  • Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam candidly discusses her feeling of relief while golfing, in contrast to life at home with a failing marriage that led to a divorce in 2005. Later, Annika shares the story of reaching out to Mike McGee and their eventual connection, a slow start to dating and their marriage in 2009. Mike joins the conversation and offers his take on why the relationship works so well, including what he learned from his mom’s approach - as she also married a golf pro.

What a lovely guy for a special lady. And they obviously adore each other. Not always an easy thing for a guy to take the back seat. I have over the years to encourage my wife to study and become a scientist, and I'm so proud of her. It hasn't all been one way either, she supported me in the early years, when i was trying to become a pro footballer, but her achievement means so much more to me than anything i achieved.

Thank you Annika, it's been an absolute treat!

Honoured? Me too. I watched a walrus with only one flipper play the US Open (mens) one year and, gosh, the challenge, the inspiration as it waddled around the course, struggling off each tee... it was so very inspiring, it really was. All true golf lovers appreciated the event, naturally, because anyone who doesn't cheer a disabled walrus along is, well, just a horrible person really. What next for you Alan - the golf for coma patients national championships? Wow, I bet that would be so exciting to watch, especially for TRUE GOLF FANS, right?

I love how she reflects and is thoughtful in her answers. She never trashes her ex or says negative things about him in all these years she rarely speaks about her divorce 16 years ago. In fact she even says I could improve I blamed myself. There were rumors that her ex turned into a lousy husband was drinking and spending her money and maybe cheated. Who knows what the whole truth is. She is classy enough to not say much about that marriage if ever. She is happy and has a beautiful family. Good for them.

Best wishes for both of them. Being number one in the world means having to have a me first outlook. Many people think they understand that, but living it is quite another thing. This gentleman seems to understand that and knows the role he needs to have to make the relationship work. I hope they remain very happy together.

The people offering negative comments about this story is because they have no idea that the roles of the sexes can be exchanged to a certain extent and both partners remain happy. He knew who Anikka was going into the relationship. He doesn't seem to be the type of bloke with a weak ego. He obviously had a certain level of success in his life before she came along. If she found a guy who can handle how she is wired, then good for her and hang on to him because they are rare and possibly truly loves her. And if not, then all this is unsustainable. Being Married for nearly 25 years, I can safely say that Marriages are work in progress. There will always be storms on the journey and only 2 things happen, both find a way to survive and hang on to each other or they just quit. The average years a marriage last, at least in the U.S., is 5 years. My parents are now on their 55 year of their marriage and I can attests that it was not always an easy road for them but they always found a way to forgive each other no matter what.

As an admirer of the elite (even female professional athletes) in all facets of all societies, I obviously watched the attached video. But I also remember an article Sports Illustrated wrote about Annika in her heyday. In it, among other things, the writer made reference to her six hour practice sessions (I was flabbergasted). More humorously, the wordsmith described how Annika always portrayed herself as being shy, yet she had just recently completed numerous interviews with various news outlets! Well apparently Annika (and her husband) still isn't timid about revealing her personal affairs. Perhaps this interview was just a stunt to promote Annika's involvement in one of the recent LPGA events. I'm quite certain that neither Annika or her spouse will soon be buying Tiger's yacht, PRIVACY. More garbage on the internet.

She was very shy as a teen and early college. So what she practiced 6 hrs a day when she was younger in her prime. She didnt have kids and was young in her 20’s and 30’s big deal. People go to work 8 hrs a day all the time. No different that was her job. Almost all pro athletes practice 6-8 hours a day, like any job. Why would this flabbergast you? @@liz9886 "Almost all pro athletes practice 6-8 hours a day" - Well, with the exception of perhaps Bryson Dechambeau, I don't know of any pro athletes who practice that many hours - if they did, they would start to suffer from fatigue very quickly. Golfers could be one of the exceptions because they don't have to be very mobile when practising. Baseball players might practice 45 minutes/day (think batting practice and fielding practice). NHL hockey players probably average around one hour a day of practising - the same as basketball players. NFL football players probably practice the least at top speed because of the "pounding" they endure on game days. All these professionals need to be in top form during their games - practising 6-8 hours a day would definitely not allow for this. However I will grant you that the modern professional athlete engages in lots of strength training and film work but I don't consider these activities as practice - and neither should you. What are you even talking about? Faked it? She missed the cut by 2 strokes along with 20 other players. She knew going in it was going to be a huge challenge playing from the back on a very long colonial course. She had media and crowds and pressure the likes she had never seen. She embraced it and did her best on a course she never played on. I applaud her for trying and not being scared to do so. She is a class act. She showed a lot of people she can play really good golf. Her nerves were there, and I am sure it played a role but good for her for battling through it and being brave enough to try. She knew she wouldnt hit it as far off the tee. Women are clearly not going to hit as long as the men, not as strong. But she played pretty well overall. She learned a lot and showed class and grace snd poise. @MarkJones-hc9pf 3 роки тому

@@liz9886 Another gender studies rah rah fan I see. The whole media circus claimed she belonged there; the fact is she never qualified and missed the cut. That simple. Of all the courses on the PGA roster, Colonial was the shortest and suited her most. And she still didn't make the cut. It is played because it was Ben Hogan's home course. Had she played a far more typical course, it would have been far more than 2 strokes. The comparisons with Babe Zaharias by feminist media were both clumsy and offensive: Babe actually qualified against the guys and very much belonged out there. Annika slithered in on a cheap sponsor's exemption. Another fact by the way. The media that week constantly quoted the men out of context - deliberately and manipulatively. It was a sinister misreporting. You obviously drank the Kool Aid there sunshine. For example, Vijay Singh, demonised in the left mainstream press, never just said what they quoted him as saying. The full quote had a clear rider, and it was this: if she qualified. He was not opposed to a woman out there by any means, but like so many others, he expected her to earn her place like anyone else. She never did. This is a fact; it certainly isn't classy. Enjoy your next Pride Parade. I don't begrudge the woman using a media circus and a tacky nothing of an event staged for media frenzy purposes to top up her retirement account. So what? But the way the dishonest woman continually, even now, keeps playing the poor woman me victimhood complex nonsense just proves what a cheap nobody she really is.
