I just realised how much more sense the puzzle ribbon makes for DID awareness, rather than autism awareness.
As an autistic adult, I see the puzzle as ableist in regards to autism, and like most autistic adults, I reject the puzzle ribbon in favour of the rainbow infinity ribbon for autism awareness.
For DID, however, I don't see how the puzzle ribbon could be at all ableist. Frankly, it makes the most sense because you're all separate but one, like the puzzle ribbon.
Petition to make the puzzle ribbon the universal symbol for DID awareness.

As someone who may have DID. And certainly has complex trauma. I like the puzzle ribbon for DID. I think it sort of fits for all dissociative conditions. Because in other conditions, despite the absence of additional personalities, it is primarily post-traumatic and leaves one such as myself with massive memory problems.

Hysteria was removed from the DSM in 1980 and was replaced with various diagnoses that the APS considered components of the original diagnosis. Some of the names of these have changed in the following two DSMs and are currently called:
    Dissociative Disorders
    Somatic Symptom Disorder
    Factitious Disorder Imposed on Oneself
    Conversion Disorder (Functional Neurological Disorder)
    Histrionic Personality Disorder
    Borderline Personality Disorder
Many of these disorders are considered Traumagenic in origin and so it has been retrospectively theorised that Hysteria was an umbrella term for all the symptoms displayed by women who had experienced trauma. The label was often used pejoratively and dismissively by the extremely patriarchal institution that was psychiatry. Interestingly, these component diagnoses remain some of the most highly stigmatised and controversial in modern psychiatry and all disproportionately effect women. Gross, A. (2019) Hysteria Today

the fact is is that there’s SO many different opinions on how rare DID actually is. i’ve seen professionals talk about it being more like a fraction of 1% of the entire population like 0.01%. but because of this we don’t actually know what’s right. i choose to believe the figure you gave is correct but it’s still such a debated subject x

You have to check on individual studies but usually people actually diagnosed will be 0.01% in european countries which have higher diagnostic criteria than in US. People in US who actually have a diagnosis might also be faily low -probs less than 1%. But they also do longitutidal studies in a city for example- Bristol in the UK recently hosted one where they screen everyone for eveything to see what the actual numbers are irrelevant of doctors expertise or access to treatment- those statistics tend to be much higher for Disosciative disorders which by their nature developed to keep trauma victims safe and under the radar. They also might do smaller versions of those studies in mental health populations etc

I wanted to come back since I noticed I haven't had your videos randomly pop up on here in awhile. Saw your Instagram post too and just, congratulations! I would be lying if I ever said I wouldn't miss the alters and their unique personalities, but I'm extremely happy for you that you've reached your own goal for your mental health. I hope you, your family, and life is and always will be well.
And I just wanted to say, too, that you don't ever have to give up "MultiplicityAndMe" because of final fusion. It is still valid to keep that and even expand on it despite everything because this was your experience if you so choose. It's also valid to just not come back too if you feel your job is done, because it's your life and your choice. No one can fault you either way on this, and I just wanted to reinforce and show support either way on it.
    Happy healing!

This video actually reminds me that I suggested this channel and a few others to my intro to psychology professor because she didn't have any videos for DID. (She only had one video that showed the different personalities in "Split" and I was not going to let that stand uncontested.) She was very nice about it, and added the videos and channel links to the course folders along with sending an email about the updated information. This video will be great for the students in her courses as they get introduced to Psychology as a whole, and hopefully correct some misconceptions they might have about it.

Hey, it's been a little while since the last time I came around these parts. Your channel was the first one that I really focused on when learning about DID, and started to wrap my mind around this fascinating, heartbreaking, altogether somehow incredible condition and the fact that the human mind is capable of these things.
How one person can in fact be several people, or at the very least parts of a whole, and the implications that has on each alter's identities, their outlook on life, how terrifying it must be to experience at times, but also somehow inspiring as a protective trait? And of course, its origins in trauma and the unconscionable things someone may be subjected to prior to its onset. I don't know, there's a lot of emotions wrapped up in it for me, because I overthink everything, and I don't even have the disorder myself.
All I can say is that your videos were both educational and entertaining, and helped me learn more both about the condition and the people and systems that experience it - as well as offering a look into the life of someone who was clearly making great progress on their healing journey. And it was an incredible thing to behold that all of these individuals could be parts of the same person. Ollie with his casual demeanour and youthful wisdom, Jamie with his dry humour and intellectual bent, Jake's warmth and enthusiasm, Ed's straightforwardness and Jess as the thoughtful and well-spoken host. Though I can't really reduce any of them to simple descriptions, their different characters definitely stuck in my mind, especially when I consider they all have the same body, with the same brain... it's remarkable. They were and are all charming in their way.
I read your Instagram post a while back that mentioned Jess integrated to such an extent that you may all have possibly fused. I was thrilled to think of your newfound sense of wholeness, though I am sure it's also been challenging to adjust to the changes. And there seem to have been many changes - a new child, a new job... I'm honestly happy for you and Gaz, and hope things continue to improve for you. I don't know when you'll come to read this, but I'm wishing you and your family nothing but the best. While I hope you'll continue to be present on YT in some fashion, I know you have to do whatever is best for your life and your family, and just the thought of you happy and fulfilled is enough. I'm sure many people feel the same.

I have heard Brain Scans being used to tell the difference between someone with a healthy brain versus one with some sort of mental disorder/illness. Right. I hate to think my brain can actually look different because of trauma. Which it seems is what they must be saying. Thank you for these videos! We all, as humans, need to better understand each other's experiences. And the knowledge needs to spread.
A family member's (FM) friend was diagnosed with DID or something similar relatively recently. Before that, their friendship was essentially over, or at least at arm's length. The friend had treated FM in a confusing, hurtful way that was not good for their friendship. Now, I don't even have to be close to the situation to tell that the friend is getting the treatment they need. The individual treatment has allowed for huge relational healing. It's beautiful to see the ripple effects on the two friends' kids and beyond.
I don't know the details of the situation AT ALL-it's none of my business*. But I wonder if that friend would have been diagnosed earlier if DID and similar disorders were better understood.

*I almost didn't leave this comment, but this account is pretty anonymous, and I figured the "FM" vagueness further helps. It would be very, very, very difficult for anyone to figure out who I'm talking about. :P

Dissociation and Derealisation that you mentioned has had a significant increase in search results after Bo Burnham mentions having them in a song from his new Inside special. Not making a point or anything, just thought it was interesting and good the more people know about any of them

Hello! One of my system friends recommended you guys and I love the channel! I have been wanting to get a diagnosis for DID/OSDD when I turn 18-20 (I’m 17 as of now) due to having some symptoms of it and also having childhood trauma. I’ve also been trying to get advice from my aunt who is also a system.

Thank you so much for posting this video. This has literally validated my experience in trying to seek a correct diagnosis over the last 9 years. It's so nice yet sad to know that I'm not the only one to have gone through years of incorrect diagnosis/treatment as well as complete dismissal of my symptoms. ❤️

    I have DID
I wasn't diagnosed until age 61. With the help of UA-cam and you I was able to finally, get on track with mine. I was a travel agent all my working life. I'm now traveling in my tiny home van and creating and channeling on UA-cam.
You're so important in my discovery.
I'm building my DID INTO my channel, instead of hiding it. Cheryltimeify is my channel, it's a work in progress.

Took me 8 years to get my daughter diagnosed. Now diagnosed still no help from our doctors. If doctors don't knowvabout DID then they shouldn't say things like ' your imagining it, stop lying, stop attention seeking" ect. Which is what my daughter has faced. Thank you so much for your channel as its given us alot of hope when time and time again we've been let down. Its along fight we've been fighting and seems never ending.
