Best live band ever. And I've seen everyone from the Dead to Phish to Slayer to the Rolling Stones to Galactic to Metallica to The Roots to Stockholm Syndrom to Pantera ... THE BEST.
I was listening to an Ian Mackaye interview on a podcast recenlty, and he was talking about how influnced he was as a child by the classic performances of the Who and Hendrix in the Woodstock film. This belongs up there with them. Pure unscripted energy. The essence of rock n' roll.
This is the best Fugazi song. Guy performing this song always reminded me of his Rites of Spring days. The intensity (not that he didn't have it in other songs) was just...I don't know, I always looked forward to this song. It was usually the last song Fugazi would do if they played it that night.
+Shio Almighty Believe it or not I coordinated a nationwide paper petition in record shops back in the day before online ones (1999-2000) to get Fugazi to tour Australia. After assembling it all and sending it to them, they politely responded with a "Fugazi will do what Fugazi wants." Which was a fair enough response. I've still never seen them live.
So, the first time fugazi pulled through Austin, TX May of '89 (Liberty Lunch r.i.p.); they played 'glueman,' guy crawled under Brendan's drum riser to do a backflip from the backline monitor to land on his feet. This clip from the VHS /DVD, 'Instrument' is from a later period in fugazi's history-barely touches the earlier period of fugazi.
I have seen fugazi live 3 times. All when I was in high school in the early 90's. here in Los Angeles. I only have 2 favorite live bands. Fugazi is one of them. Glue man is my favorite song.
Fugazi does not exist in-between the Dead and phish in my best estimation however they did define the 90s and continue to pass the test of time. Thank you
I spent it all on the bag On the drag The sun comes up, the tide rolls out The trucks roll by the park Still a park where children play and pick up stones Anything to make them feel less alone He's alone His mind is his own town Where all his thoughts run aground They fall all over and down I spent it all on the bag On the drag The sun comes down, the tide rolls back We crawl our way back to the house We call home He holds his home in the palm of his hand And he says, and he says "You are my everyone, you are my anyone You are my anytime, you are my every time You are my everywhere, anywhere..."
Back when Future Islands were on letterman for the first time, people were going crazy about the singer’s performance…by this time I had already seen fugazi and multiple punk bands etc..I was not impressed by th guys rehearesed, practised, same every time he does the song delivery…so I showed people clips of Guy Piciotto to show them what real intense energetic unbridled live performance looks like…
Soo amazing... this band is all about music, talents and passion. Giving all you got every night, jamming between songs. I think this is the best live video I've ever seen. There can't be more energetic performer than Guy Picciotto. I have the instrument DVD and recommend it to every serious music fan, thanks for this!
It's just funny to see people get so stoked about Fugazi. Not that they weren't badass, but we used to see them as often as we felt like it, usually for $5 with other bands that could actually not get totally imploded off stage by them. Early 90s Los Angeles was *not* a bad place for music.
@Sensoriexpansion69 I must respectfully disagree, only to the level that they never reached the mainstream by their own design and admission. I heard Ian Mackaye speak at F&M College and he told everyone how they turned down a record contract from the guy who signed the Rolling Stones, and they attracted this attention because Repeater sold 250,000 copies. Not bad for a completely DIY band, wouldn't you say?
Glueman was always an end of the set finisher, in the late 80's they still played it faily near the end or in the middle of a set. But this was the last song :)
I get goosebumps no matter how many times I see this. I feel bad for people who never saw Fugazi. They were something special.
Hope they will never reform.
I'm with you man, privileged to of seen them live
I was lucky. I got to see them at the Congress in Chicago but by that time they were “checked out” but it still was an amazing experience.
@@christopherzucchero4447 saw them do repeater and songs like waiting room and glue man really on top of their game the energy was out of this world 💥
Me! I never did 😭😭😭😭 One of the top 10 bands I will regret forever not seeing live 💔
This shit is the truth. Every time I watch this my heart starts racing, and I sweat a little. The guitar work is transcendent.
yeah, love the guitar playing. It's like this punk player was influenced by Randy Rhoads
urgh if only i'd been smart enough to find them in my teens! we were made for each other. Put that he loved FUGAZI on my tombstone
I cry instead
Can you imagine the blisters Ian must have gotten from sliding up and down the neck of his guitar so hard during this song?
Ian was such a sweat machine when they played live that he was probably well lubricated.
@@itsMrNobleSweaty ass fingers like his probably rusted his strings so fast
Straight edge but he always looks like he's rattlin. Great stuff !
This is the greatest god damned video on UA-cam. Ian is absolutely destroying the neck of his guitar with those slides, lighting them on FIRE
future historians will assume this is how we discovered fire....
'swhy his picks were always destroyed
the intensity is off the roof, it’s like life gave him bath salts for this performance. Insane
Enrique Moreno funny you say that, cuz he was dead sober for this. all of them were
man this is fucking raw
Best live band ever. And I've seen everyone from the Dead to Phish to Slayer to the Rolling Stones to Galactic to Metallica to The Roots to Stockholm Syndrom to Pantera ... THE BEST.
alice in chains back inda day with Layne?
Yeah? Well I have seen everyone from Bob Dylan to Guns and to Megadeth to Iron Maiden to The Who to Red Hot Chillis to Run DMC and I call shit on you.
I didn't like Stockholm Syndrome the first time I heard them, but after being forced to listen to them repeatedly they became my favorite band.
@@MrRhurbarb Who gives a shit who you've seen. Fugazi is better than almost everyone you listed.
@@michaelgraham9774 I give a fuck and you give a fuck too. That is why you are so jealous.
Pretty under rated drummer! Dude can really beat the skins.
Same drummer from Guy’s other band Rites of Spring :D
Spot on man. The best part, Brendan Canty always played as he feeled appropriate. He never cared about praise or fame. The way it should be.
Bubb

This performance is the very definition of the words "intensity" and "integrity." No Rockstar egos, here!
guy sets himself on fire spiritually. ian is god tier in this performance. brendan and joe holding it down. so much respect ❤️
They fucking go so hard and they don't even touch drugs.
Please dont use Thrash n Fugazi in the same sentence
I'm 48 years old and I'm sitting here wondering how I've missed this band all this time... Got right into my soul... Thanks
Yeah sex pistols suck
nunca es tarde
Best Fugazi performance. Guy Picciotto giving it all!
They must return...
Gabriel Werneck lets start a fucking petition or something
That would be great Shilo Almighty
Shilo Almighty Yes! I too enjoy fucking petitions. All those signatures get me so hot... But seriously though folks, let's bring Fugazi back!
+Ian B I honestly don't believe that they could return. That's sad, but we need to try something to remember them of the band.
+Shio Almighty Believe it or not I coordinated a nationwide paper petition in record shops back in the day before online ones (1999-2000) to get Fugazi to tour Australia. This riff is so nasty in the best way possible.
Check out monitor by the banshees.
Was really lucky enough to see Fugazi live 4 times between 89-95... just a phenomenal band!

Holy shit ,how the hell did I overlook these guys all these years ......this is great !!!!
No one right now is as visceral and powerful as Fugazi was...man, I'd kill to see them LIVE!!!
i would die for being in such a band! pure natural energy!
That day Music was slaughtered by a massive wave of perfect distortion.
jesus christ, guy. where do you find the energy. always loved his live glue man renditions.
@Matias Asconeguy Raco nah
@Matias Asconeguy Raco you must be new
@MMAtias Asconeguy Raco Lol
Pure energy
It’s their rage against the machine (not the band) that fueled them.
The mighty Fugazi.
After more than 250 listenings in a couple of years I can say that I would have only wanted to be one of them during this performance. That's all.
I saw them many times. Every time was the first time and the last time.
No one ever asks me what punk music is, but if they did.....I'd play this track for them
Across the court! Gabe, the glue man, Degrosi
I have seen fugazi live 3 times. All when I was in high school in the early 90's. here in Los Angeles. I only have 2 favorite live bands. Fugazi is one of them. Glue man is my favorite song.
around the 2:38 mark you can see Ian get some grease off his nose before he goes into those wicked slides
The intro with the words and the song itself makes it all have an obscure vive
And I dig it
Man, Guy is going fucking nuts!
their best song.
i don't spend much time looking back, but what i wouldn't give to go back and see this song performed live. such joy.
is this the best live performance ever?
Amazing performance!!!!
Fugazi does not exist in-between the Dead and phish in my best estimation however they did define the 90s and continue to pass the test of time. Thank you
Without a doubt one of the greatest bands I had the pleasure to see live in Sydney,Australia.
My favorite live performance from them. Such energy!
So much better than the shit we are dealt now!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyone anywhere anytown now. ...wow nailed it as usual
Noise perfection
I was at this show. This was maybe the last song. Was pretty hair-raising transcendent psychedelic as you might expect.
your favorite bands favorite bands favorite band
I spent it all on the bag
On the drag
The sun comes up, the tide rolls out
The trucks roll by the park
Still a park where children play and pick up stones
Anything to make them feel less alone
He's alone
His mind is his own town
Where all his thoughts run aground
They fall all over and down
I spent it all on the bag
On the drag
The sun comes down, the tide rolls back
We crawl our way back to the house
We call home
He holds his home in the palm of his hand
And he says, and he says
"You are my everyone, you are my anyone
You are my anytime, you are my every time
You are my everywhere, anywhere..."
This is all you want for your band and your music .

This must have been very early in their set that night. They all are still wearing shirts.
Glueman was always an end of the set finisher, in the late 80's they still played it faily near the end or in the middle of a set. But this was the last song :)
