God I love this show.
I like to think Jaspers not even upset that they’re accusing him of things and he’s mostly just upset they went through his stuff.

I literally cracked up when Jasper is talking about all the other vampires think its all about being fancy and spending money, and Victoria Nelli and Victor all just look at each other like "yeah"
You know, it’s so hard to picture Jasper as a wretched monster when he’s being compared to puppies and labradoodles. I just think he’s adorable now.

I actually feel more for the Nosferatu than any of the other characters. Didn't think of the newbie vamp "extreme privilege" until this episode. I just applauded her trying to maintain her humanity, especially with the Brujah emotional problem.
Meanwhile Tzimisce Revenants turned Cainites who never understood the concept of the path of humanity.

I honestly adore Alex's portrayal of Jasper. He manages to provide a humanity to a character that is, in essence, a monster.
I love it. Jasper, X and Annabelle are my favorite.

My first thought was.. Tara sired by Jasper? Nope, They'd never mistake her for a human being. Also Victor's costume change is priceless, I actually laughed out loud the moment I saw it.

@@brettsymons604 The Nos curse does indeed increase with blood potency (the higher the blood potency, the uglier you end up getting, and blood potency increases with age among other things, sure). But usually it's bad from the very get go.

I don't think they released his Character Sheet that reveals what Generation he is (If they did, give me a link, I'd love to read their full character sheets, not the partial ones from the wiki). For all we know, he could still be a childe of Zelios. He certainly has a dot in the Descendant of Zelios loresheet.

I'd imagine he'd begrudgingly take on a lot of the duties of a baron out of necessity while not really doing the whole "do what I say or I'll kill you thing"that others tend to.
Speaking of Bloodlines... Tara is the one who took over as the Prince of LA (as well as San Diego praxis) after LaCroix's unfortunate end.
Btw, Nines is effectively the baron of LA, whether he likes ir oe not all the responsibilities of a Prince without the tools.
Alex's willingness and commitment to the Majesty effect was quite impressive. Well done.

Being someone who has loved Bloodlines, but never played the tabletop, and watching the beginning of this I couldn't help but laugh when I imagined how interesting it must be to be a Storyteller and have your players randomly growl and hiss at you lol. Also LOVED watching Jasper lay it all down in the beginning.

Realistically speaking if you were to leave the Anarchs on their own they would be wiped out by humans in a matter of months (besides the fact that they're not even true anarchs, the way they're structured they're more like a less organized Camarilla with Barons instead of Princes).

In v5 the Anarchs took control of many cities since Cammy elders fucked off to the east for "plot reasons", that's why the inquisition is much more active now.

I remember when I first read VTM as a tween back in the 90s and thinking it was wild the Cam didn't want to use phones, and the young Anarchs were all about modern conveniences.
But now the Anarchs being like "yeah, let's just live stream our immortal selves through apps that sell facial recognition data, use GPS to go to our secret hideouts, and talk about killing people in group text" knowing what every millennial knows in 2019 feels wild. Like, they literally know the feds know at them by name and were getting tips off from a salty old man neophyte, who's suddenly going missing, and they're more trusting of social media and the cops than my parents.
I dunno, I'm starting to the Cam and shovel heads were right, at least about going old school off the grid. Really curious how, rather than if, this stuff is going to get them in trouble in S2 as the Storyteller seems to keep taking notes based on Group chat.

I mean with the use of VPNs, end to end encryption in chats, limited usage of classic social media networks and reliance on the Dark Web for intel can make technology a little safer. Then again, the case for vampires being in control of the media can explain why vampirism hasn’t been exposed yet.
Vampires can’t just be in charge of the classical media outlets, social media would also be spearheaded by them. Kindred can basically erase known allies from monitoring systems. Easy as that.
Now I think this concept will be addressed in Bloodlines 2 as there was an ARG based on a Tinder-esque dating app for vampires to use in order to easily hunt prey.
You can be smart about these things and there's something to be said for hiding in plain sight. Remember the second inquisition are a secret, they use the camarillas discretion against them. If they start killing public figures, bombings etc that's noisy and might draw eyes to their grossly inflated budget and sweeping powers.
I will honestly say that *as* a gen z’er it’s really fucking common for us to joke about murdering people and make weirdly elaborate plans on how to do so. It’s this attitude of ‘eh the feds are already spying on us, what they gonna do?’

You would be crying too if you were tranbsformed against your will, your life totally destroyed, three weeks only being a vampire in a new dark world you only start to understand, traumatized by events, by what you've lost, by what you ares experiencing and wittnessing, and the new sensations and impulses that dominate you; she's lost. I see a lot of stupid criticisms of Anabelle's character when in fact she is played with exquisite mastery according to how the character is, her context and situation, before she died she was partly a social worker, with a lot of empathy, and now she doesn't know what to do; you people seem not able to understand her background and how all of that plays an important role in their actions and feelings as a new born vampire; If you're role-players, you're really pathetic.
Jasper is such a sport. I loved that Moonwalk attempt.

The thing I find most fascinating with Jasper, Nelli, and Victor is that while some of them don’t outright say it, (Nelli, I’m looking at you) all three of them *want* on some level for Annabelle to prove them wrong. To prove that you can be a monster in body but not in spirit. That there is some measure and means to balance power and respect among the undead. Keep it up Annabelle. For their sakes as well as your own.
I for one cannot wait for the new story for our coterie, and see what all sorts of deliciously dark trouble they can get into. What a lovely way to start the new year of 2019!

annabelle is to naive to live in the kindred world, the only reason she is alive is thanks to nelli, jasper and victor. otherwise her "human" nature would had make her get kill fast. she's to young too, maybe if she was 1 or 2 centurys old she would be more willing to kill for survive. but seen her as someone too attach to a human world that she doesn't belong anymore is something that will make her suffer and possibily end up giving her the final death.

He wanted to retain that 'heart' that made what it means to be human. Yes, you can screw up, but still strive to be better. She would or at least could be the conscience of the group. Talk about a quandry. And talk about interesting plotlines. I can hardly wait!
Julia Taylor An excellent point. One that Victor has brought up in the previous episode. She still has heart, and despite what others like him and Nelli say, it’s not a weakness. There will always be that part of them that wants that, which is why they like and love Annabelle so much. And I believe in what Carver thinks of Annabelle; she can do great things for herself and others. I do agree that at some point she will have to kill to protect those dear to her, but she already declared that she won’t be the weak link that gets herself and others killed.
I’m so looking forward to see, however small or large the possibility is, of her becoming a Grey hero so to speak. One who tries to be better, but when push comes to shove, will not hesitate to destroy those that threaten what they love. Hehehe.
@@esteban20969564 Well the universe is called the world of darkness for that reason. Annabelle turning out in the future as a fallen angel of sorts , would be a fitting and poetic ending to her journey. Which is why I don't see her getting killed ,as far as story purposes goes , now if the player can't keep playing for x reason , that is another discussion. Unfortunately as a storyteller for 15 years , characters getting killed because they can't keep playing , happens to most of your players lol.

When Victor tried to wheel and discuss, whilst Nelli used Rapid Reflexes to put the knife to the imprisoned Kindred's throat and Annabelle cried out, "What are you doing?" - I feel like that really encapsulated the characters. Victor trying to reach a middle ground, Nelli cutting to the point without hesitation, and Annabelle trying to moralize something clearly wrong such as this Kindred hiding secrets, but being blinded by the fact that she's been imprisoned.
I wonder if they would have all reacted the same way if Tara had been I dunno Thomas instead?

Honestly, not a huge fan of when people force characters to do things, but this is Vampire, and he took it in stride, so props to him! Jasper is definitely one of my favorite characters though.

I've watched the first half of this episode over and over again on Alpha. There's some stellar role playing and character stuff going on, and I love Jasper calling the others out on how STUPID they were to believe that he had embraced Tara. Derrick Rencher Well...Nos culture is relatively unknown to the other clans. Like their Warrens are closely kept secrets, how they gather and spread information is unknown. I mean how would anyone not a Nos themselves know Tara was lying right off the bat? They met a werewolf down in the labyrinth, and even the two who’ve been around the block for a while had little knowledge about Goru lore, or politics.
The only reason WE know they’re idiots is because we know all about this stuff. But the characters Annabelle, Victor and Nelli don’t.

I started with episode 5 to watch Taliesin. Quickly realised this was no ordinary roleplay show. Went back to episode 1. So glad I did. I ended up subscribing to Alpha and watching the whole series over several days (including the wonderful epilogues).
The character interactions in LA by Night are just a joy. I expect that quite a bit of preparation is needed to keep the improv humming along so smoothly, but it hardly matters that it all seems rather more tightly scripted than, say, Critical Role. I mean, how else can you confidently declare the name of the episode before it even begins, unless you have a pretty clear idea what's going to go down in what order? But this isn't a criticism. I love it! You can really see the difference that an actor brings with all their physical presence, even when the focus isn't on them. It's absolutely compelling to watch these guys do their thing. And Jason Carl just ties it all together perfectly. Bravo!
By the way I think some of the best scenes are in the epilogues, especially between X and Annabelle. X goes from crazy to deadly serious in a heartbeat and it's just electric. I could watch him all day. Can't wait for season 2. Such inspiring storytelling! More please!
Yeah, I didn't really mean 'scripted' because obviously it's improv. I meant more that the actors (esp the minor characters) and storyteller appear to have agreed in advance roughly where the plot is going to go and the general scope of each scene - at least much more than Critical Role, which can and does go off in crazy unexpected directions. Both approaches are great of course, but I do love the bias that LA by Night has towards being in character as much as possible, and I suspect that to really make that work you need to know roughly where the story is going and your character's role in it. I'd be really interested to know from Jason Carl just how much plot and character development they discuss as an ensemble.

I would describe it as the Storyteller having a tighter control over the events, in contrast to Critical Role where Matt gives them a map of the Dwendalian Empire and now they go wherever they want.
Also the titles of the episodes are pretty vague so it's not really a constraint when you as a Storyteller know the types of challenges you're gonna put against the players and name the Chapter accordingly.

@@crypto1223 They were 1 hour episodes that followed the main story arc. Eg in the first season the first epilogue is referred to as episode 9: ua-cam.com/video/20mT4SdZIQo/v-deo.html . I actually subscribed to Project Alpha so I could watch all the VODs but then Project Alpha went away just before the final epilogues of season 2 were aired, so sadly I've missed those until I can sub on twitch and find them there. Eventually they'll arrive on youtube as well. They're gradually posting season 2 at the moment on the youtubes.
@@TessLowe As a minimum, Jason tells or hands out some information to players between games, and then during play they go "I've got a tip..." BUT. Speaking from experience playing and running Vampire games like this, I say it is possible that they don't discuss plot and character development before the games at all. If you played Vampire at least once, with at least some of the same people, you have the intuitive understanding where it all is going, and what the etiquette at the table is, and how to try and stay in character, an play off each other. And the V5 edition rules explicitly require players to agree on "group tenets" before the first game. But then again, this being a show, maybe they do discuss plot/character development in detail in advance. In any case the result is wonderful - a smooth performance of great inter-character dynamics!

This episode was absolutely amazing. Alex playing Jasper is just the best. The lines he comes up with are GOLD. I was laughing multiple times from every character. The storyline is fantastic. I'm super glad I found this, well done guys and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of this, I don't want to catch up too soon though.

I’m surprised Annabelle wasn’t more pissed about the slaughter of innocent people at the end there.
That would require moral consistency which she clearly lacks because the night before (last three episodes) she enjoyed a kindred in a collar with a leash then proceeded to beat him within an inch of his life, then got upset when a kindred who looked well taken care of but was locked in a cage basically losing respect for and faith in Jasper who has been nothing but kind and caring for her even when he tells her he was just following orders to do so but she went to bat for the two human agents who were intent on killing all kindred for just 'doing their job.'
I think they still say this: "Victoria is f'ing hot."
