Shane is so real for coming on the Amusement Park Rides podcast and saying he wouldn't wait 60 minutes for any ride and doesn't care about them at all.
Honestly, same. I like theme park rides like at a 6 Flags or the fair, but the line lengths people regularly wait in at Disneyland are ridiculous! (Love their set designs, tho)
I think the reason Shane chose this ride is because its the closest you can get to a lazy river without getting wet lol
You might be onto something here
Omg you're so right
ok but the que line actually USED TO have themeing, but they got rid of it a few years ago, probably because the line is never long enough anyway.
they used to have a statue of a robot holding newspapers, i think he might've talked at some point but was eventually muted over the years. and then there was the phone booth where if you picked up the phone it would be all sorts of alien buisnesses like pizza planet or sonny eclipse's agent.
The people mover is such a great spot for a bit of relaxing and people-watching. Also watching fireworks from it is pretty dang fun.
The people mover is only a legend to me as a Disneyland native…I used to think it would’ve been a lame ride but I can totally see myself just kicking back and enjoying it after a full day
I know they're Cali boys now but it'd be really cool to see this series expand to other parks like six flags and cedar fair (if they've ever been)
It's Shane, ya boy!
If my memory serves me, the 65 minute wait time in 2019 'might' have been contributed to issues WDW operations was having at the time with keeping Peoplemover operational. There were rumors that WDW was having issues with sourcing replacement parts causing the ride to be down for weeks.
PeopleMover is unequivocally a World Class ride. Would never get off and just enjoy the day if I could.
I agree Ryan. I would love to go to one of the World Fairs. They had to be amazing to witness in person.
Y’all have to talk about Hagrids magical motorbike adventure at USO!
The last time I was at Magic Kingdom, I waited 16-20 minutes. I was there during spring break and the park was packed. But it was nice to sit down for that long ride!!
As a young theme park head, I love hearing about the PeopleMover - I didn't get to go on it in FL but it's on my to do for the future!
Every time I’m in Magic Kingdom I always go on People Mover. It’s just something you gotta do.
Love the people mover. Miss the Disneyland one.
I will always champion getting there at rope drop, it always lets you finish everything you want to do and have extra time too
My first memory of Disney was going with my grandparents. It was the only vacation we took with those grandparents. My grandad had his video camera and filmed everything. Including me getting my leg stuck in the habd rails of the train. I was stuck for a long time. I am still embarrassed almost 40 years later.
people mover seems to be the lazy river of Disney… that tracks
The PeopleMover is basically the Chicago "L"
I'm so glad that living with the land was mentioned in this episode. I also know people who went on it repeatedly lol.
Hehe Ryan said "nutritinous" during the Green Chef ad hehe. 9:18
That made me unexpectedly giddy.
I’m blown away that they talk about fun facts and mention “it’s never been replicated, right?” And don’t talk about how WED literally sold the Peoplemover to places. The only one still around I know of is in the Houston IAH airport and how they didn’t find that blows my mind
It's me. I don't know any of these rides, I just like listening to you guys talk😅
I wanna see an episode on cedar pointtttt
someone tell byron to bring back the mustache its been his best look
The guest looks like Edward Norton.
You guys need to have Disney Dan on the pod he’s the best
Of course shane knows the world's fair. H. H. Holmes and Walt Disney immortalized it in different ways
Can't believe Jenny allowed Shane to take this topic
53:29 "OPPIE"
The trouble with classing the People Mover as World Class is that there are many rides around the world that could pass on the same points, but you've probably never heard of them, purley because they aren't at Disneyland. For example, the mini-monorail at Europa, which has the added bonus of actually travelling around most the park. Yet you wouldn't be persuaded to visit Germany for that ride, any more than I'd fly to Florida for the People Mover.
I still think it's a great ride, and deserves the credit it gets.
Great show BTW, I've watched all of these to date!
the wait time section is called Average Weight Times and I went to the other videos to see if maybe that was an in-joke or a bit and then realized this it seemingly the only video in the playlist which is broken down by section lmfao. so is it a typo or some themepark lingo or in-joke i just dont understand 😂
Fun episode. Did Byron just say “for all intensive purposes?” 🙄😆
Oh you guys gotta get Disney Dan on the show. If Ryan has an issue with Shane's lack of enthusiasm wait until he sees Dan's OVERenthusiasm lol
I disagree hard about the phone test. Every time I go there’s a wait for this ride and the queue sucks.
LOL I commented too soon
I’m the person that watches these without knowing most of the rollercoasters. I just like how enthusiastic you guys are about talking about them.
Me too! I live too far away from any park to know anything about them
Same!
Yeah same here, I have never been to any of the attractions they’ve talked about so far
Hate Disney tbh but love this podcasts’ passion
Same.
Gentlemen, please know that regardless of what the view count may suggest on some of these episodes, this podcast makes a specific group of people extremely happy, and I hope you never stop making it. As a major theme park nerd and a huge Watcher fan, this pod is music to my ears. It is perfection and all that I could ever want out of a podcast, and I will tune in to every single episode you guys make for as long as you make them. Seriously, this pod fills a hole in my podcast-viewing/listening life that is massive, and I very, VERY much appreciate the work you guys put in to make these for us.
I watch various pods that cover some of my various major interests in life, but I have never had a dedicated theme park pod in my rotation at all, despite me having a huge interest and love for all things theme park related. I mean, I consider myself a huge theme park nerd in basically every way. Obviously theme park nerddom is a smaller sect of society, but those of us who love it LOVE IT, and you will always have a group of extremely loyal and supportive fans who love everything about this show. Plus, I don’t think I could choose better hosts for this topic on a podcast if I tried.
I will be a proud viewer of this show as long as I may live! It truly is awesome, and you guys are very much appreciated!
I'm commenting to say I absolutely agree!
I love seeing Byron try to keep the show on track while Shane distracts Ryan and Ryan just tries to keep his shit together 😂
Ryan and Shane seem like an old, constantly bickering married couple and Byron is their exhausted, long suffering adult son
😂😂😂😂
Saw that the topic was the people mover then saw that Shane was the guest and it all suddenly made sense
Literally my exact thought process
The only other person I would expect with this ride besides Offhand Disney
exactly what i thought too lmao
also, on the topic of Disney Dan marathoning this ride... he really deserves to be a future guest. that would be hilarious and entertaining!
I bet hes coming down the pike
I bet we'll be able to hear him coming! @@bustedkeaton
I've probably been on the people mover at least 150 times because I lived 25 minutes away, and I can't visit the Magic Kingdom without hopping on for at least two cycles. I'm disabled and also a theme park person, which doesn't typically mix well. Standing in lines for a long time can be painful, and I overheat/dehydrate so fast. The People Mover has always been there for me, and I think every theme park should have one attraction like it.
Awwn, yay!!
I discovered this podcast two weeks ago, and binged every episode in a day while working. Now I cannot get enough and am so excited every tuesday. So refreshing to get the funny and informed opinions of people in my age range. Hope this continues for a long time!
FUCK YES. I don't care what conclusion yall come to- the people mover is world-class without a doubt.
Shane being a trumpet player checks out lol
Right?? Do you find a lot of band teachers being trumpet players, too? I only have 2 examples, but haven't known too many band teachers.
Shane is actually stress testing the logical cohesiveness of the world class attraction test with the peoplemover
The old married couple energy is off the charts 🧡👍🏻
ryan, a grown man, giggling like a little boy whenever he says "premature detraculation" gets me every time 🤣
less than a minute in and ryan and shane are already fighting
Okay who is responsible for that cursed thumbnail?
Did y’all have to keep offhand Disney from breaking into the studio?
I’ve been to maybe two theme parks in my life but this is still one of my favorite podcasts even if I have no clue what y’all are talking about half the time
Absolutely loving the pod! And I think Shane should be a recurring guest because you can’t beat the vibe with the three of you together.
i worked at peoplemover when i was a cm so i was excited to see this week's topic was about my old stomping grounds! people would trip and fall all of the time, that's a big reason why we carried e-stop buttons on our wrists. also, a few times a week someone would jump out of the train and start running down the track and we would need to evac. which sucked because the TTA is cranky and old, and was a bitch to get started again once it stops moving. the rule was you could let people lap it as many times as they wanted as long as there wasn't a long line. also there are cameras and we would know if you were hitting your vape in the tunnel ;)
Ryan not understanding that we’re just little gremlins that will watch literally anything with his face on it despite our knowledge level of the topic is hilarious. Man doesn’t understand that he has a low key personality cult following
shane is so real for never waiting 60 minutes for a ride, as a flight of passage ride attendant myself i too, would never wait that long for that ride or any ride 😭😭
"I Want to Address this Right Up Front"...Byron takes a breath, leans back and smirks. He knows he's going to have to be the adult in the room.
Won’t lie, never had chance to ride any of the rides mentioned on any of the podcast but by the enthusiasm, history and fun facts from everyone on show , I feel like I have experienced it as much as you can without having ride the ride
Honestly, this series and Puppet History are my favourite things Watcher puts out. I just adore hearing people geek out about the things they love.
I'm with Shane, I don't want to wait more than 30-40 minutes for any ride. If I do, it will make me like the ride less because it won't feel like it was worth it. And I go to Disney World every year, so it's not like I hate theme parks. I'm there for the experience and waiting in line is not an experience that is fun to me. Hell, I could go to Disney World and not ride any rides, even go into any of the parks, and have a great time.
I’m similar, but I think I got this way from going to the theme parks fairly often. The more I go the less I’m willing to wait on an attraction because I know there are some bangers that have really short wait times like the people mover.
ryan's got two mugs???????? i was wondering why there were 4 mugs for three people.... turns out bergara's just extra thirsty
Just here to say, I was never interested in theme parks and haven't been to any but this is one of my fav podcasts right now. I came over from just enjoying the Watcher channel content and decided to give the episodes a try and I just love it. I love the formula of the episode, it's a nice familiar thing to come back to every time. I'm now even interested in theme parks a lot more and love hearing about the next one. It's cool having the history and fun facts about each as well. So overall don't comment much but just wanted to chime in with that :) Looking forward to more episodes!
(I know as an introvert I would love this ride)
That’s pretty cool to know even someone not caring about theme parks could very much enjoy it, glad you are learning and gaining an interest in this, glad you joined us all over here :)
As somebody who used to work main gate, it was under 3 gets in free but parents lie all the time and we couldn’t exactly ask for proof. Best tactic is just as the kid directly how old they are. They’re always thrilled to say they’re actually four and we smile and point them towards the ticket booth
snitches
my dad was at the 1964 world's fair as a wee lad (he was born in 1961). he forgot this until he went on it's a small world for the "first time" when *I* was little, and he got deja vu. He also saw the original Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and adored it. He currently studies the American presidency.
That is such an awesome experience thank you for sharing
Thumbnail is terrifying. thank you for another podcast🙏🏻
Completely agree that I wish it went through the whole park. The railroad goes through the "outside" and its just not the same
I appreciate everyone giving the people mover some respect here. As a Disneyland gal I didn’t go on it till my 20s and found it insanely charming
I just realized -is this the theme park version of a lazy river? No wonder Shane likes it.
I love Worlds Faires. The world still has them, the US just isn’t involved anymore.
i’ve been to disney world around this time of year before and i can definitely say that the 40 minute wait time is accurate lmao
The Peoplemover has entered this whole new era where its become fairly popular. As much as I miss the days of yore when it was a straight walk on, I'm glad its finally been getting the respect it deserves
The thumbnail for this one 😂
Omg. Thank you Shane. As a fellow midwestern-er. Yes. Disney World in Florida is like a 5 star vacation for us midwesterners 🤣🤣
Clearly “What ride would you live in?” is a Top 5 Beatdown topic!
(or something to that affect)
Of COURSE Shane played the trumpet. Also, as soon as Shane entered the picture Byron became the third wheel (again).
I want them to do Office-style exit interviews for the third parties. Shane and Ryan are on a completely different radio frequency than other people and it's great.
@michelle6337 that would be amazing! I'd watch the shit out of that
Them repeatedly joking about how uninteresting the topic is:
Me, whose already watched several other 40+ minute videos on the people mover specifically: 👁️👄👁️
only a few minutes in but the people mover is a world class attraction next question
When you're going rope drop to close the people mover is a godsend for a midday nap. People mover, spaceship earth, nav'vi river journey, the perfect relaxing break in each Park. Hollywood Studios used to be the great movie ride but now I nap at Lightning McQueen.
Surely the Magic Kingdom napping place of choice should be the Carousel of Progress? It’s just so dark and soothing in there. It’s the perfect place to get out of the heat and relax for 20 minutes.
@HerHollyness I can't. I love it too much to want to nap. It is a must-watch for me every trip
I was at the World's Fair in 1965 but I was only 9 years old and that's almost 60 years ago so I don't remember a lot.
There hasn't been an episode in 2 weeks...I'm freakin out 😰
I eat this shit up every week
i get so excited every week when the episodes come out!!! the peoplemover is such a great ride and i would love if you guys covered the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride that used to be at wdw!
also u guys should make merch lmao
Peoplemover was my favorite ride in WDW for over a decade. They changed the audio last year and it slipped a bit in my rankings. Still a top 3 ride though!
Elias Disney was a construction worker for the Chicago World's Fair.
Shane was in heaven at the end. 😂❤ World class for sure. 💯 Its on record. 😂
I guess they realised they forgot to insert the sponsor segments in the Jenny Nicholson video because there are so many sponsor bits in this one! 😂
The PeopleMover is a good take-a-break ride after Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin.
When are y’all going to Canada’s Wonderland!?!!!!?
Review tyme covers celebration really well or maybe bright sun films did it, I forget now but super interesting.
EDIT: Rob did it on midway to mainstreet but I coulda swore someone else did a longer look at it…
There is a PeopleMover called Subway at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport near Houston, TX.
Wedway Peoplemover was one of my favorite rides as a kid in the 80s-90s. Definitely a world class attraction because everyone loves it and would have some nostalgic appreciation of it.
Oh this is gonna be a divisive one for sure
Listening to Shane say all the sickos live in Celebration in my apartment in Celebration
No mention of the legitimate Peoplemover in the Houston International Airport that was also built by WDI?
AHHHHH I LOVE BYRON’S MUSTACHE
Fun fact about the longest wait time day: it was a marathon weekend. Presidents’ Day weekend is always the FRICKEN WORST because marathon and the three day weekend
This is another amazing podcast! So excited to watch!
Shane's answer about the wait time is deeply Midwestern. We don't wait in lines.
I like watcher but they ruined their momentum by taking watcher weekly off of UA-cam and putting it behind a pay wall. WW was just friends hanging out and now the pods feel too work-like
Finally, the GOAT podcast talking about the GOAT attraction at WDW
This podcast continues to my new favorite and having Shane as.a guest was a delight as expected. I will say that as someone who got into Disneyland/World relatively recently this did pretty much perfectly represent the weird devotion to the People Mover that I've encountered so much with the diehards online that always baffled me a bit. I think it would be neat to see it in the new form mentioned in Disneyland Forward but the many people I hear begging them to bring back the People Mover always struck me as odd. I don't think you all convinced me of its world class status but I had a great time listening to you try. Keep up the great work!
