      Russia has never had the strongest or the best army. The occupation of states by Russia was not determined by armed force, but by the ability of agents and spies to disassemble, destabilize and corrupt the political elite of countries. This is happening in Europe right now. Putin invested a lot of money to gain influence in the media and at various levels of power in opinion-forming and non-governmental organizations, such as environmental ones. In Poland, we also have the fifth column. How to recognize it? It's easy . It is enough to check who has been pursuing the Kremlin's goals in recent years. No matter what the politicians say but what they do.

Most are against Putin, but there's a difference in being a very wealthy Russian businessman, who has actually worked with Putin, and a democratically elected leader of a country who has to play the geopolitical game, whilst some has ties to Russian oil and gas supplies. I respect this but for speaking out, but apart from his own safety (and that of his family), maybe his wealth as well, he doesn't have any bigger responsibility to anyone, no public or countrywide threat from Russia will come from his words, but this would happen if a leader says the wrong thing, anyway it's actions not words that are needed, that's what I judge Western leaders on.

Give Putin the bare minimum of Donetsk, Luhansk and the Krim for peace or continue the war. Putin will go on with a 10 year war if needed I believe. He is not going to concede on those bare minimum demands. Of course Ukraine should not have to, but its a pick between two evils. I really dont want to see Putin rewarded for this, but I cant believe he will back off from those demands. Waging war for years would cripple both Russia and Ukraine, countless lives will be lost. That's a clear difference there.
      Mearsheimer's coined his views to be "offensive realism". If you apply this to the ex- Warsaw Pact countries, it actually justifies the will & need of these smaller, sovereign states to look for security by joining NATO currently, against the ever present existential threat of kremlin. The characterization of Putin tallies much with his rise to power. KGB training, obedience, execution of order first questions later and of course secrecy. But most important of all is Loyalty. His loyalty to the Mayor, who helped him, his loyalty to Yeltsin, who knighted him irrespective of their character _ corrupt, drunkard or not!
    What really counts in any Mafia gang is really the utter dedication to the Patriarch rather than to an idea or an ideology. This whole inner circle is based on that kind of ethos and that is why, despite a better judgement, the taboo associated with disloyalty makes one even accept personal death or the annihilation of the world as a better choice. It has something sacred associated with it. And if you grow up within such a community, you tend to project it as the reality about the world. You distrust and generally disrespect people, who profess humanism or other ideologies and the only thing you believe in and respect as the member of the mafia tribe is the Power and the Whip.

      Yeltsin adviser[edit]
      Khodorkovsky also served as an economic adviser to the first government of Boris Yeltsin. "During the failed 1991 coup by Communist hard-liners", Gessen wrote, "he was on the barricades in front of Moscow's White House, helping to defend the government." Shortly thereafter, having lost his faith in Communism, he and his business associate Leonid Nevzlin wrote a "capitalist manifesto" entitled The Man with the Ruble, which stated in part: "It is time to stop living according to Lenin! ... Our guiding light is Profit, acquired in a strictly legal way. Our Lord is His Majesty, Money, for it is only He who can lead us to wealth as the norm in life."[20] You need to read his biography, your comment is very narrow minded and with no fundament. He has more experience than trump and people voted him president.

    • @cherylk.2474
      @cherylk.2474 2 роки тому +1

      True, lifting sanctions will put Europe in greater danger of being attacked by Putin, and an attack on Europe would result in poverty for Europe. Putin would do to Europe what he has done to Ukraine. So the choice is clear, sanctions must remain on Russia until Putin is removed from power, just withdrawing from Ukraine is no longer sufficient. Mr. Khodorkovsky has the measure of Putin. Putin will not stop with Donbass, or Crimea, he will keep taking land, Ukraine and beyond, until he is stopped. The best solution to this is the Russian people removing Putin from power, the sooner the better. Then there will be hope for peace in all of Europe.

      Well, this is not an argument against what he says, this is an argument against him personally, which is a form of demagoguery and besides the point. However, and more importantly, not everybody who becomes very rich fast is an oligarch. If that would be the case, then the guys like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos would be considered oligarchs, which they really are/were not. RF is a capitalist state and getting rich fast was rather easy in the nineties, if you jumped the train at the right time. We can speculate how that was done by this particular guy, whether he resorted to corruption or not, but fact is, even if he did, that is extremely hard to use against the thoughts he presented in this interview. He spoke from a position of a textbook political dissident, not from a position of a businessman. What he expressed were political views. I recall him from the nineties and he's pretty much a different man now.
