UPDATE: After reading the lyrics for both Beautiful Liar and Whisper, I will say it gave a bit more perspective but not totally for me. But I started to wonder if Ravi is some kind of devil/angel type figure to Leo’s though, but I didn’t know for sure. Hmmm🤔
in beautiful liar leo and ravi represent two sides to the same person. leo is the rational side and ravi is the emotional side. it's about being torn between letting go and holding onto the person you like. that's why there's some scenes where ravi and leo are fighting it's like the internal struggle
idk about the lyrics of whisper but the mv is soulmate themed, kind of like the red string of fate. my take on the lyrics is that it might be about wanting to hear your lover say sweet things only for your ears and the pleasure you get from hearing them say that stuff

It could also be interpreted as Leo being the Beautiful Lie and Ravi being the * clears throat * "Ugly" Truth
I gotchu! So in Beautiful Liar, Leo and Ravi are two sides of one person. Leo is the "beautiful liar" who wants to do what he believes is right by letting the girl go while Ravi represents the true emotions that Leo is trying to keep hidden inside of him. You can see the conflict between these two sides during the key scene, where Ravi finally breaks free from Leo for a moment and tries to go after the girl, and during the struggle/contemporary dance when Leo tries to pull Ravi back. Leo succeeds in the end, and is left empty and alone as Ravi fades away while the lyrics change from "I'm a beautiful liar" to "I'm a cowardly liar." There's also a lot of symbolism in the MV, from the outfits, pianos, background, make up, light imagery, etc. One of my favorites is how Leo's eyes are lined with glitter, which makes it look like he's holding back tears in order to maintain his beautiful lie, while Ravi's are red-rimmed as if he's been crying, which expresses Leo's real feelings. Also fun fact, this subunit was formed since LR were the two most active members in terms of writing/composing/producing their own songs so all the tracks on these albums were done by them!

fun fact about beautiful liar is that leo's high note at the end wasn't supposed to go that high. the last octave was added just cause ravi found out he could sing that high lol
And after a show where they asked Leo to went 4 octaves, Ravi was like wait he could do that, and Leo panicky said no lmao

This is my thoughts everytime I watch this MV
I've always loved whisper, the mv is sooo queer coded we all know it 😂
VIXX LR's "Beautiful Liar" is all about the internal struggle of coming to terms with when it is time to end a relationship. So, how I interpret the story in the MV is, that Leo and Ravi represent the two halves of the same person. The MV is all about an internal struggle that the guy is having about whether to hold on to the girl or do what he ultimately knows is best for both of them, and let her go. One side knows that he needs to let her go and end the relationship, and the other side of him wants to hold on for dear life to keep her. Leo is the "beautiful liar" who has created this lie for himself in order to do the right thing and let her go. And Ravi represents the guy's real internal emotions. All Ravi wants to do is hold on to her. You see the girl give Leo a wedding invitation and she tries to return his keys because she is ending the relationship and is in love with someone else. Leo is trying to be a bigger person and just let her go. But, as you see, Ravi, who is the true emotions, is angry and he is refusing to give up -- he doesn't want to accept the keys and when she walks away he tries to run after her. But the beautiful lie, which switches to beautiful pain, wins out and Leo's side ends up winning the struggle. As Ravi walks away in the end, Leo is left to live his beautiful lie and ignore his true emotions, etc.
With VIXX LR, most of the time you see them depicting 2 sides of the same person. They aren't in love with each other.
I know people often credit VIXX for their darker concepts but their bright concepts are just as good. GR8U as the parallel for hyde, Dynamite for The closer/Fantasy, and their earlier concepts(Super hero and Rock ur body) are amazing actually. please watch their stages,especially the gayo daejun version because they do remixes and special stages. Especially their iconic Sharing-la stage that gone viral and made them invited to the nation's cultural event.

First of all once again thank you for diving into VIXX! Your guess about Ravi is close, in Beautiful Liar he represents the Ugly Truth while Leo is the Beautiful Lie. In other words, Ravi is saying everything Leo actually wishes to say to his lover, but Leo is holding his true feelings back and lying to his lover so they would leave him with no regrets, even though it's painful for him to part with them. This is why they "fight" each other while the partner leaves them, Leo is holding Ravi back from trying to stop her.
Meanwhile in Whisper, Leo and Ravi are portraying soulmates finding each other and completing each other! At the time anything queer was basically kind of taboo, so I personally think they added "girl" to the lyrics to avoid any censorship haha but the MV left a very distinct impression 😂 Ravi is basically someone who has expressed that he sees love with no gender boundaries, while not openly disclosing his sexuality. Leo may also not be entirely heterosexual 😅

The Beautiful Liar music video will forever be one of my favorite all-time videos because it’s just so beautifully done. Ravi displays the real truth so great because the truth is never pretty. The truth is always kind of messed up maybe a little rough and Leo does such a good job at portraying a beautiful lie like it’s all neatly put together, nothing out of place just the perfect lie, and they both illustrate the internal struggle of the truth fighting with the lie snd the the lie killing the truth so well that it just always leaves me in awe

I've noticed a lot of more queer coded songs or songs by (not publicly out) queer kpop artists often have opposite pronouns inserted, sometimes clunkily like you can infer that someone at the label wanted them to make it more heteronormative to balance it out, I've even heard artists speak about those specific songs where I've noticed it being heavily edited in terms of the lyrics, not saying names but you can make your own opinions 😅

If you've been a Kpop fan for a long time you might recognize the melody from VIXX's "Love Equation" because it's a remake of a hit song by the Korean group R.ef called “Farewell Formula” from 1995. “Love Equation” retains the main melody from the original song, but has been updated to fit the trends of 2015 and adds in VIXX’s unique style. Although I didn't know the original song, when VIXX first released "Love Equation" I thought it sounded familiar because the original song has often been used on variety shows and as background music for different things, etc., so I had heard it many times before without even realizing it.
I know you have a lot on your plate yet as far as VIXX videos and dance practices, but when you have a chance you should check out Leo, Ken and Hyuk's solo work. Leo, in particular, has released several albums, and they are all well worth a listen. I hope you're enjoying your VIXX journey! I'm really getting a kick out of seeing you discover my ult group.

Anyways, if you like Ravi's rap you can actually react his solo work too. He has two company under his name so you can be sure there is plenty of solo work he did. Also he is the most copyrighted idol in kpop.
Sir I recommend listening to their Japanese songs too like Can't Say, HanaKaze, Lalala Ai wo Arigato, Depend On Me and Reincarnation. Also I would like you to listen to their solo songs, though sadly Ken only has one... i'm looking at a specific fish for leading it all to this moment 😑
Anyways, Leo, Ravi and Hyuk have multiple songs to listen to. Go watch and listen, they're all amazing :'D

Funny how you said Love Equation was the cutest VIXX but the song is about breaking up orz.
It's actually a remake, as mentioned by the other comments but VIXX added their own flavor to it. The song is originally titled (in English) as "Formula for Breakup" and that is actually still the Korean title. Just that the official English title is ironic.
The song lyrics is playful despite being bitter about a break up. The chorus goes like this: "Have you ever tried breaking up on such a sunny day? It's even worse than in rainy days because you can't hide the slightest expressions on your face. No typical break up song can express this feeling of losing you. But when I hear them, why do my tears fall?"
But the bridge is more comforting rather than sad.
My favorite part is the first line of Leo though. He was like: "there's always rain in break up scenes, am I living in some tropical rainforest" and N's: "As you keep missing the person who left, your tears fall but you wish them happiness" but Hyuk was like: "Where can you find an angel-like person like that nowadays? Even before they just used to say that" (implying that they don't mean wishing their ex happiness lol)
VIXX LR is pure art. Love Equation stages are the cutest and Ken is a king of aegyo in all K-Pop >.

BY THE WAY it would be amazing if you could check out VIXX LR's Whisper mini album!!! The songs Chocolatier and Beautiful Night really add to the story of Whisper
So basically Leo and Ravi are the same person but Ravi is like Leo‘s inner self that isn’t ready to let the girl they love go. Leo is ready because he knows she’s happier elsewhere but Ravi doesn’t agree.
Yeah, Love Equation is definitely a bop, and *one* of the cutest MVs ever from them, but wait. Oh, honey, just wait. When you watch GR8U, it gets *ridiculous*. (And they had to learn how to lipsync that one backward for the MV.) There's also On & On, which is another darker concept, and "Only You" which is just a whole-ass moooooooood. TRY not saying, "okay, Daddy" when Leo comes at you while he's loosening his tie. Another fun one before you hit the dance practices is their cover of Wonder Girls' "So Hot". As for the LR videos - definitely coded. Yes, what you saw was a track list in that book of the mini-album. And the two stick figures in lights that look almost like a constellation? That was their nod to their Starlights, and those figures were on that year's fan club merch.
You should watch bsides from them :') like light up the darkness, black out, trigger and hot enough all of them is masterpieces :)
The girl from 'Rock your body" MV is Kim Dasom from SISTAR
Those colors in Whisper are so deliberate, as is the 'red string of fate' between them. Love that song. I can't wait to see you listen to On & On - it was the song that made me check out Vixx after my ult A.C.E did an iconic cover of it. You should check it out after you watch the mv! They had 3 days to do it & absolutely *slayed* both the concept and the choreo. I had to check out Vixx after that.

You should also react to their live shows. For me VIXX is one of the groups that always has this natural charisma on stage especially for their live shows. They have a really different color from other kpop groups.

Love Equation was the first and only VIXX song to get a triple crown on music shows and an all-k*ll during the second or third week of promotions! Because it was a remake of a popular 90s song. It’s actually one of my fave songs because I loved seeing them actually have fun on stage instead of being sad/brooding. 😂 however, the lyrics are very sad compared to the sound.
WOW the amounts of times I've watched Beautiful Liar since it was released and NEVER REALIZED THOSE PAINTINGS WERE FACES?! I was too distracted by Leo and Ravi and whatever they had going on :)

They are called concept kings, not just because they have a concept in every MV. But it goes much deeper than that.
In vixx LR whisper album - came with red and blue film that you put over pictures in the album to see different things(Leo&Ravi) with each color ❤💙
Here's the thing:
What most people don't get about Whisper is that, not only is talking about the Red String of Faith, also working with complete opposites: the blue and red thing opposite colours, the left and right, Ravi having a more harsher voice, while Leo is more melodic and soft, the piano in contrast to the harshness of the rapping, etc..
It's basically saying that, although you are faithed partners, the opposites do work and compliment each other.

Beautiful Liar has always been one of my all-time faves. I never get tired of listening to it. Leo was in the BL Happy Ending Romance I can't remember if you knew that already or not. About the next MVs, besides "On and On", "G.R.8.U" and "Only You", you can also check it (if you want of course) "Thank You For My Love" and "Milky Way" they are MVs dedicated to Starlights (their fanbase), the first one is emotional and the second one is very fun 'cause they gathered some fans to record the MV and the most beautiful thing was that they ask to fans not to leak any footage before the MV comes out and the fans kept their promise. We only saw fan pictures and videos about that day after the Milky Way MV was released.
Starlights are definitely one of the most respectful fandoms ever.
VIXX has a lot of close interactions with fans, taking pictures, playing around, and sitting with fans in meetings. They even go to the crowd in their concerts and sit beside the fans. The level of love and trust between both sides is beautiful.
Can't wait to watch more reactions about VIXX and I'm excited for you to get to their dance practices!

I actually vaguely remember Ravi saying he thought of the concept for Chained Up while doing Beautiful Liar, and he almost suggested it as their concept for LR but decided to do it as the full group~ So, make of that what you will~~~^.^

oh god, i forgot about Love Equation. The video is so muted for such a happy sounding song. If you only heard it you would totally think the video would be as bright as Rock Your Body. You'd be so very wrong. It LOOKS like it could be a break up video with the colors so muted.
