Exactly. Back in the olden days the foul would be called on the player that initiated contact. These days Giannis can push, shove, elbow and shoulder 4 guys out the way before dunking, then they call a defensive foul on one the guys that got bowled over.
There will always be different foul calling for centers, as it is nearly impossible to play the post without contact. More contact is allowed. @@Schiltzenberger

Ya but it’s frustrating sometimes. The refs are still entirely too inconsistent with the calls and players are confused. They miss a lot of blatant fouls but then randomly start calling soft touch fouls for stretches.
Good video coach. As a Wolves fan im a little biased. In that Cavs-Wolved game, Jarrrt freakin Allen shot 22 fts!!!! I think that was also boiling under Ant amd Gobert. He was getting a lot of calls im his favor and shot nearly as much FTs as the Wolves by himself.
Point inflation has literally made me stop watching the games. I start watching at the Conference Finals. Say what you will about older eras, but points haven't been this cheap since the sixties.
This has nothing to do with the video just basketball just want to get this knowledge out,Why don’t the buck trade Damian Lillard and let Gianni’s run primary pg have Bobby at the 4, they can replicate what 2020 lakers did and run the league with there size and defense and replace Damian lillard with a shot creating closer like Paul George Zach Lavine, seeing Giannis at point guard it would break the league putting opposing teams pg in jail tryna figure out who to guard I feel like this is the next step to evolution of the game each and every time we seen a tall pg dominate something goes wrong ex: penny, Shaun Livingston, lamelo injuries,Ben simmons, and more, but when done right seems unstoppable, I mean think when Gianni’s is a point guard what can opposing teams pg do guard the 6,7 6,8 sg or small forward definitely not the bigs, and I’m just using Giannis as an example but it would be the next evolution eliminating the pg spot with freakish unstoppable talent
All this sneaky grab-ass judo stuff has been a core discipline in NBA defense for as long as I can remember. The state of the art is more subtle than ever. Happens on offense too. Watch Embiid in the low post, he can hip-check a big defender right off the court and make it look like nothing. "IDK, that huge guy just went flying, so weird." It's not just size, either, it's a whole wrestling match down there.
..until the start of next season when FTAs, fouls, and PPG are even higher than they were before these changes. Just like every other time they've briefly enforced points of emphasis that benefited defense.
This is what I have been trying to explain to people who think the changes in officiating over the years just boils down to simply hand checking. It isn't just hand checking. Offenses were being rewarded for cheap tactics when the defenders were using their hands or arms at all. The offense could just throw their arms into defenders: rip-throughs, intentionally locking defenders' arms, jumping back into defenders behind them after pinning them (though it seems they put a stop to that last year). Even if they let guys hand check, (and sometimes they do or just miss it happening) it was mostly pointless and just generally risky because offensive players could initiate contact and get a call regardless. Hand checking has it's benefits for defenders, but when the offense can just jump into you or throw their arms at your arms, it's impossible to even casually put your hands out. When foul-baiting is too easy for the offenses to exploit like that, defenders can't even put their arms where near the offense. And that's not really even getting into other advantages that offenses currently get: more leniency on travels when catching the ball or gathering/euro-steps, more leniency on dribbling rules (although they started clamping down on that last year) and, of course, defensive 3-seconds. Teams have all figured out the 3pt vs long2s efficiency and spacing hacks. As a result, offensive spacing is more appropriately implemented by everyone across the league and defenses are generally more spread out. It really makes it feel like a lot of these rule/interpretation-related offensive advantages are kind of antiquated now. Offensive strategies have moved beyond the slow-paced, cramped offenses of the early-mid 2000s that sparked all these offense-benefiting rules/interpretations in the first place.
Hey Coach. On UA-cam there’s about an hour long interview w the ref who got arrested for gambling. If you watch that you can get a lot of insight into how the nba instructs the refs (prioritizing players/ teams)
5:46 I really appreciate that the ref told Ant why there wasn't a call instead of giving him the cold shoulder, like most refs. We need more of that type of communication between players and refs, instead of refs calling techs every time a player breathes in a manner they dislike
I think it would be interesting to find out if the lower scoring games this season have significantly less points from free throws than the higher scoring games, or if theres no correlation
Honestly, I think most people missed the point of Rudy's money symbol to the ref. It's not "you're betting on the game" it's "you're getting paid to keep it close or get them the win etc"
Coach, how can you make such a fantastic breakdown where nearly every clip has me nodding my head, yet give it a godawful title? Btw hats off for showing the inner trae young that doncic possesses and the inner harden in brunson.
LMAO, it's funny as hell that the refs are now allowing the tiniest level of hand checking, and its throwing so many "high level" players off their game.
Games are great to watch post asg, no wonder off eff. Is going up, teams do what they should and that is playing team ball. Before games were more of a beauty pagent who will get more threes and free throws
I think the focus should be that offensive players shouldn’t bank on getting foul calls to score, or maybe rely on less. Foul calls should be a punishment for bad defense, not an incentive for the offense.
Unless you're the Lakers. The league goes out of their way to get them to the line. Take the game against the Wolves last night, Lakers shot 32 FTs, Wolves only shot 14 FTs. That's ridiculous. The league hates the Wolves, I hope they go deep this year!
At least a couple of times each game I'm wondering "where is the foul?" or "what is the defender supposed to do?" It will be nice if they actually start allowing the play to be played like it's supposed to. A while ago a saw a Lakers game where Max Christie was defending a fast break. He was running backwards in his own painted area, and the offensive player ran through him in a straight line for a layup... foul on Christie... If you can't even run backwards, not doing anything with your arms or hands, and you are STILL called for a foul... What the heck is the game then?
Thank god. Seeing offensive players create contact by jumping into the defender etc, made me sick

Ya but it’s frustrating sometimes. The refs are still entirely too inconsistent with the calls and players are confused. They miss a lot of blatant fouls but then randomly start calling soft touch fouls for stretches.
This is so good. People are fucking tired of players getting bailed out by the refs
this call change might bring back some mid-range games. i hope we can see more variety in skills not just 3s and driving for fouls.
We support this sponsor coach, please stay away from gambling companies .
Small but good change.
Don't imagine the NBA will be changing the death of the travel call and carrying.
we done with the 20s
Hey good vid. Do you guys do a livestream on any other day than Monday on a regular basis?
Just in time for the playoffs. You love to see it.
Good. We dont want to see a FT fest
This man transitioned to Trae Young when talking about hair thinning out for his advertisement. I am rolling. 😂
Focusing on Trae Young when mentioning hair thinning out is diabolical 💀
All this sneaky grab-ass judo stuff has been a core discipline in NBA defense for as long as I can remember. The state of the art is more subtle than ever. Happens on offense too. Watch Embiid in the low post, he can hip-check a big defender right off the court and make it look like nothing. "IDK, that huge guy just went flying, so weird." It's not just size, either, it's a whole wrestling match down there.
Adam silver saw all these 70 point outbursts and said "enough is enough"
..until the start of next season when FTAs, fouls, and PPG are even higher than they were before these changes. Just like every other time they've briefly enforced points of emphasis that benefited defense.
Banger video, wonder if ESPN or NBA Media talk openly about this
how refs killed shitty offense more like it
This is what I have been trying to explain to people who think the changes in officiating over the years just boils down to simply hand checking.
Good I’m tired of the damn foul merchants ruining the game. I didn’t come to watch you sit at the FT line for easy points
Hey Coach. On UA-cam there’s about an hour long interview w the ref who got arrested for gambling.
If you watch that you can get a lot of insight into how the nba instructs the refs (prioritizing players/ teams)
Because LBJ got 40k.
That Nutrafol ad was something else 😂
Nah, the refs will obviously miss some calls, but overall it's been long overdue. Too many ridiculous foul calls, every game.
Trae Young catching strays on the ad intro hahahaha
5:46 I really appreciate that the ref told Ant why there wasn't a call instead of giving him the cold shoulder, like most refs. We need more of that type of communication between players and refs, instead of refs calling techs every time a player breathes in a manner they dislike
I like what they are doing right now. This will stop players crying for foul..
I’m just glad I’m not the only one who noticed the recent trend of low scoring games
Luka is "notorious for his foul hunting", huh? The same guy that has the highest PPG since the merger if you exclude FTs? Sick job buddy, you got him!
LMAO, it's funny as hell that the refs are now allowing the tiniest level of hand checking, and its throwing so many "high level" players off their game.
They will adjust, don’t worry, they are good
Games are great to watch post asg, no wonder off eff.
Im all for it 🙌 Bring back defense
Finally players start actually shooting the ball not flopping and complaining about non calls like the lakers
I don’t mind embellishing fouls when u attack aggressively in the paint. But actively seeking fouls in jumpers/ floaters wit minimal contact
Definitely a needed a change
Unless you're the Lakers. The league goes out of their way to get them to the line. Take the game against the Wolves last night, Lakers shot 32 FTs, Wolves only shot 14 FTs. That's ridiculous. The league hates the Wolves, I hope they go deep this year!
3:20 Come on home yall 😂- Charles Barkley
At least a couple of times each game I'm wondering "where is the foul?" or "what is the defender supposed to do?"
It will be nice if they actually start allowing the play to be played like it's supposed to.
The traveling and carrying completely changed the game. Along with the prevalence of threes and layups/dunks.
Good! Keep it that way -A happy Knick fan
