A kind lady in PA donated this kit to me as she is 4 years back logged with her other instruments and would not be able to complete the kit. I can't wait to hear what you think of my next piece/video! Do you have a favorite baroque piece?
Hello, I'm "like you", a classical musician (violinist) fascinated by baroque music. I had the chance to play this whole concerto 2 times in concerts in Japan last year, with a pianist. And it was fantastic! Although I play a baroque violin that was converted in 19th century, i always wanted to play it with harpsichord and baroque style violin (tuning, strings, bow, technique, etc...). Your solo version is very courageous! I know the feeling of playing and recording music written for an ensemble, but without the other musicians (same when I have to record for an audition to be admitted to an orchestra). Some ideas: Continue to practice, never give up, find other musicians to play with (you just need a string quartet and it will sound already "grand"), and listen (not to copy but get inspired) to my favorite version by the harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, which is not only a very good recording but also excellent to teach to let us know, as non professionals ua-cam.com/video/XcsfDxojdV8/v-deo.html and good luck!

I am going to try to find some string players or maybe edit myself playing both parts. I have never seen or played a baroque violin yet but I am fascinated and looking for one.
@@broquemusician this is definitely one of my favourite Bach keyboard pieces. I’d be very interested in hearing you place some Goldberg Variations on this instrument.
@@JacobDTulio In the future, I am trying to build "pull down harpsichord pedals" which will allow me to play the viola melody while simultaneously playing the hand-crossing section at 2:50 - 3:20. @@broquemusician Thank you for asking. The piece I am learning to play is Menuett from Notenbuch for Maria Anna Mozart K5. It is my first 3/4 timing and I find it difficult so I am very much a beginner pianist. My piano teacher is great she always gives me encouragement. I have listened to you playing the accordion as well. Thank you for sharing your talent. Blessings 🙏
The harpsichord does have dynamic, just no piano-like key sensitivity. The two manuals can be coupled, many harpsichords have the lute and/or 4-foot register, and you can play with legato, staccato, and, yes, overlegato. The latter can sound very powerful on a harpsichord.
Thank you for your support. I had a few questions. Regarding the dynamic of harpsichord, would legato/staccato, count as timing or dynamic? Also, I tried searching what overlegato is and count find anything, can you please describe some more about this? I am not a professional harpsichordist. I would love to learn as much as I can about this instrument. Thank you!
@@broquemusician It counts as articulation but plays a role in dynamic as well. If you press more keys at approximately the same time (when playing a chord or arpeggio) and you , your overall performance will be louder. Overlegato (or legatissimo) means that you hold the keys of the previous note(s) for a while before releasing them while already playing the next note. In contrast, when playing legato, you stop playing the previous note exactly when you begin playing the next.
@@broquemusicianhe guy means , that sometimes you could play it less legato, or simply lighter. I hear many times, how you hit the bottom of the keyboard. And of course it's normal , cz you only start to learn. Just saying that harpsichord likes more non-legato, light articulation. You can play non-legato, staccato, portato , articulation diversity is very important here, since harpsichord doesn't know what dynamics is. In some places, I would play some more freely. In Bach's time the text was like written improvisation , and sometimes you can breathe more widely to make phrasing more clear ( another aspect extremely important when u play harpsichord)
All very interesting! Thank you all! We can all appreciate the pianist desire to learn how to play the harpsichord well. Thanks for playing this wonderful and amazing composition. Well done!

@@broquemusician I dont really have a favorite song. The answer to that question always seems to change as the years go on. Im sure you will find a way to make this a full time job. You have real talent. Just go with what your heart tells you.
@@broquemusician You're welcome! I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to play one. I started out playing guitar though. 7-string bass is all I play now. I added new ornamentation in my new version please let me know which video you prefer! :) Thank you for commenting! ua-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/v-deo.html
@@broquemusician i would not ornate the basic theme (d,e,f), to preserve its identity.. yes any other
@@sergiogiudici6976 now that you mention it, I do agree, thank you.
Bellissima esecuzione che è molto difficoltoso eseguire. Si avverte un fraseggio distribuito sapientemente ed una stratificazione sonora e ritmica anche in strumento dove è risaputo essere difficile farlo emergere ed esprimerlo. Davvero bravo e ancora congratulazioni
Fantastic. I never actually heard it on a harpsichord if you can believe it as it is one of my favourite pieces by Bach. But really enjoyed it as well as your commentary. I agreed with you on the favourite parts. Will subscribe to hear more!
I really appreciate your support, I will make sure to post another video soon. what is your favorite baroque piece?
Wow this is an incredible recording! My new favourite recording of this piece with a Harpsichord, now we need you with an orchestra!
WOW! That means so much to me. Your favourite recording of BWV 1052!! I've never heard a compliment like this. Thank you so much!
I will try to remake this video in the future because this was my second time seeing a harpsichord and I wasn't used to the action of the keyboard.
I am trying to find a harpsichord to purchase so I can practice and post more videos.
I'm not sure if I will ever play with an orchestra, but I think it would be so fun!
What is your favourite harpsichord piece?
@@broquemusicianthats’s great news! Will definetly listen to that when it comes out. My favourite harpsichord piece is probrably the prelude and fugue in f minor from the well tempered clavier book 2. Their is a recording of glenn gould playing it on the harpsichord that i love and is a real feat of playing due to his fast and unweavering tempo. I also am a big fan of the toccata in E minor by Bach especially the fugue. What pieces do you enjoy the most?
Just realised i meant F-sharp minor not f-minor.
Thank you so much! Bach's writing really makes the harpsichord sing.
Thank you so much for watching! I made a new version of this piece. Please let me know what version you like more. :) ua-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/v-deo.html
Exelente tecnica. 🎶🎶🎶💯 Felicidades 🎈
I can practice viola part along your video) you're so amazing. Thank for this performance. It's the first time, when I've heard clearly only harpsichord without string orchestra. But watching your video it always plays in my head😄
Wow, this means so much! I need to make videos full time. Do u play baroque viola? 415?
@broquemusician ahah) not at all. No,I'm actually playing common viola. I just tunnig it to baroque A 415 Hz. In another words, one semitone down
You should post a video! XD
I can play this on piano if I find one. Do u prefer 440 or 415? And I’m also going to post a new (hopefully better) version of this in the next few days. I very new to harpsichord and I got much better.
How long have u played viola for? What is your background?
@broquemusician I'm amateur violist. I graduated musical school. Played violin and switched to viola at 19 y.o. I've been playing viola for three and half years)
Strong, satisfying performance!
Its got its own unique sound and its a beautiful instrument. Its amazing to hear actually what Bach would have sounded like.
Loved the performance my friend. I bet Bach could just hear the music in his head then just write it down.
I appreciate your support! I’m working really hard to get my own harpsichord so I can post more videos! I never thought I would love harpsichords more than piano.
@@broquemusician I just love the sound of the harpsichord and I prefer it to the piano.
I hope you do get one I would love to hear more music.
I found myself riveted, transfixed, hardly able to blink,, because of the depth to which your musicianship.brings this work of J. S. Bach's to life. I have clicked the bell and selected to be notified if you are so kind as to upload another performance of such high quality. Many thanks. PS I believe that you could well add some period-correct ornaments.
Thank you for such kind words and encouragement. I quit music for 6 years and just got back into it last year. I hope to make videos full time. I specialize in composing and arranging music on many instruments, but I do prefer solo or duets.
Thank you for subscribing! I never imagined having so much support before I have even started (only two videos out). I am working on many other pieces however I will definitely redo this video since I have gotten better at harpsichord now and I agree that there should be more ornamentation.
I am mainly waiting on purchasing instruments right now since the other instruments were lend to me. I also am working on building a Hubbard French Double from scratch but this will take a while to complete. A kind lady in PA donated this kit to me as she is 4 years back logged with her other instruments and would not be able to complete the kit.
I can't wait to hear what you think of my next piece/video! Do you have a favorite baroque piece?
I made a new version of this piece with more ornamentation. Please let me know what version you like more. :) ua-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/v-deo.html
What an accomplishment. That was fantastic!
in love with this version.
I also posted a different version! Please let me know which one you prefer :)
Wonderful. Thank you!
Some ideas: Continue to practice, never give up, find other musicians to play with (you just need a string quartet and it will sound already "grand"), and listen (not to copy but get inspired) to my favorite version by the harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, which is not only a very good recording but also excellent to teach to let us know, as non professionals

and good luck!
I love your comments! Thank you for sharing the link, I also really enjoy the video. Have you seen my new version of this piece? ua-cam.com/video/XpNP0cYcJPE/v-deo.html
I wonder which video you prefer. I am going to try to find some string players or maybe edit myself playing both parts. I have never seen or played a baroque violin yet but I am fascinated and looking for one.
My deepest thanks for this recording. Insane.
I appreciate your support. What is your favorite piece?
@@broquemusician this is definitely one of my favourite Bach keyboard pieces. I’d be very interested in hearing you place some Goldberg Variations on this instrument.
My favourite moment in this piece is probably that hand-crossing passage at 2:50 - 3:20. Bach’s creativity was absolutely off the chain.
@@JacobDTulio In the future, I am trying to build "pull down harpsichord pedals" which will allow me to play the viola melody while simultaneously playing the hand-crossing section at 2:50 - 3:20. This is how organists practiced their pedal work back in Bach's era where most people couldn't afford or access an organ.
あまりの素晴らしい演奏に感動しました。リピートして聴いています。JAPANより。
Owww. Amazing. Without doubts you will sound magical in bach suites and partitas.
Such a joy watch you playing this! This is a hard piece indeed but seems you're having a lot of joy playing it!
I'm working to make videos full time. I did have so much fun playing! I really appreciate your support!!!
The third movement is twice as hard as the first. Each passage is a new challenge

great to hear this as a solo, thank you for posting. Looking forward to more from you :)
I intented to listen couple of seconds then skip to something else, but I listenetd till the end. This is really great performance and unique arrangement which catches bachs idea of the concert and does not try to simulate all voices which is great.
It rare people listen to the end because it is such a long first movement! I really appreciate your support. I am currently building a french double kit that was donated to me so hopefully I can make videos full time. I compose and arrange for other instruments as well. Thanks for watching my first video!

Very good bro ! Beautiful performance and that Harpischord looks like new. Props to the restorer. We demand more Bach concertos and works !
I bought a harpsichord (spinet) that just came in this week. I hope to make videos full time starting this week. I will get more videos out there as soon as possible. (I need to order a replacement string and some plectra) Thank you for your support!!
Amazing brother, congratulations on the performance!
wow! i love this so much. i started playing piano and organ for almost 6 months now and until i have graduated highschool this was my goal. i got 2 and a half years left! thank you this really made me way more motivated!
That was my second time playing a harpsichord and it was a surprisingly difficult transition from piano. 2 and a half years is plenty of time! Enjoy high school while it lasts, time goes by faster after. This is forever one of my top 6 favourite pieces, please message me if you need any advice. Organ is something I've always wanted to get into (good luck on those foot pedals and fugues) but my main instrument is accordion right now because it is more accessable.
@@broquemusician btw your performance remind me a lot of glenn gould haha. I love it!!!!
I’m extremely honored that you think I even merely resemble one of my biggest idols, Glenn Gould. He didn’t play on harpsichord as much as piano but I’m obsessed with his Prelude and Fugue in F sharp minor video.
Excellent 👍

Thank you so much!! I'm working extremely hard to do this full time. I learning about better editing software and microphones. Please look out for more videos soon. :) This isn't my harpsichord, a colleague allowed me to play on his instrument in his storage unit.
As an older adult learning the piano, I am in awe of your playing. All your fingers seem to be moving at once, amazing. Thank you.
Thank you for watching! What piece or technique are you learning right now? Do you have an instructor or self learning? What is your favorite composition?
Just saying that
harpsichord likes more non-legato, light articulation.
Well done!

Thank you so much! Have you ever tried the lute?
@@broquemusician You're welcome! I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to play one. I started out playing guitar though. 7-string bass is all I play now. The reason I had it made for me was that I wanted to be able to cover the full range of Bach's 2 and 3 Part Inventions. I found that the extra strings make the solo violin and cello works easier to play.
Holy smokes! Wonderful.
