    idk if im over analyzing but i think it's interesting how anything related to hands is in every episode. the first episode, there's the weird close up of bill's hand. second episode, arden's characters hand gets stepped on, close up of that as well and the boss asking if she "needed a hand". third episode, another close up bill's weird hand motions and the boss saying her "hands are tied". fourth ep, of arden's broken hand, and a close up of the boss turning on the stereo. then at the end of the fourth ep we see a quick foreshadowing of what will happen in the fifth ep, and in that shot, there is blood in bills hands. yet, weirdly enough, the last episode, we only see feet. the boss's feet, and bill and johns feet chained to the wall. also, note the to get water from the cooler, you have to use your hands. not quite sure if this means anything, but it's something i noticed. there is a lot of repetition in this series. the hand motif, how the main characters wear the same outfit everyday. maybe this represents how people may not realize it, but their lives turn into a routine, where nothing ever changes. the only way you can change is if you realize this and do something about it. but these characters never get to; they are literally, at the end, chained to the wall. they even try to escape their lives-asking their boss to quit, but she says no. so they kill her, thinking they can escape with her dead. but nope. they are chained to the office. they're forever locked inside their own minds, dreaming of an escape that will never happen.

      Megan Bartlett Thank you. Now that you mentioned it, it's impossible for me to believe that the hands dont mean anything in this series. It's details like these that tell us what this series possibly could be about.

    In the description of each episode, there is a day and time. In the description of this episode, it says 'nil.'
    'nil:' n. 1. nothing; naught; zero. adj. 2. having no value or existence. Very Camus/Kierkegaard...
    So well-articulated and an outstanding economy of language. Congrats to Will and Adrian.

    For those confused, the point of this series is to represent how people cannot escape the monotony of their miserable lives (or that the only thing stopping them is themselves, not their boss).

    This is what I personally got out of this series. The boss reflects society. She's in the top level of hierarchy in the office, because technically we're all UNDER the rules of society. This makes society (rules, crimes, evil) above us. No matter what we do, we can't get rid of it. The steak she ate represents highness. The employees represent servants (US) when they were praising her. We are the servants of society. People are always caught up in evil... When they killed her, it reflects people trying to ESCAPE from the pains of society. Even if people try to, in the end they'll always come back to their same old routine. They were chained, because they realized that it wasn't the boss that was stopping them from leaving... But it was them, themselves.

  • @lavendercurrent09
    @lavendercurrent09 7 років тому +41

    Ok I have a theory but I'm not sure if it's true.
    I feel like it's linked to social media. I mean at first they're there at the start talking and being boring, just following along( how we follow trends on social media, follow blindly , believe blindly) and the boss lady is like social media. She wins, she controls. And the workers they want to leave but they can't because they're addicted. And even when they leave they can't because they're addicted. So then the workers finally decide since they can't quit, they'll just "delete the site" and then the boss lady gets killed. But in the end it wasn't really the boss's fault it was their fault because they're just addicted and still stuck, even if "deleting the app" means killing the boss, they're still back to square one, addicted to social media/apps again. Idk it may sound wrong but that's what I got. Anyone feels the same or any other theories?

    • @delphinasummer
      @delphinasummer 7 років тому +2

      lavendercurrent09 your theory really makes sense ! But I think the watercooler was made to make people think that's why there's so many comments saying : "that's weird ", or "it makes me feel some way but i can't describe it". People don't get it but they still think about it. So this is why you can have so many point of view about it, for me it doesn't have a real and unique meaning but as many ones as there is people who watch this. Modern art.
      Btw sorry for my english i'm french ;)

    • @evmyers
      @evmyers 7 років тому +2

      I feel like the social media theory is very likely to be true. However I feel like them killing the boss is like mean comments and saying mean things behind a keyboard. Them killing her is what they comment, but them going back to the same thing in real life because they never do what they comment, if you get what I'm saying. I didn't give it much thought but I read your comment and then watched again and that's what I thought of. You're theory tho is great!!

      @lavendercurrent09 7 років тому +1

  • @mahakalota2568
    @mahakalota2568 7 років тому +6

    I think this is a bit controversial or rather up for discussion but I feel as if the water cooler symbolized the people working. When Bill and John stood together in the beginning, the substance inside was water, something clear and pure. The boss on the other hand, had a black substance which connoted evil and darkness which fit her persona. At the end, when Bill committed the murder and John was present, the water cooler was filled with blood, implying murder and impurity which was different than in the beginning. Also, the frames were pretty apparent all throughout the episodes because they were upright and jolly in the beginning and upside down and frightened towards the end which kind of gave this an eery, doomed effect. Overall, I thought it was a great series. It is sort of confusing for the wide audience I think but I think it's just enough confusion and lack of plot to give the audience their own version of the story. It's a bit like a descriptive sketch but in video form.

    I think the point of making this was to have people come together and theorize it's meaning, when in reality, maybe there is no true deeper meaning. I feel like the ample, obvious routine the characters present and how they succumb to the established "norm" is supposed to show ON of the most simplistic cores of our society; the idea of winners and losers, wherein Carol is the winner and her coworkers are the losers. When they kill her, it's symbolizing that we wish we could make our lives easier by eliminating competition, and being our best selves because there's no one else to be better than. To this idea, we are robots in society, disregarding actual conversation and ideas and replacing it with the emptiness of trying to fulfill ourselves. The end, I thought, was satisfying, because it shows that this whole time, Bill and John were imprisoned by the other competition (Carol), and even through eliminating said competition, they are still locked in, because without routine, we, as people, are still. I really enjoyed this, and I appreciate Will's work, along with all others involved. I hope they make more.

    • @Dragonelve4
      @Dragonelve4 7 років тому +13

      I think you might be on the right track. My guess is being chained to that place by the watercooler is how they actually got put into prison. Because they hated their jobs so much. It's more of a punishment that a prison though. And it's sort of an ironic ending that way. They tried to break free and just got chained to what they were trying to escape. But what's the moral of the story now? ;)

So, they killed her but they realised that they can't just be free because in the real world, sometimes you can't just resign and get out of your regular schedule

    I've interpreted this whole sequence of videos as a metaphor for life. How people are passive and door mats to others who are cruel yet make you want them to like you. Also how we never make a move for our selves and the result of us being passive is a corrupted mind where we hold in all of our emotions and then we finally let it out and it's all a vicious cycle that keeps repeating it's self. However I haven't quite figured out yet if in this video in particular is to show that we explode in our minds from not being able to take it, or if we explode in real and take it out on people do bad things.

      HelloImElsa I think it's to represent the fact that they're stuck in their jobs like a prisoner to a jail...

      HelloImElsa I believe it's because maybe they thought that by killing their boss they were gonna be free, but what was keeping them there was actually the routine or the repetitiveness of their lives? Something like that haha
