- Roots is back, with record breaker and World Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sörenstam as she returns home to Bro, Sweden.
The mini-documentary series charts the stories of different stars of the game of golf and the unique environments in which they grew up, as we travel to Sweden ahead of the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed tournament, a one-of-a-kind mixed event hosted by Annika.
In this episode, we visit her home, meet her family and hear first-hand about her upbringing, unrivalled career and the importance of her life away from the course and her legacy in the game.
Annika reveals how she used to deliberately lose golf tournaments to avoid speaking in front of an audience, until her parents stepped in to force her to speak in public regardless of the result so that she would overcome her fears, starting her on a path to success that surpassed anyone’s imagination. We hear how her first major victory, at the 1995 US Women’s Open, kickstarted the most successful career of all time, giving her the confidence to secure of 90 international victories and 11 Major Championships.
Despite all of her achievements on the course, Annika’s family and legacy are what means the most to her, describing her children Ava and Will as her “Grand Slam of life”. We speak to her parents, sister, husband, children and early coaches, as well as visiting an ANNIKA Foundation event in Halmstad Golf Club to see the visible effect of Annika’s impact on the game of golf, not just in Sweden but all over the world.

Male or female Annika is one of the best golfers in the history of the game. She completely dominated the LPGA very similarly to how Tiger did on the PGA Tour. Not only is Annika an elite amongst the elite but she seems like an incredible kind and wonderful human being. Mad respect for this special woman.
Sadly she couldn’t get to the White House quick enough on 7th January 2021 to accept a medal from Orange Face.
@@peadargill7565 Of all things you could have written in her honor this is what you chose to write? Speaks volumes regarding the unhappiness and hatred within your own spirit. How unfortunate.

what a beautiful family...gave me chills watching this.
The most respect for this wonderful family ❤
The smoothest swing ever, no one is even close
Charlotta is always very supportive. It can't always be easy hearing how great Annika is, but she always keeps her cool in the public eye, knowing the greater goal is moving women's golf forward.
Very insightful view ....keep up the good work with all them young ladies ....
And a tip of the cap for all that you have achieved..true inspiration..
The best ever. A better person. Will always be my favorite.
Beautiful, thank you 🙂
Annika is an amazing person, extremely humble but yet extremely successful. I think that says it all.
Awesome documentary 👏
Amazing woman
She is without a doubt not just the the best female golfer of all time, but she is one of the best golfers ever, male or female. Cheers.
Mickey Wright. Look her up.
@@bernardsamson9565 I am very familiar with Mickey Wright, but it doesn’t change my opinion. Cheers
Those were the days. Don't watch many sports now days. But back then-Annika, Chris/Martina, Tiger was worth watching
Nice too see you. Keep the faith.
Great feature!
I meant to tell you how wonderful this is. 😊
❤
The thing you should be most proud of is that you’re a beautiful person…………
Legend tigress
How does Annika Sörenstam feel about the way the Swedish Golf Federation and the DP World Tour have treated Henrik Stenson? I suspect she's appalled.
Respect to Annika as a great but I had to laugh when I hear twenty-something LPGA members call her the GOAT. It’s a prime example of the “recency” phenomenon, wherein the LPGA players of today are only aware of what they’ve experienced and have no knowledge of what and who went before. Annika had 72 LPGA wins with 10 majors and more or less retired at 38. The real GOAT had 82 LPGA wins with 13 majors and retired at age 34. And with the old equipment and the wound ball, she actually hit if FARTHER in the fifties and sixties than Annika ever did at any point in her career, using what Ben Hogan(!) called the greatest swing in golf. The true GOAT: Mickey Wright.
Forever to be remembered for choosing to fraternize with Trump. Being Swedish, in Sweden everything else went lost.
No way Annika is the GOAT. She was clearly the best player of her day, but not the GOAT. She shortened her career to start a family. That was her choice and that cost of from being the GOAT. Mickey Wright #1 for me. Annika top 3 at best.
Agreed. Annika is definitely in the debate about being the greatest, but we can't take away Mickey Wright and Kathy Whitworth's accomplishments. They just happen to be in different generations.
Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson said Mickey Wright had the best golf swing man or woman.
My High School was named as one of the most violent, predatory and sexually sadistic schools in the history of modern Catholicism. I wonder how many students Annika knows who attempted suicide or actually did suicide? And then we got to go home, to more violence and more mental abuse. Congratulations Annika, that is quite a struggle to the top.
That was a weird comment, who focus on that?
@@smilingcopycat I'm sorry. My point is that she had a "upbringing" some of us didn't. I'll delete the comment. I was deeply depressed when I wrote it.
I had breakfast with Annika many years ago in Svalbard. She was delightful and she shared with me her love of moleskin trousers. Mad respect for that
