  • Aberdeenshire is an emerging destination within Scotland, the region’s mountain bike trails are developing at a rate of knots, thanks to the strong local riding community and the management of the Aberdeenshire Trail Association. It’s got a style of trail for everyone whilst keeping things completely natural. In this episode we explore, the infamous Lightning Bolt trail through Balmoral Estate that finishes at Loch Muick, the hand-built trails around Ballater, Mastermind and Heartbreak Ridge and the Munro, Beinn a' Bhùird.
    00:00 Introduction
    01:17 The Lightning Bolt, Glen Muick
    02:21 Ballater, Mastermind
    05:56 Ballater, Heartbreak Ridge
    09:31 Beinn a'Bhùird
    The sustainability focus of this episode is around trail etiquette. Here in Scotland were fornuate to be able to ride locations like Beinn a'Bhùird are privileges that we as MTB’ers can’t take for granted. We need to respect these fragile landscapes, ride to the terrain, conditions and acknowledge the wild life they’re home to.
    The entire series is being created carbon neutral. All our journey emissions will be offset and the advertising revenue generated from you watching this series will be split across planting more native trees in Scotland and the local trail associations.
    All these rides are recorded on komoot so you can go and do them for yourself.

    Hands down the best riding in the UK that nobody knows about or they didn’t until recently. Great to see people riding big mountain stuff which is the essence of MTB in Scotland especially on a fantastic sunny day. Also great to see you switch from a bum bag to a proper pack for the mountains which is a nod to the fact that the consequences are far greater and the kit needed more comprehensive. So many MTB videos show people with no kit up a mountain, terrible example to set. This video sums up what is so world class about Aberdeenshire, the sheer scale of trails and types of trails is mind blowing.

    Pretty disappointing that other people get the recognition for Mastermind. The section of trail that was highlighted for being particularly eroded has actually been fixed since this footage was filmed

    • @ScottyLaughland
      @ScottyLaughland  2 роки тому +2

      Hey Jake! This wasn’t a dig at the particular section it was highlighting a common/growing problem where riders stray from the main line in a bid to make the section easier. Stoked to hear it’s been repaired, it’s a seriously sick trail too to bottom and I’m in no way meaning to offend only bring awareness to riders who perhaps don’t realise what they’re line choice is doing! Apologies if it was taken in the wrong way! ✌️

    • @jakewarden3574
      @jakewarden3574 2 роки тому

      Absolutely not. You're doing a great job on presenting the trails we're lucky enough to have in Scotland. I totally didn't perceive any comments on a dig- I agree with your thoughts and attwmpted to fix the trail, to prevent further wear.
      Mastermind has appreared in magazine reviews and on videos, as has Ballater in general, but there was little to ride in the Ballater area before Mastermind was built. It just frustrates me that other organisations get credited when they have had very little input in the area

      Have they been working closely with landowners to develop the trail network? Yes.
      I do get where you’re coming from but if you are being accurate- this is just the general narrative of the film and it’s positive for everyone.
      Ultimately you’re an active part of the local riding community with loads of good stuff to offer; and by default your peers and associated trail enthusiasts welcome and are grateful for your input.
