Shoutout to Leon! Always great to see him in the videos cause it shows you’re an actual family man, not just a UA-camr. Also, the reef moonshiner should do wonders on the sps. Rubidium dosing gets the colors popping!
Is it the Rubidium that's responsible for a lot of the SPS coloration? I better read the handbook! 😂 But yes, at this point I am ready to sing the praise of the Moonshiner's as well, I definitely saw a difference ever since I started.
Little man is getting so big now. Before you know it he’ll be helping you with water changes. Lol. That pink tipped torch you picked up is really nice and bright. Thanks for the video and update
Love watching your vids and your tank is so wow just started a reef tank redsea max e 170 have a few frags in there but can’t wait for it to start looking like a mini reef
Nice vids mate, Just a reminder... You should really be dipping all your corals before they go into the display. Also I think your torches would appreciate more flow.
*Ur wife in the background cracking me up, reminds me of the wise master laughing at his disciple in those c-dramas - lol* My 150 is empty if you want to toss anything my way :-)
Why not use a bone cutter to cut the bits off the frag disk that don't have the zoa? This way the zoa will quickly grow onto the rock and no protruding frag disks with empty areas?
Excellent video and coral wow. Of course the clam looks awesome. What was the name of the frag rack you have the awesome torch on? I’m a euphylia junkie and can’t wait to see it fully opened.
The modular rack is from PNW Custom: www.pnw-custom.com/product-page/modular-frag-system This euphylia world is a slippery slope. I am now seriously considering a $200 single head Hellfire Gold Torch 😂
Is the greenish brown color on the backwall dead coralline algae? I have the same thing on my back glass and some in my sump as well. Thanks and love the videos.
It really isn't for fragging purposes or for his intended purpose as it leaves flesh behind that will just regrow he doesn't call himself inappropriate reefer for nothing 😜 for your purposes it would be better to take a little of the rock from underneath the Grandis with cutters as this will leave no flesh behind and provide a sound glueing surface without damaging the Paly Please take all precautions...stay safe
Hey James, like others mentioned, doing it under water plus taking a little bit of rock along w/ the polyp is probably the safest & best option, versus ripping them off from the base like I did!
I’d love to purchase some coral from you so anytime you wanna cut something down I’ll 100% buy it just to say I have coral from my favorite UA-camr lol!
From what I understand, soft corals would engage in chemical warfare as well since some lack actual stingers like LPS. There have been murmurs about photosynthetic gorgonians having some sort of toxin, but I haven't read any concrete proof yet. So far it seems to be the Zoas and Palys that are on the "watch list," for the most part! Although... lots of nasties in saltwater, so be careful either way!
If you mean the clear rack I used, it's: amzn.to/3BGSxwH. If you meant the single coral frag rack for the Torch, it's: www.pnw-custom.com/product-page/modular-frag-system
Nice I’m jealous of your SPS. I was about to start another tank that’s just SPS. I bought the tank, but recently got into a vehicle accident, went on vacation and had some medical bills so I’m probably going to hold off until the first of the year.
i dont think bumblebee snails will prey on clams... pretty sure the issue is that you got small clams (low success rate to start), have very high nitrate, lighting is low, and I dont think you have mentioned feeding them any phyto
Hey Noah, great points here that I will review - does high Nitrate affect clam negatively? This I am legit not familiar with (I'm sitting at around 30 ppm); I heard dosing phyto is not a requirement but I do still do it twice a week since the Crocea & Maxima clams are sitting on the sand bed at the moment, so they are only getting around 100 PAR which is quite low.
@@InappropriateReefer hey, sorry from past vids i thought your no3 was higher... I think 30 is great. Ik smaller clams (like you had trouble with) need alot of nutrients to survive. I know your radions are turned down so im assuming they were not getting enough food. Also, I believe phyto target feeding is recommended for the smaller clams! Cheers mate
Yes, AFTER I accidentally let tank water get into one of them at the 5-6 months mark. I ended up just buying another pair. The first pair was solid and fresh up to that point.
Just save the corals you want from the Paly rock a ditch the whole rock paly and all...the tiny bits of flesh left behind will just regrow and the Palytoxin level most likely higher than before to protect themselves from being ripped at again (they probably think they got ate)...that which does not kill us makes us stronger
That was definitely not the best way to do it. Should’ve added water into the container so it would’ve been done under water. Watching it spray palytoxin like that definitely worried me.
Second comment got pulled can't figure out why just trying to say company's like Topshelfaquatics shouldn't be sending coral to people that can afford it. Why not lower the cost of corals that hard working people buy. And I also think the inappropriate reefer should give away reef gear and live stock he gets for free to his viewers ( after he tests) especially viewers who can't afford the stuff company's send. Lets see if this get removed
This comment made it, and I was able to catch your last one as well but didn't have a chance to sit down and respond (sorry - dad life!) I think it may be because you added website link so YT thinks it's spam and removed them. I appreciate you taking the time out to leave the comment and I get where you are coming from. I don't think what you and I say would dictate the pricing of corals much, since it is largely driven by the market and what people are willing to pay, and vendors are running a for profit business after all, this YT corner is just a very, very small slice. I could potentially hit up some vendors with the idea of give-away events as a way of good-will (and more promotion? win-win!), think that may be cool? In terms of reef gear I received, these days I only accept what I would use for my systems so most of the stuff are in use. Older equipments that I received for free, I already give them out locally to fellow hobbyists when I no longer use them. I have been avoiding doing give-aways and shipping due to all the hassles and time involved (again, no time!), but if any vendors are down to manage that portion, I'd be happy to facilitate and hook fellow hobbyists (and vendors) up!
No I really love your content but what I said was it's a turn off to see companies like Topshelfaquatics.com and Worldwide corals giving free stuff to people who can definitely afford it. The high prices they ask for their corals is kinda ridiculous and its a turn off to see them giving away hundreds of dollars of corals and the cost gets passed on to every day people. The advice I want to give is it would be awesome to see you take the coral and gear that you get and pass it along to your viewers. Especially viewers who can't afford the high prices a few coral dealers charge. I know why they do it so maybe review the product and coral and then give it away. For some reason comments seem to disappear when you name a few companies in the business and with UA-cam deciding what comments they deem appropriate a lot of content vanishes.
From what I’ve heard and done it’s best to frag zoas/palys in water so no toxins become airborne.
Solid tip, I will try that next time, thank you!
@@InappropriateReefer Definitely do it under water 😉
Ok but the grandi that squirted got me tho 🤣

Topshelfaquatics is great and the employees there are top notch, very informative.
Nice evolving tank and set up. You certainly do think things through. Nice to be connected and have that network. Careful with those Palys.
So strange seeing Leon grow up every episode haha. HE'S GETTING SO BIG. Also, love your videos. Look forward to them always.
Little dude is growing up along with everyone. ☺ Thanks Chris!
Glad I stayed to the end...I checked phosphate this morning...it was .18 I forgot I fed corals last night lol thanks for the reminder
Awesome corals!! Tank looks great. Hard to find a better-looking one. Leon is growing faster than some kenya tree.
YES! You got a pink stylo!! I haven’t seen one before! I would love to get one. I love my Dark purple one. The polyp movement they have is amazing!
another great video! good luck with this clam
Love watching your vids and your tank is so wow just started a reef tank redsea max e 170 have a few frags in there but can’t wait for it to start looking like a mini reef
You really need to check for Pyramid snails with your clams. In currently fighting them and its a chore to say the least.
Try raising your crocea clam higher in your display. They appreciate highier and intense light compared to other clam species.
Recently lost my 4-polyp gmk frag due to melting, gotta get a new one now! Awesome corals man.
Can't wait to see...
Sorry man... any words of wisdom as a GMK grower?
@@InappropriateReefer expect them to melt. Hahaha! From what I’ve heard is that they can grow very fast, but are highly likely to melt. ;)
My crocea clam closes up around 4:00 as well. Only on weekends do I get to see it open
Nice vids mate, Just a reminder... You should really be dipping all your corals before they go into the display. Also I think your torches would appreciate more flow.
dude. use coral cutters to chip the rock underneath the grandis. that way they wont squirt. and you dont injure them so you can sell them later on.
Never apologize for the random babbling! watching Leon and your Reef grow is heartwarming
*Ur wife in the background cracking me up, reminds me of the wise master laughing at his disciple in those c-dramas - lol*

I still have some gorgonians living in the sump if you're local.. 😉

I like this.
What food are you target feeding at the end of vid?
We just added our first zoas and my daughter is terrified of them. 😝
Awesome video as always, Where is the 3d picture from on the wall that you mentioned, I didnt quite hear it?

I keep wondering why hot pink stylos aren’t more popular. I can’t find them anywhere!
Woah how have I never seen those before?
Exciting stuff…
I’ve been looking for a granda paly’s!!! Where did you get them?
From a local reefer years ago! These guys grow pretty well... let me know if you're in the DMV
Hi, I have some paly grandis I want to remove from a rock and put on to frag plugs. Is removing them with tweezers the best way to do it?
It really isn't for fragging purposes or for his intended purpose as it leaves flesh behind that will just regrow he doesn't call himself inappropriate reefer for nothing 😜 for your purposes it would be better to take a little of the rock from underneath the Grandis with cutters as this will leave no flesh behind and provide a sound glueing surface without damaging the Paly
