Wow,hopefully this is our beautiful Lady, last two seasons were kinda sad, let's pray Mrs Wig will have a lucky season... Thank you to the guide and Lady Hawk for sharing! Blessings to All😇🌷🌷🌷
Hi Catherine - no unfortunately last year's chick - called Twiglet did not survive. After walking a short distance from the nest we never saw again and was way too young to fledge. Wild Earth found the Wigs in 2019 and that year they fledged one chick named Sebwig. In 2020 they had one chick named Owlivia who disappeared. Hopefully this season will be successful for the Wigs!!
Yes it is Karen but we can never lose hope! The Wigs are very determined to raise a family each year and they never give up so we can't either!! Birds do sense when a particular nest is unsafe and they may end up picking a new location all together. I have seen that with other raptor nests. This nest is not in the same location that the previous nest was located. We will have to see if this location is safer for their chicks. ♥
Hi Karen you are very welcome!!! They are beautiful birds and I fell in love with them the first time I saw that snow white little chick!! I am hoping that this season will be successful for the Wig family! ♥
They do face challenges but we can't say that they have lost before they even started. Nature is amazing and they have raised chicks to fledging in the past. Some nests have more difficulty than others. If the owls had a nest in a tree, it certainly would be safer but that is not an option for them. Their species continues to survive even with these conditions.
Hi Linda - a wiglet and a twiglet ♥♥ They are such beautiful birds I hope it goes well for our Wig family this season as they are such great parents!! 🦉 ❣
What a beautiful sight to behold. I'm so glad to watch Mrs Wig sitting beautifully on her ground nest ready to lay her precious eggs. 💕🦉💕 I wish Mrs and Mr Wig a successful season. 🙏🥚🌱🐣🙏 I love these owls with all my heart. 💘 May God bless and protect this precious owl family. 🙏🙏 Thank you so much for this wonderful coverage, Lady Hawk. Much love, blessings and hugs to everyone and everyone here. 💙🫂🙏🥰🥰🙏💕🦉💕🙏
Yes! SO MUCH THANKS TO LADY HAWK! I'm so glad to see The Wigs again! This is wonderful! Always think about Twiglet now and then! Enjoyed that little fluffy blessing so much! 😍
Hi Silvana ♥ Thank you for your wonderful comment and for being here to offer up your blessings for their new season! 💞💞💞🦉🦉I keep hope alive in my heart for these dedicated and committed owls to be able to raise their chick to fledging and be able to fly and hunt together as a family unit. This is such a blessing to have another opportunity for new life and joy to spring forth! 🌸🐥💞 Take care and God bless you!!
Hi Matrix yes they can and do adapt to the challenges that they face. They have picked a new location for their nest perhaps sensing the last location was not safe. The location seems to be one of the biggest factors in the success of the Spotted eagle owl success of raising a family. ♥
@@ladyhawk Last Year I discovered Mrs.Wig for the first Time.Dear Lady 🦅Hawk, this World you are showing us, is such a beautiful and fascinating one.Nature is the most valuable things we humans have to recharge our energy. Let's going and discover beautiful new things every day. That's what life is for! AND the stupig things......We simple ignore. 3 Chicks for Family WIG. 😉
We just recently watched our nest of Snowy Owls in the Tundra of Alaska. Mom and dad successfully raised six little 'cuddle puddle' owlets!! (thanks for that reference LH - I will never forget it!) Anyways.. Lest I get off track here.. The Alaskan Owls also nested on the ground and were able to keep the chicks and themselves safe from predation. I also am curious about the nest failure here in the last couple of years.. Can I have more details about the Wig family in past seasons? Is there tangible hope for them successfully raising chicks this year? Mrs Wig is gorgeous btw😘 Thanks to the guide and you LH ❤️🥀
Hi Kathleen yes there is tangible hope for them to successful raise their family this year. The terrain and the amount of wildlife here in Sabi Sands South Africa versus the tundra of Alaska are virtually night and day different and that is why the snowy owls can raise a brood of 6 owlets to fledging successfully & the Spotted Eagle Owl has difficulty raising one chick to fledging. In S Africa, the indigenous wildlife stay close to all rivers and the owls have chosen to nest by the bank of a river that flows with the rains. That brings several species of animals right up to the vicinity of the nest - such as leopards, jackals & honey badgers. The nest failures for the past two years here happened after the owlet was several weeks old and had just started walking around the nest area. It is thought that once away from the nest, the white owlet stand out and is more apt to be seen by predators. The guides come to check the nest frequently and never were able to find the chick afterwards. Then the Wigs left the area so we knew something had happened. During the time Mrs Wig is brooding her chick, it was safe from predation. The first season, the Wigs successfully raised Sebwig and he was seen flying around which was exciting to watch. So yes the owls can raise a chick/chicks successfully and we do hope that this season that will be the case. ♥♥ If you want to see more on the Wigs family - check out my Wild Earth playlists: ua-cam.com/play/PL0-7F1kaaUC_cgtkJziuik44TMnLFdbpT.html AND ua-cam.com/play/PL0-7F1kaaUC9TEgPQ67DNUeLfDWXBucsq.html Take care and have a great evening!! ♥

If they consistently nest in an area that's predatory, can they not adapt?
Hi Matrix yes they can and do adapt to the challenges that they face. They have picked a new location for their nest perhaps sensing the last location was not safe. The location seems to be one of the biggest factors in the success of the Spotted eagle owl success of raising a family. ♥
