      Your Little brother is a legend to me. Now that he got fantastic Medical school I'm not surprised.
      I'm showing him to my Nephew who got into Yale, Princeton, Cornell , John Hopkins, U of Michigan..But choice to go to Yale.. However it shows getting into ivy's don't determine your future and if you get more $$$$$ from another top school go.

      Yup that's why some students are suing Harvard now for discrimination. You literally have to have better scores/stats than everyone (race-wise) is you're Asian, in order to be considered.

      Karabo Mohale you don’t know nothing about it. International students are barely offered scholarship for at least undergrad studies ok? Even if some scholarship was offered, there are two reasons - 1. The school is not among the top; 2. Scholarship is extremely limited, like at most 4,000-5,000 usd ( for private schools). Also, our tuition fee is much higher than you guys. For instance, an in-state student only need to pay 10,000 something for an annual tuition fee for UC schools and it is even without the scholarship (every state university is like the same), however, international students have to pay at least 45,000-50,000 usd for a year.

      @jamesmiddletonn 5 років тому +4

      Karabo Mohale complete lies if you knew anything about the admission style you would know that students with parents earning under the fees 45-62k usd Harvard pays for the students to attend Harvard. Research before spreading lies in the comments making poor people doubt themselves.

    Congrats Anthony! Getting it to UT's honor college is still a really big accomplishment so don't worry about the ivy schools they're not worth all the hype and the huge price tag anyway! and I'm sure you'll love it in Austin it has so much to do and all my friends that go to UT love it!

    Anthony, no matter what college you chose out of your acceptances, I'm sure you'll do great things. I think as Asian-Americans (I am speaking to this as I am one), we put so much pressure on these types of milestones e.g., getting accepted into Ivy's, etc. You overall seem like a great person from your videos; personable, positive, and so talented at violin! Best of your with your undergraduate career, and as someone just finishing up mine, I can tell you that you are about to be changed more in these few years than your whole life by leaps and bounds.

    Honestly the whole college admissions process, ESPECIALLY the ivies is just a crapshoot. I mean, I have a 4.6 gpa, a 34 act and 1510 sat with 800 on math II and 760 bio, and was a three season athlete and captain, all while getting numerous awards. Yet, just like you, I was accepted into 0 of the 7 ivy league schools I applied to (0 for 10 when including MIT, Stanford, and UChicago). Just hold your head up man, it's just based off luck when you get to a certain point. I will take my talents to Boston College and forget about all of the false hopes I had. If you work hard enough then it won't matter what school you go to anyway.
    Edit: I actually ended up enrolling at Boston University :)

      just cuz you were a captain of a sports team doesn't mean you are good enough for IVY. you prob were not well rounded enough for it, a lot of people with lower gpa's than 4.6 can get into an IVY, ivy's look at the whole package they have ton's of applicants and could care less about making money compared to the other schools

    bruh lol. You dont need to go to the best college just to do something. You can do whatever you want wherever you want. If you do not get into the school of your choice, and maybe you wanted to do research because of a facility they have there, just get in touch with who runs the facility. When you get about 3/4 through college, you realize it is not where you go to school, it is what you did with that time. You can learn everything no matter where you go. You can learn the same stuff at the worst school. You may just have to self teach more so. You cannot rely on a school to teach you everything because they will not teach you everything. I guarantee you that, if you just go to a good/decent school for the program you want, you will be absolutely more than fine. Instead of MIT for engineering, you went somewhere else that was not "ranked" as well but still regarded as a good school... you will still be set. Wait about 2-4 years, and this moment of rejection will feel like a complete waste of time and feeling because you realize it really is not where you go to school (to a certain extent, yes), but how you engage yourself and learn. You can be a badass wherever you go, you do not need to go to IVY schools to be the best. There are people smarter than all the MIT and IVY students that go to much less regarded schools. I know this because I have been to several colleges and each one has so many people who would wipe the floor with IVY students. All "good enough" schools will be able to prepare you for what you need to know. You will see it will not matter which school you go to really, but how you apply yourself, at whichever school you go to.
    From an engineering student standpoint, it does not matter where you go, there are professors who know and do not know things. You WILL have to teach yourself a majority of the schooling, and high school does not prepare you for stem fields. I went to the best school in my state, and it did not prepare me for engineering school because high school was easy, did not even need to try. But come to engineering programs, good luck trying to get by without trying, you will not make it. After statics, you have to try and study or you will fail out of it. Best of luck, the rejections will only bother you until you get acquainted with your school of choice and then you will totally forget about the rejections and you will then laugh about them with your new friends then you will kick ass with all those 4 or so years in this OTHER college in which you can still become smarter then an IVY student. IVY students may not even be able to survive in the real world. I have professors who make fun of IVY students they have met and did not know what they were talking about.

      Hi, as a senior who just went through the college process, I think maybe I can offer some advice. Study for the SAT, but don't make it your end-all be-all. Colleges care more that you took the hardest classes available and could handle the challenge. Do things you really care about in high school, don't just follow what you think colleges want. Let your uniqueness shine through. Your application won't click with some colleges and they'l reject you, but I promise there will be a college out there that is thrilled to have a student like you. Trust me, it only takes that 1 place. Also, visit places you're interested in if at all possible, and ask specific questions and ask to meet with professors from departments you're interested in. I didn't get into any ivies, but I got into Davidson College with a 1360 SAT and a 3.97 unweighted GPA, and I couldn't be more happy. Hang in there! ❤️

    I think what happened to you is that your grades and scores were probably amazing, but usually Ivies reject those who are super smart but don't have a lot of extracurricular activities and service hours. I'm not assuming that you didn't do anything outside of school, but for everyone else reading this and hoping to get into any good college, you gotta have more than just good grades.
    (BTW, did you know that UT Austin rejects valedictorians almost every year? They want more than just a high GPA.)

    • @AnthonyTang
      @AnthonyTang  6 років тому +1

      Hey no worries, bud, I had no idea what it was I was a sophomore either! Early action is an option applicants can choose by submitting their application to a school around 2 months before applicants who are applying "regular decision" do. These early applicants get their decisions sometime around December, while regular applicants have to wait until April. The one caveat is that the early action option is usually restricted, meaning that students can't choose to apply early action to more than one school. Hope this helped!

    There is no way you should be 0 for 7 for Ivy League admissions with your scores. SMH. I like your work ethic seeking perfection on the SAT and ACT.

    This was anti climactic. Wasn't as good of a candidate as I thought. Probably should have applied to third tier schools like Notre Dame and Michigan, etc.
