I love when the depiction of an alien actually seems alien and strange and not just a bipedal monster with fangs.

One thing I liked was the fact that Jean Jacket was seemingly extremely hesitant to target the balloon. Most likely due to the experience with the horse statue it ate and couldn't digest. This strange giant thing was shaped like it's human prey and had eyes like its human prey yet, it was covered in those banner flags like the horse statue from before. It's learned that things covered in those banner flags aren't edible and might cause it harm. However, this strange human is just absolutely massive and too big of a meal to a pass up so it tries to eat it anyway.

Plus it was just about the same size as Jean Jacket. That thing it was doing with its eye? That's a threat display. It was trying to scare away the balloon. It was only when the balloon didn't react that JJ's predator instinct took over again.

@@gatedude07this is exactly what I think as well, the eye popping and booming like that is to intimidate its prey, that’s why it only pulls it out after it gets hurt (barbed wire fence being forced in his mouth), because that’s when JJ realizes these people are a threat, and JJ needs to show that IT is the real threat

    • @MisterEvvvSymphoenix
      @MisterEvvvSymphoenix Рік тому +273

The crazy part is* it's probably an Earth creature.
      1. *It understands when people and animals are staring at it* (though it can be fooled by eyes of inanimate objects). That means *it's designed to identify the eyes of many Earth-type beings,* so it's probably built to hunt such prey. There's no guarantee alien eyes would be the same.
      2. *It hides by generating Earth-type clouds,* which suggests it belongs in this environment.
      3. *It can fly in an Earth atmosphere, under Earth gravity.* Conditions vary drastically from planet to planet. An Earth bird can't fly in a Mars or Venus atmosphere, since the air there is much thinner than ours.
      4. *It generally survives and functions well in an Earth environment.* Most creatures are specifically made to survive their native world. We can't breathe anywhere else in the solar system, as far as we know. Jean Jacket seems perfectly fine.
      5. *It's clearly not very smart.* It behaves like an animal. Even the ability to tell when someone's staring at it seems instinctive, since it can't figure out the difference between the eyes of an animate object and an inanimate one. It can hide, but that's likely instinctive too. It never does anything to show that it can think on a near-human level. That means there's no way it's smart enough to go to another planet and figure out a way to survive. It doesn't even have technology, as far as we can tell. Unless it's naturally super adaptive, another alien put it here, or it naturally propagates across planets (however that works), there's no way it could live here without being a native. It's just not a well-documented species because it attacks people who stare at it, and it hides too well. That means most photographs of it can only be taken safely at a sub-optimal distance, when you're too far for it to notice you, hence the blurry UFO photos most people get.

Later, after the gang was trying to take picture of JJ and it tried to devour Angel Torres AGAIN, but this time Angel had barbed wire wrapped around him. JJ swallowed Angel, pricking/snapping & popping noises go off as JJ spits Torres back out. It was injured, scared and incredibly enraged. It unfurled into it's "true" form as retaliation, attempting to assert dominance over it's smaller, weaker, but more cunning prey. The green square it was flaunting violently (which is it's eye organ) at OJ was, I think, an intimidation tactic.

2:55 Jean Jacket comes up to meet the cowboy balloon, which is floating still facing the creature. It makes it look like two wild West gunfighters about to engage in a fast-draw duel. Given the film's background setting and the director this was likely on purpose.

I feel like personally it was a mating sort of dance like a peacock, because it was floating like Jean and after no response from the Cowboy balloon, Jean decided to eat/kill the potential "Male Suitor", as if to say females are the larger more dominate on their planet or in their solar system. But unfortunately it appears as an aggression tactic before this scene so this is ruled out but still cool to think of the movie in a different way/plot, 'The alien came here looking for the last male of her species last recorded here."

JJ is definitely my favorite monster in any media. Despite it being far from the strongest creatures in any media, hell it's probably on the weaker side of all creatures, JJ is super interesting. I love the design but I'm not gonna talk about it since other people already have. What I'm gonna talk about is its intelligence.
It's smart, but not human smart, more like animal smart. It knows where and when to hunt/eat. It knows that in order to catch its prey it must be patient and blend in with its surroundings, an ambush predator. Unlike most man-eating creatures in any media where it seems like they're either too super smart or way way too aggressive like they have some kind of rabies.
JJ is also smart enough to avoid places with thousands of humans. So, instead of big cities, JJ chooses to live in a big desert. But ofc just like any other animals, JJ isn't that smart, like the part where JJ eats the fake horse thinking that it was real or like in this video where it eats a huge as balloon and dies because of it.
Speaking of dies, I love that JJ is not some kind of invincible creature. We just don't know what its weakness is. All we see is a giant flying disc and so at first we're all under the impression that since it's a UFO it must be hard to take it down since UFO = high tech that humans don't understand. But later on we learned that it's actually a creature, so seeing a creature that big flying on the cloud makes most people under the impression that it's invincible or at least hard to kill.
But at the end of the movie it just died because it ate a balloon, and so it turns out that it's not that strong. I love that more than a creature that is seemingly impossible to kill. JJ gives us an illusion that it's hard to kill when in reality it's not that stupidly overpowered. The only reason why it hasn't been dead sooner is because of the protagonists trying to catch videos or pictures of JJ.
So yeah, that's why I love JJ. Sure it's not as big and scary and powerful as any other men-eating creatures, but man everything about it is just so cool.

One of the creepiest things about JJ that you mentioned is it avoids large cities with thousands of humans, and instead picks up stragglers (like the missing hikers briefly mentioned and were heard screaming overhead before Keith David's character died in the beginning, or if provoked like what happened with Jupe). That means, at some point, JJ and/or other creatures like him may have been feasting on large scores of people until something happened that caused JJ and/or the possible rest of his species to be wary of going after cities.
If the government has been keeping JJ and possibly others like him a secret, that means there was an underground system of people that have been trying to train giant flying people-eating creatures from the skies to not overindulge in hunting, when they could have at any time... 0_0

Also, lets be real, that cowboy balloon is pretty big, so the force in air pressure exerted from being detonated while inside the sheet monster's bowels ? Yeah, i can see now how that would be sufficient enough to tale it out permanently. 3:22 I wonder if someone has a speculation or theory on why the square pulsing shape changes angle once it gets close to the balloon for for a brief second. I think it's similar to an intimidation tactic, warning it to back off from its territory. Though honestly it could be anything, but the form just seemed like it was a very defensive form after multiple times nearly getting choked by flags and barb wire

@@ExileOfSand I understand this is what people seem to speculate most often that it's for intimidation/stress. I'm more specifically curious why it would change the angle of the square "organ" to a diamond.

JJ represents entertainment and spectacle. His frontal teeth looked like a camera, it's body shape like a woman gown or theatre curtain. It's ufo form is that if a cowboy hot, the same setting of the film hence the first video featuring the actual footage of a man riding a horse in loop.
The point of the movie is a low-key criticisms of us humans going such a full length for spectacles. We capture beautiful animals and dispose of them if they are no longer needed like how we treat a poor dog if it's no longer cute or returning to it's animal instinct.Gordy, the horse and JJ were being used by people for spectacle and ended up all dead.
It's also an indirect tribute to tilikum the killer whale in sea world in my personal opinion.
