Then to get the different sizes, they just do some basic maths and call it a day. They don't bring in a larger or smaller model to make a better fit, they essentially make the numbers up. In other words, they make clothing that's designed to fit exactly one person and if you're not that person? You better hope the god of maths knows your exact body type.

This is why I love thrifting my clothing. Yes it takes wayyy more time but the cost is much lower and I usually find more stuff that fits me at thrift stores than I do in most regular stores. Plus, if it survived long enough to make it to a thrift store, it's likely relatively well made although there are definitely exceptions to that rule since I see Shein crap at thrift stores a lot.

I would go to this one resale store called platos closet and I would be there for like 2-3 hours when I would go on rare occasions and spend so much time trying on shirts, bottoms, skirts, dresses, rompers, maybe jackets and bralettes depending on weather, but I would usually walk out with maybe 15-30 items on a good run. I remember one time I had a holy grail run and found 6 pants that fit in one go, it was awesome.

I feel this to my core. Vanity sizing is a bitch. Bc that shirt is also a small in one store, a medium in the other, an XXL on an Asian website and a children's dress in the next section over 😭
God I hate Asian sizing . I bought a bunch of 4xl and 5xl stuff from an Asian website and it was all too about a large or an xl in a normal size . Seems like it’s even worse for women .
@@drbosommd Usually websites have a sizing chart thing. What I do is I measure out my body, write down those sizes, and when buying I check each website’s size chart for what size I am there. Bought many online clothes, all have fit well.
As a male I struggle with this as well. Adult male large shirts don't have enough tail, and it's constructing in the shoulders. Getting stressed probably isn't the best thing to do though.
The first time I saw a plus size section in a store I almost cried. That was unheard of when I was young. This was sized for global sales but used Asian adult large measurements. You need a size specific to American adult large. :) My 5'8" 130 lb female Chinese friend told me she has to shop at oversized stores in China but buys small or medium in USA.

OH MY GOD SOMEONE FUCKING SAID IT. Like I don't wanna sound like a pick me but this is why I get my tshirts from the men's section, because EVERYTHING in the women's is cropped now!! And then the smallest men's is like an XL for me so it's a lose - lose all over😖
Having a daughter has actually made me realize how ridiculous our sizing is. She is 10, a competitive cheerleader, very very fit and athletic. She isn’t even tall or large for her age. She wears a size women’s extra small or small. Today she went to school in a Calvin Klein fleece I gave her that was a size large. It wasn’t even that large on her. It made me realize that as a grown woman if I’m wearing a large or an extra large, I’m doing just fine. I don’t care to be the size of a 10-year-old.
I used to wear a size 10 panty - after losing 81.6 pounds I now wear a size 12 in a Fit for Me Brand. I bought a Barbra’s Longerie brand size 1X panty. After losing the 81.6 pounds I now where size 3X panty in the brand. Don’t even get me started on Shadowline snd Vanity Fair. When I was in high school I weighed 80 pounds and wore a size 6 panty. For dresses in the finer shops I wore a size 9-10. Now being that size puts you almost into the L. or XL CATEGORY. As a kid you could go into May D&F, Denver Drygoods, etc and always wear the same size no matter what store you shopped in. Now it’s a Crap shoot to find what size you will fit in even the same brands! Let’s not mention that real walk in stores barely exist anymore cuz everybody shops online from Amazon, Walmart, and the crappy Chinese garbage bins. Everything has to be returned at least twice before finding a half way good fit. Catalogs for plus size women are filled with poor quality fabrics and even shoddier sewing !! What is a woman to do?? I can’t afford $400 - $500 dresses, coats, pants, etc. It is discouraging to even try looking!
I’m an extra small but I am not the size of a 10 year old. My stepdaughter is 10 and she is waaaaay smaller than me. I’m quite thin: 5’8 and 122 lbs. She is like 70 lbs and like 4’5ish…… almost no adults are that small fully grown 😅
This is the reason I solely buy online now. I can view the actual garment measurements and know with absolute clarity if said garment will actually fit. An additional perk is not having to take a billion trips to the changing room. The exception being shoes.
It depends on brand, location, and materials A different country will have a large be a small in a different one Certain materials don’t stretch as much so bigger sizes are needed
That's why I shop the men's t-shirts. They have way cooler prints and they are customizable! With a little sewing you can have a shirt that fits you perfectly!
This issue is exacerbated 10 fold when you try buying clothing online. Not only have I paid extra to get it sent to me, I now have to spend even more money to send it back again.
That’s why I read the size chart for each website, already measured all of my dimensions so I pulled that up and looked for which size fits me. Stores have different sizing charts, so it’s important to make sure for each one. I haven’t had to send back anything.
I've found it much easier to buy on ebay with measurements. As long as I can identify Chinese sizes vs American sizes, I can usually have as good a fit as trying them on. But, before that Chinese sizing conversion was clear, I ended up with a number of doll's outfits. 😂

It could be an Asian import. A study of sizes in the world the rule of thumb is that North America tend to _say_ that shirts are one size smaller than the exact same shirt in Europe, i.e. a Small in the US is a Medium in France. In the summary I read, both South America and Africa were conveniently left out, as well as every country between Europe and east Asia.

OMG its ridiculous, I’m extremely short (5’0”) and have been this same height for the past 20 years, and I can not even begin to explain the bizarreness of clothing sizes I’ve experienced too. First of all, are all pants are made for people with the worlds longest legs?? Because I’ll be wearing the “short” or petite length and still mopping the floors with the hems 😭 What gets me the most is that I have clothing from the literal child’s section that is BIGGER than a women’s medium. A child Large top is usually equivalent to a women’s M/L in everything but length. I have even some medium kids tops that are bigger than XS and Small womens. And don’t even get me started on denim shorts with numbered sizing 😂 I’ve got 4 pairs all different sizes - but fit exactly the same. Ridiculous!
You should go buy men's cloths. A lot of my female friends do that. Cheaper, more durable, better cuts, etc. I don't know if women judge other women based on that, but guys won't. They'll just be "fuck yeah! you look comfortable."
My husband's family loves to buy clothes for gifts and they would always ask for my sizes... 'It's complicated, which type of clothes, which store are we talking about?' It took a few years but they finally stopped asking.
I remember going to a store a few years ago, and seeing a sweater I liked. I tried the small, it was too small. So I tried the medium, still too small. Then I tried the large, and it was still too small. So I held the large up to the small and they were virtually the same size.
Tell me about it! I saw a pair of pants the other day marked size 16. I thought it was a mistake on the hanger and looked to the label - STILL 16. Then I held it up against a size 0 and the cut matched exactly. 🤦🏻♀️

As someone who shops mostly on line it’s crazy trying to determine the fit of most garments. Even when they put a size chart it still doesn’t match up to real sizes across the board. I’ve found one jeans style which I now own in 8 variations, and they still don’t all match up in rise, fit and length. Your tailor is your friend.

This is why I taught myself how to sew. I hated shopping.
Can you recommend a good channel or website? I really want to do this, too! Any guidance is appreciated. ✌️
My husband and I are literally taking sewing classes right now lol Love it so far!
Annnd this is why I shop secondhand. Sizes mean nothing in a secondhand store, I’ll just grab whatever is available
Yes!! I just bought the most amazing jacket yesterday. It's a women's jacket in medium.
I'm not a medium, I'm fat and usually get large or whatever number of x's will fit me in that style.
It fits perfectly and I love it so much.
high raise jeans fix that problem... and every top seems to be cropped these days
I honestly always forget my size or for some reason my size is always different (I think my weight fluctuates but different brands also just have different sizing) so I end up trying on whatever fits me anyways.
I honestly have found a much higher success rate shopping for jeans at Goodwill than buying anything new, ever.
i love your hair like this wow
I only like shopping when I don't actually need something, its not too hot and not busy in the shops. That way even when things dont fit I can just get a different size until something does and if I go home with nothing that kind of better in a way 😅
bruh women’s clothing is meant to make me have an emotional break down every time i even LOOK AT A CLOTHING RACK
Poor baby!
Then you should look into calming techniques or youre gonna have a heart attack when you're 60 from stressing over CLOTHES in your 20s. It's not a big deal. Stop equating size to your self worth. If it fits, it fits. Try stuff on, and buy it and leave. I literally jist buy kids oants because theyre less expensive than adult. Not a big deal. It's not stress worthy. If it doesnt fit, try another size. No big deal.
@@sporks3256 they're exaggerating. Calm down
Men’s clothes are the same way so don’t worry
It’s stressful af. Can’t even count on a size range anymore.
As a plus sized woman I gave up and am now making my own clothes.
Absolutely! I do this too. Seems like all the printed t-shirts I wanted were always way too small and it made me sad & self-conscious. So I decided if I want a printed t-shirt and its too small, buy it anyway! I can play with it and make something else! Turn it into a different shirt, bags, fun shorts, whatever I want. I make a skater dress out of 7 different anime t's that wouldn't have fit, and I love it. Make what you'll love! ✌😁💜💙💚
I think that’s awesome, I always wanted to do this!
Call me cringe but, Yasss queen, slayyyy!
Why not just lose weight? Respectfully
ugh I really need to learn to do this too!!! you're awesome + I'm so jealous!
It looks really cute on you though!
I had the opposite problem recently! Went to a store to try on some pants and some how for that specific brand I had to size down 2-3 sizes to get anything to fit?? Sizing is wild
Even as an overweight girl, I have shirts that range from a women’s small to XL depending on the company but when you hold them up together they are all the same physical size 🙃
just say ur fat it's fine
OMG its ridiculous, I’m extremely short (5’0”) and have been this same height for the past 20 years, and I can not even begin to explain the bizarreness of clothing sizes I’ve experienced too. First of all, are all pants are made for people with the worlds longest legs?? Because I’ll be wearing the “short” or petite length and still mopping the floors with the hems 😭
What gets me the most is that I have clothing from the literal child’s section that is BIGGER than a women’s medium.
@@aq421they said overweight. That literally means fat 😂
@@aq421 In what world was that point of her comment? Are you lonely? Do you need a hug? Is this your crappy way of dealing with your shit life?
Double checking that it's not a children's size is so relatable
I'm a 5'7 man who wears XL t-shirts. I feel your pain.
This is addictively good content.
If someone ask me, I have to say I'm a "old navy large but a Walmart Medium" 😂
“I’m going shopping for you! What size pants do you wear?”
🤯 *broken modem noises*
My husband's family loves to buy clothes for gifts and they would always ask for my sizes... 'It's complicated, which type of clothes, which store are we talking about?' It took a few years but they finally stopped asking.
I always have to ask someone to look at my tag I'm wearing, but they're all different lol. What is it today?
It's like that with a lot of men's clothing too, it really varies with brand
I remember going to a store a few years ago, and seeing a sweater I liked. I tried the small, it was too small. So I tried the medium, still too small. Then I tried the large, and it was still too small. So I held the large up to the small and they were virtually the same size.
Fat

Had you bought it it would have shrunk the first time you washed it.
Tell me about it! I saw a pair of pants the other day marked size 16. I thought it was a mistake on the hanger and looked to the label - STILL 16. Then I held it up against a size 0 and the cut matched exactly. 🤦🏻♀️
@@samu-chand1ck
I bought a shirt from Vans that was labeled as an "oversized" tee and I got a size large. It looked like your shirt.
As a man who's 6' 1" I feel your pain. To get T-shirts that are long enough, they have to fit like a tent. And don't get me started on pants; in five years I've only been able to find three pair that fit and two of those are too worn out to wear in public.
I love you so much.... you make me smile every time I see your videos. Thank you for making my day better.
I love her and her chaotic energy
Same!
Either way it looks great on you, tshirts never look that cute on me 😭
I, too, perform the raised arms test on sizing 😂
I absolutely love that you bring to the public all the little things hiding in the dark corners in of our lives.
LITERALLY !! And then they vary so much depending on brand or style or direction off the wind that i hardly ever know my size, and since i despise dressing rooms it makes it that much harder to buy clothes ever
Direction of the wind 😂 but no you're absolutely right! It's so frustrating!
jeans are the absolute death of me. i have a size six pair that are too small and a size four that are too big. LIKE WHATTTT
Your hair looks amazing btw
Im 5’11”. I really don’t want to flash my underboob just to reach for something on a shelf. Stop cropping EVERYTHING lol and like maybe all manufacturers follow one size guide maybe? 😑
Us tallees just have to wait till the next oversized/long length trends come back 😊
They can’t all follow one size guide, especially if they are in different countries. Some Eurasian country woman are so small that our extra small is their large.
I'm only 5' (but very very busty, like an H cup) and I buy my short sleeved tops in "tall" when it's offered online so that I'm not baring things I want to keep private 😅
@@arualstarr h cup sister lol
RIGHT?? Omg, I'm 6'1" and literally clothes? What are those? Don't even get me started on dresses!
I AM LITERALLY DEALING WITH THIS RIGHT NOW.
Same weight, same measurements, yet somehow I went from S/M to L/XL depending on the brand.
I'm a guy, and I have this same issue. There is no consistency in sizing between brands. It's very hard to find clothing that fits my body properly.
Look up vanity sizing its also a problem in the retail world and each brand may have a different model depending on where the clothes are made. Although I do agree within retail stores the clothing has changed as my sizing in has change as well but the opposite use to be about a 1-2X in women now its a large while im still a M/L in mens, This is at walmart though not sure about other chains
@@joslinnick Same i don't understand why this is a gendered thing....
@@molkereis8626 because 1) a good amount of men don't seem to care about how well their clothes fit so long as they aren't falling off them or ripping when they move and 2) day to day, women are more likely to be judged negatively for wearing clothing that doesn't fit perfectly, while men can get away with sloppy dressing.
men don't tend to have to worry about their clothes not being the right size, while women need to consider the fit of the clothes every time they go shopping, meaning that more often women will notice the different brand;different sizes thing and complain about it.
I'm shopping for my wedding right now. I bought two shawls for the wedding party. My Bridesmaid is tiny and is usually a small - medium sometimes XS. Her shawl was bought in L because that's what the seller advised and it was still too small and mine was an XXL when I'm usually a M - L sometimes XL if they run small. I re-ordered from a different seller and hers was ordered in a M and mine a L and now they fit and we have a good amount of room, they're comfy and as a bonus we can move our arms and breathe properly! It's insane.
