Have not driven ID4 yet. Just drove Model Y CRAZY fast though the Regen is CRAZY hard... My wife said no Blank blank way are we getting that car as she would throw up in the first 3 minutes in it. This is where I feel people who love Tesla accept the things it does to get their numbers in battery performance. VW I feel is looking to sell to everyone else who want to get in a car use it as such vs. a racecar to the friends house.
Europe loves versatile cars and the Model 3 never had a real chance against the ID.3, only due to its form factor. The model Y suits more to Europe, but still, a family does not want a racing car. But the chances are much better for the model Y than for the model 3 in Europe. The US might be a different story.
The ID4 will outbeat the model Y because it is much more comfortable offers more space for passengers as well as head-up display with augmented reality. Acceleration 0 to 60 and high speed are not important in most countries as most have speed limits. In Germany it becomes more and more difficult to enjoy driving at high speed due to congested traffic. Comfort and quietness becomes a much higher value. VW have chooses to enter a compromise to have a lower cw value by lifting its car but allowing better suspension travel and therefore higher comfort.
After reading your comment I wanted to check what are the differences between the two when it comes to interior space. From what I could find the Model Y offers more interior space for the occupants. Regarding NVH I am really curios to see which one is better. Did you find any review offering this info about the two EVs ?
My theory on why ID 4 is about 700 lbs heavier may be a result of their electronics being bulkier than Model Y. Also, they may use heavier gauge steel in ID 4. Of course, the battery is also a big factor where ID 4 is carrying more battery to achieve the same results of Model Y or any Tesla models for that matter.
Tesla Model Y LR AWD is 2004 kg, ID.4 weighs 2024 kg with a similar size battery. Ranges for the Y are strange between WLTP and EPA. I think the ID.4 in real life will be in between the LR and SR, but closer to the first.
True, bigger battery, less aluminium parts but still a big difference. For instance even if we compare the ID.4 with the Nissan Ariya which has also a 90 kWh battery option it is still heavier.
To make the Model Y comparable when it comes to equipment and extra options, it is about 220 000 SEK, roughly 22 000 euros more expensive than the ID4 1st edition. Yes the Model Y is faster 0-100 km/h, not why I buy a family car, if I want a sports car, I buy a sports car. Still, boot is bigger in ID4 and if I compare with older Teslas, the build quality is better in ID4. Long run I would say VW, for wow factor now, Tesla.
I like the VW ID4, but I would definitely pick Tesla over it. Tesla will have a higher resale value, Tesla software, battery and motors are way ahead. The ID 4 software is slow laggy, clumsy and not as smart and intuitive. Tesla computers are much more powerful so it can be updated regularly and stay fresh in comparison the ID4 uses old slow chips and software that can't be future proof as Tesla's are And most importantly the seamless vast charging Network Tesla offers is way ahead.
@@blueplanet1048 just one remark. The ID.4 and ID.3 for that matter use the latest automotive chips currently available on the market. The traditional automotive market. Tesla cut some corners and opted to either go for highest performance automotive chips (microcontrollers and microprocessors) even if at that time it did not make financial sense or it down right went for non-automotive solutions. You can do this when you do not rely on your cars being profitable and you rely on the financial markets support. Fortunately the end user benefitted from this on the lomg run and due to the hype around the brand the users accepted more easily the reliability issues.

Not sure if I would call the infotainment laggy, have you tried an ID4 production car (not a prototype car) infotainment system? Tesla is leading the battery/tech/infotainment, correct. However everything else VW win that I value high on my list. The charging network doesn't really matter to me, daily commute, charge at home and at work if needed. I don't need to have superchargers every 50 km. As I say, different target groups. Both cars are good, but VW will be targeted for the majority and not the tech people. The higher second hand value, is that what you THINK or do you have facts? Because there is no ID4 on that market yet. It might become the case, but I like actual facts.

I have ordered the ID.4, I’m afraid of the Tesla build quality, but Tesla does know how to develop software and batteries.

The official VW data shows 2124 kg for the ID.4 1st Edition. Checked it again just to make sure. Maybe there is a mistake. Did you find 2024 kg ?

I would go for the ID.4 as well for roughly the same reasons. Then again this would not be the first time I underestimate Tesla.
