My professor in film school said " just because you captured the perfect shot, doesn't mean it fits in your film." True words! Dope video homie!
Yeah that translates well 🙏🏼
the way you mix your tracks is so "calm" I don't even know how I might achieve that relaxed and easy sound
Just volume and filters, mix in low volume.
Why would that have anything to do with the mixing, sebastian..?
@@herschoolcolors isn't equalizing/filtering, saturation, compression and all that stuff a part of mixing?
@@sebastiancartes9774 Sure, but it's relaxing because he composed a relaxing track. Not because of some EQ setting.
@@herschoolcolors I don't think it's just the sample, the way he treats the samples is what I like the most
Congrats fam... I watch your channel all the time.. It's very valuable & relaxing!
Ave ✌🏼right back at you bro...thanks for all the videos
very relaxing...stay up G
now we know where you got your sauce from AH HA!
This is what I like about sampling even if you hear something and want to use in the moment it might not fit. You can come back weeks or months later and you can come up with something completely different
Yes very true, it also has to do with the mood that you're in at that time with a a certain sample.
Really interesting perspective. I've experienced this recently; working on a beat, then finding an amazing sample that should fit, but it leads the beat down a weird rabbit hole, and while trying to meld the beat to the intricacies of this amazing new sample, things change too much, and the original vibe of the beat is totally lost. Less is certainly more sometimes.
💯
yess commiting to a sample can ruin a potencially great track.
@@dabudamba True, that. Ears get seduced too easily.
This guy so clean, he even got his nails polished hahaha
Your stuff is never rushed..... Lots of space......
Thanks Bro 👊🏼
This issue has had me almost give up on sampling altogether and make my own as it’s quicker than listening to record after record. Somehow though I always find myself being drawn back to my record collection regardless of the problems it creates.
Man you raised your production quality significantly, beautiful job showcasing your beautiful content!
Thank you, always trying to do better than the last
This beat is definitely one of my favorite beats from you🙌🏾‼️ and I agree, sometimes too many cuts can take away the song’s purpose. Simplicity is key at times. Love the vibes
Whether I try jazz sample boom bap like Marlow Digs or soul sampled boom bap like Dubs Banger, I just can’t seem to find the right cuts and make a beat. It’s only when you try doing it do you truly appreciate the skill these guys have.
Yup..been there.
That two bar at exactly 1:16, truly inspiring.
Good topic Marlow. Not using every sample that comes around is good when you already know how the beat should sound in the end. Your beats (style) really benefit from this. On the other hand there are reasons to do the exact opposite IMO. Experimenting with a lot of different samples in one beat can inspire the beatmaker, teach him/her new ways in using samples or find a new style. Think about the samplecollages the bombsquad did back in the 80s/90s. It also can be fun to just play around with samples from different genres. Mixing classical music with Jimi Hendrix, Latin music, Inuit voices, New Wave music and greek folk might end in chaos but it COULD also end up in a masterpiece.
Don't get me wrong, I've experimented with a lot coming up. I've sampled from all genres of music, films, television, and tried so many combinations. From doing all that I come to this conclusion that I mentioned in the video, from my personal experience. At this point I want my beats to sound a certain way, and for that I want to use a certain type of cuts, that's why I am being so selective. But things change and maybe next year I am doing it in a different way. I agree, experiment as much as you can.
Thanks Marlow! 🥂
What up Marlow? Nice vid, and your soothing beat is something that I needed to hear right about now! Thanks bro!👊🏽
Thanks for tuning in 🙏🏼
Cheers Marco. Thanks for the great videos in 2020. Your Patreon content is always spot on, great value. HNY for 2021
Thank you for the support 🙏🏼
Sounds great to be able to tinker for hours with a sample tryin to find this exact tone you're looking for. When I try to spend a little more time on a beat it'll always come out way overthinked and in an "unfinished will come back later because it's too good" spot
So inspirational homie!! 🔥
H.N.Y. 2021 = yes to dope beats and no to all the other bullshit..
Dope video sampling is way more intricate than we get credit for.I have that problem where It's hard for me to finish a beat because I feel like I need to add more and more of the sample which can sometime over saturate the beat just trying to fill in the emptiness or space
That's it, I feel like making a video just on this topic. People always think sampling is easy for some reason but it can be way harder than any other instrument.
Bro, amo tu trabajo te admiro mucho, tu musica me ha inspirado muchas veces, espero sigas creciendo y aportando a esta comunidad
Muchas gracias Sinko 🙏🏼
so much learned from you homie. appreciate you
Thanks Mike, all the best with the production
Thanks for your advices, I actually appreciate them.

Thanks bro 👊🏼
Yeah that's dope
the Game is your bro
I don’t like spending a lot of time choosing samples, because the quest for perfection has paralysed me in the past. I do respect your patience though, and you’re making beautiful music, which shows that your method works.
thanks for lot of knowledge 😍 wish you and everybody 2021+ beats next year 🙌
🙏🏼
Thanks for this year marlow, keep on it! 🚀
Absolutely 💪🏼

🎉
After you've spent countless hours locating, extracting and processing the "perfect sample" some creep ... [like me] ... comes boppin along and "sees" the "perfect" opportunity to "sample"...perfect samples! Thank-you...for not pressing charges cause if I get paper we all get paid! My word is "Metatron".
do it
Hell yeah bruh! Keep up the solid work 💪 💯 👌
Let's go 💪🏼
Hope you do another "flip this sample" challenge. Those are always fun.

Muy lindo. Less is more!
Great vid
nice video man, very balanced, the advise, the videos and the music, muy tranquilo me gusta. and just like that you inspired me to stop watching videos on my phone and pick up my mp and play for a while. cheers
great to hear that, thanks bro 🙏🏼
Always a problem for me starting out with something decent then crowding it with crap that doesn't need to be there.
Yes, I think we all have that problem
The key is to incorporate other samples that only compliment. & only do what makes sense.
Dope video.
Great!!
Happy New Year bro.
Happy New Year ✌🏼
Cool.
THANKS DUDE ITS BEEN A PLEASURE
Thank you, also a pleasure making videos for you
That mpc x looks so good
feels good too
One Love!!!!
✌🏼
That Nina Simone song is dope, I dug it out of a compilation and sampled too 🤙
peace!🌀
✌🏼
I know new title is more relevant to video, but I really liked the original title "Don’t add too many samples to your Beats"...maybe you could make another vid talking more about your minimalist approach. It is definitely something I could stand to improve on.
Yes maybe a more detailed video on this would be good
Can you do more tips videos pls
Just landed here, well first happy new year to you, and thanks for what you’re doing. Great vibe. I’ll dig the rest of your work.
Happy New Year 🙏🏼
Good Video Great Advice - Ganz
good samples have the dynamics and usability for what you need/ (what you need) - often time i find myslef shoving in more then is required and it get cluttered or messy sounding and in thee cases eqing is very difficult to clean through muddiness- or sounds too - or the good samples pigeon hole you and theres really no where for the loop to grow too/ untill you fin that next sample that fits - both are incredible frustrating but knowing music and beats and expanding your reference sources to what you wanna do - can be beneficial-
THANK YOU!!!!
Subbed! Good stuff man.
🙏🏼 appreciate it
That bassline is filthy.
Thanks 🙏🏼
Good Ish bredren 👍🏾
As always your videos are great inspiration! Happy new year
Happy new year 🙌🏼
Altamente como sempre!
Obrigado
Marlow, I understand but as a new MpCX user, it's so easy to go crazy sample anything lol.
Yeah that's true, it's so easy to reach for a sample.
Nice sample ...on everything Big (facts)...i can dig it (Facts)HNY🎉
Great video! I wish I can afford the X!
the Mpc One does the same, all the same workflow, Mpc Live is also a great sampler.
I really like the hats rythm. Would you make a video on specifique hats rythm skils?
I think I might have one in the channel but I am not sure. If not I'll make one.
@@mpchead thanks, i'll check it out. If there are no videos about it i will be waiting for it! Peace
💯💯💯💯💯🔥
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Two questions for you: how long does it take you to film/edit per video?
Also- what sort of effects you usually add to your horn samples?
Thanks bro!
Making the beat/filming/ Editing around one day, could be done faster but I take my time, don't like rushing things.
Just filters mostly, the Enhancer sometimes.
This beat is really fire man! When this one will be available online for stream?
February probably new beat tape
how do you make your beats sound so warm man?
Filters
@@mpchead any specific filter you're using or just any?
@@mpchead nice
@@TheIceBallsGaming start with a low pass
I still struggle with choosing the right sample in the first place 😖
👊🏻✌🏻
👊🏼
The only issue ive had for a long time is tryin to get some Warmth out of it.. i have the 2kxl foe 15years and its not smacking me in the face as hard. lol
i run samples through an sp303 into the XL and it helps, still working on getting it down
Do you have any videos where you discuss your philosophy/process on matching tempo, counting bars, etc.?
I never really think about matching tempo. My cuts are usually too small to think about that. I might use just a bit or warp sometimes to stretch the audio a bit nothing else.
@@mpchead thanks for the response, man. Love the videos and the beats are always 🔥🔥
Great advice! Btw, are you using a filter and/or LUT or something on your videos? Love the color grading, mind sharing?
I color grade it myself, is just and adventure each time.
How do you save each slice when you chop it up to put in individual pads
What’s up Marlow Digs I have an issue with my turntable ground wire not being able to reach my Mpc . What alternative could I use to extend the reach?
just get some more wire and tape it together, works fine. All you need is wire to connect the ground between both machines, can be any wire.
@@mpchead what type of wire can I use . I’m confused.. so many to choose..
@@mpchead I see you said any wire ok got it
Ehi Marlow, Sorry for the question, I've Always produced with serato sample on ableton, but I feel that the possibilities on sampling are limited... I want to buy my First mpc. Found an mpc touch for 300 bucks, Is that worth? Thank you in Advance, keep It up with good Beats💖
I don't think it's worth it at this point. Just my opinion, but I would try to get the Mpc one. They all do the same thing but the One doesn't need to be connected to a computer. I prefer the buttons and layout on the One, plus it's newer and will get more support and updates.
Where can I hear the full beat?
next beat tape coming out next month
