, was a new discovery for me.
Awesome. I so miss the sound in todays music. Just not the same. Thanks for keeping the spirit alive!!!
You guys are FANTASTIC. I've watched the Spys since the 80's but THANK YOU for the ASTOUNDING sound the band plays. I recorded youse at Blacktown Leagues in 2007 just AWESOMe. We miss Mike but you guys ROCK. Keep playing and I'll come to the gigs.
this is real surfing music!! only those who lived through that time know!! and so many other bands that are gone but their legacy remains
gotta say even though I just discovered this I got the feels for Spy v Spy. My first experience of them was in Darwin in the 80's and these fellas still rock.
Great stuff, you guys rock...Mike would be proud..keep up the good work..
How would Mike be proud of this covers band? If Cliff Grigg cared at all for his former band mates he would have called them something else. Blasphemy!
I remember seeing you guys in freo back in the 80's...still rock👍💖 even remember the lyrics....ya still got it!👍💖. It's got crazy right😵
Got ya albums👍💖🇦
🇺old school👍💖
The original band was incredible, but im feeling something for this new great crew , God bless them and i sure theres greatness ahead. ..
Thanks Cliff for keeping it alive.
Nice work guys. Although Mike (RIP) and Craig is no longer frontman this line up is solid.
Keep the Spies music going Cliff.
Much respect from a fan since 1984
Hopefully Craig and Cliff can get back together......
I dont think so, Craig just lauched his new band REGGAE SPYS, wich is great too!
Cliffy good to see you back steering the ship
I never thought that Cliff would like to continue the spies legacy, was surprising! Sad that Blox don’t want to joy with these guys
Mike asked him to before he died and after he suddenly got diagnosed with terminal cancer
Very nice to know it! Blox, Mike and Cliff made the soundtrack of my life... I stole my older's brother tape at 90's begining, when I was 7... and my life changed!
Bullshit craig was never interested in getting back on stage with mike...ditto you until you heard the new songs...yea i was sitting next to mike in 2015 when he tried to persuade you to rejoin ...he got 10 min of silence before u hung up...
Yes cliff i have not forgotten broadway in 2001..midnight and im only offering u a lift
wow awesome, still sounding great
Agora tem que rolar Gang Gajang, Hoodoogurus e Australian Crawl ! Wow ! Greetings from Brazil !!!
Curiosamente virão ao Brasil em agosto, as duas primeiras citadas hahahah, junto do novo projeto do Craig, REGGAE SPYS!!
Bom demais.
Viva o Rock'n'roll 🤘
Sounds bloody AWESOME!!!!
Yes, it aint Blox or Mike, but, hey, its all about the spirit, the music and the words.
I want that Tele!!
Awesome!
Excelente!!!
Uau... very nice....hugs from Brazil
M. Weley always present!!!!!
40 years on ..RRALITY IS THE MATTER OF THE CLARITY OF THE MIND..WELL DONE CLIFF ..KIND REGARDS GRAEME
Amazing energy and still young inside the soul , spy so great acrrossed the time
I heard they're heading into a studio in Woy Woy Bay on the Central Coast, this month or next, to cut some new stuff.
Gostei da alça da guitarra... Não sei porque! Gosto muito de TAKE ME AWAY!!!!!
Fooooda!!!
Excellent band! Seen them in the 70's and today they are right up there. Big fan. BTW what is the tele the guitarist is playing-awesome sound.
That's Mike's Tele I think :)
Band pró surf 😎🏄🏾♂️
ALOHA !! HUGS FROM BRAZIL
It’s such a nice touch that Andrew Davis (the new lead guitarist) wields Mike’s guitar at all of the live shows
Yes it is a nice gesture. I love that guitar. And miss MW.
Well said. Mike. Wanted to moove on. Balmain connection.
Theres a few key Spy Vs Spy elements missing here. Craig's vocals (the guy here just sounds off..) , Mike's guitar playing (Nice try though) ... and Cliff's teeth..
NICE !!!!!
back in Brazil!!!
Not v Spy v Spy unless you got Blox up front.
Grande Spy vs Spy, a melhor banda australiana de todos os tempos!
The best
I'm sorry but they'll never be.
How can this band call themselves Spy vs Spy? It's not Spy vs Spy without Craig
Ficou massa o cover dos caras !!!
This was a band I probably saw the most in my youth. Despite all the knockers this sounded pretty darn good. 👍 But being a fellow drummer I did miss Cliffy doing the high left arm on the down beats….😊
A pegada é boa, mas não se compara com o spy spy com Craig e Michael, vivi shows épicos na década de 90 no BR
So sad. Was at every concert at the Corner Hotel in Richmond Victoria during the 80s
Definetly not spys. Love Cliff though.
Belo cover
Amazing live performance, without a doubt the best thing I have seen in years.
Rock On Spys. 🕵️♂️🕵️♂️🕵️♂️🕵️♂️
Deano, Ando and Cammo have joined Cliff to carry on the legacy that Mike and Blox have asked for. They certainly are not a Spy's cover band but I for one am happy the legacy of their music is carrying on for NEW REASONS 🤙😎🎸🕵️♂️🤙
That's what some people don't realise...thanks Eddy
@@MusicViewTV The New Single "Overland" is Great! Can't wait to hear the Whole Album! 🥁🎸🎤🎼

If this dont make you proud to be Australian then wtf
Show foda em GUARAPARI es a muleque
The Clayton’s Spy v Spy
Sonzera da porra!!!
As an avid fan for 30 years I appreciate keeping the legacy alive but without Blox and Mike it just isn’t the Spies! Great to see Cliff back but ... Craig’s vocals and Mike’s lead is what put them on the map! RIP Mike!
Is that at coral view or coral sea resort?
Mirage Whitsundays 😀
@@krishutchinson1739 knew he islands in the background look familiar
Isso me lembra um jogo
Sorry it's not the same, use to see the spies at the venue and even supported them in my original band. Just a covers band now
I agree ... feels wrong ...
@@noonespecial4171 agree mate it's not the same. My original band supported the spies a number of times in the 90s man they were great. They should have left it the way it was.
A tight band, BUT...... it is NOT the Spies. Sorry, but the vocalist killed this song, that is a signature Bloxom tune. Reynolds should be singing "Disturbed" covers or other Metal songs. He's got a great Metal voice but definitely not for Spy music.
@@s.e.wagger3888 it is distressing, I agree. Just be sure to have a Spies CD at all times in the car with Craig singing.
@@s.e.wagger3888 agree
Atenção a carreia Basso do guitarrista, várias bandeiras do Brasil
Muito bacana
For a moment I thought: "Fast Eddie" is fuckin singing with the spies!!! So I go to the line up to confirm and I read "Dane Reynolds" as the lead vocals...uow...maybe I'm surfing to much!! Kkkk Sorry for the joke ladies and keep playing, I love It! Doesn't matter If you are the originals or not, I Sing together "Credit Cards"
Hate to be negative but this is the equivalent of Marc Williams singing for Dragon
Brazil and Spy forever.
👏👏👏👏💪💪💪
need graig bloxom back
Can't beat Craig Bloxom for Bass and voice
Thanks Captain Obvious!
Queria poder dar mil likes!!!!
So do we lol
Somos 2!
Os feraas do surf
tooth vs tooth
How would Mike be proud of this covers band? No style, no passion and no presence. If Cliff Grigg cared at all for his former band mates he would have called them something else. Blasphemy! I saw them all over Sydney and beyond and they were amazing! The genius Mike Weiley had his own unique sound which will never be replicated and Blox was a demon on the bass and sang with real passion and purpose. Do you remember the disaster that was Inxs without Rock God Michael Hutchence? Nuff said.
Well there is no MW. Sadly he is gone. Blox does not want to be part of the band anymore. Mike's last wishes to Cliff was keep the Spy's alive. What I'm a bit disappointed at was Cliff not rejoining earlier. I mean 20 years ago. Etc. When Mike was begging him too I think. Anyway as far as I'm concerned. These guys are doing the best they can and sound good. Are they as good as the original line up. Most certainly no. But they are keeping that great band alive. Mike was on his own for so many years too. With other musos. You never called it a cover band etc. Probably. Anyway. Not sure on all the hate here. The boys are having a go. Good on them.
You're entitled to your opinion. It's nothing to do with hate. It's the fact that my mate's and I loved this band and to call them the original name ain't right. Do you remember when Thin Lizzy was still Thin Lizzy? Phil Lynott was a one off and I was down on the guys for years as how can you remain intact when your talisman has gone?
@@clem0001967 Have a listen to Their New Single "Overland" It's Great! 🥁🎸🎤🎼
Bring back Blox. Cliff, Blox and Davis could work.
What
Band sounds tight .. not sure about the style of the new singer. Cliff’s drumming still great
As a life long Spy's fan, this is hard to watch, sorry.
I agree. I want to be happy for Cliff, but I just can’t get excited.
Now it's Half a world with vaccine cards the other half left to starve.
More like the others treated like pariahs.
Heavy Sex Pistols LOL
Look, nothing can beat our beloved original Spies, but get over it folks; it's great to have the awesome old songs being played...
Must admit I prefer the original politics.
dig the band, but man the singer doesn’t really sit well with me imo, glad they’re continuing no matter what though. so good to see cliff doing his thing too
No thanks
Proves once and for all........the drummer makes the band....OK take Ringo out of the Beatles
Zzzzzzzz
It is a great tribute to the legacy of Spys that this covers band chooses to cover such a great song. However, its’ a bit disingenuous to take their name. Just because the original drummer is in your band does not make you Spy vs Spy. Seriously, just change the name of the band.
Yes but Mike was on his own keeping the band alive. No one had a problem with that. To me this line up is the Spy's as best as we can have it. Give them a go. No haters.
I hear what your saying but actually there was a lot of angst when Michael took his first line-up out post Spys (the Mark Cuffe iteration). I remember it well and for the record I'm not hating on this. Just pointing out, like others, that in my opinion at this point it is a tribute band, like it was with Michael's line-ups.
I hope Craig hasn’t watched this tripe 🤢
He has...
He actually went to their rehearsal shack a few months ago to drop off the bassists new axe...
Garbage
Great to see you back behind a drumkit doing that thing you do so well.. 🫶
