I loved Duffy I was really sad when she stopped performing after what happened to her. Angelina was brilliant here....again. This performance was obviously to fit the needs andxwishes of the film company. They obviously wanted a feel similar to Duffy. But Angelina never duplicates

Her version of "Mercy" is great, but to hear Angelina in Goddess mode you have to hear her sing "YOU SAY". I can listen to her sing that song time after time. It should be in her new album if it contains any cover songs.

That was an amazing performance. Personally, I think it’s one of her most beautiful covers however, I think if there IS a cover song on her new album, it will be a song that none of us have heard before. I really think it’s more likely that all of her new album’s songs will be original.

It's funny, you play Duffy's live version & it's really good, better than I remembered the studio version. Then you play Angelina's version & it's a gut punch that it's so good. The details & nuances just takes her to another level & it's astonishing! It may be magic, LOL.

@@hans-georgschroter7887 So far, 23 singers, mostly young, have covered Angelina's arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody. Although none of those performances can come within cooee of Angelina, it is obvious they all have great respect for her.

This didn't get much exposure because noboby bought or saw the movie. Angelina is singing all the parts in this video, including the rap, something she is not able to do live. And this is her arrangement. This is just one more example of why she is the most versatile singer on the planet. Duffy's version is very good. But Angelina's version is "off the chain". I'm glad she made it part of her set in the Norway concert. Great reaction, Pontus.

Good morning, Pontus. Many thoughts swirl. I remember when it dropped, early 2022. There was a buzz going around about whether Angelina could be relevant to a younger generation. I always felt the discussion seemed like one of those fake suppositions meant merely to create hype, so my internal answer was always an eye-roll. She sings so well and has great taste. Duffy is not the only artist borrowing heavily from the past in "new" music. When I heard "Mercy" for the first time via Angelina Jordan, I swore I knew that song from about 1969/1970. So, I went hunting. Really? It is a contemporary original song? Really? Written by another European singer I'd never heard before? Really? Complete with organ? Once that got through my aged brain, I thought, "Well! Here's proof that Angelina can just do what Angelina loves, and she's current!" And then Angelina dropped the Elvis Cover, "Suspicious Minds" She clearly did her homework on that one. After my research, I realized that Angelina had really respected the original sound/vibe, but clearly added the nuances of her vocal interpretation--more vocal fry, more smoke, etc. I had read some of Duffy's back story, so I understood why Angelina covered it, rather than it be sung by the original artist. Yes, Pontus, I agree with you. I hope Angelina Jordan does more movie covers. Like others in this comment thread, I'm watching the April calendar run by like one of those flip books. I'm waiting for that single that was announced, and even recently, with a crew of firemen to bolster it, alluded to as "very soon." I suppose "very soon" is on industry time. LOL! Anyway, it is really nice to see both artists, and to appreciate again one of Angelina's many "contemporary" voices. Thank you, Pontus for the reflection. I also was at the second Sandefjord concert and we met very briefly. I talked a bit more with Alan and also lended him a charging cable since he had left his at the hotel! I discovered Duffy already when she released her first album which I bought when it was released 2008, as well as her second album 2010 so it was a pleasant surprise when Angelina covered "Mercy".

In the videos you featured, the first was like a vin rosé and the second a rich, full-bodied red wine.

@@Pontus-Osterlin All voices that you hear is Angelina's voice. Conformed by Michael Astar who was in the studio when they recorded this song. Angelina can sing anything. Just order something, she brings it with a twist.
I'm amazed at how good Duffy was live on this one. I only had viewed the official video before. Not to take away anything from Angelina, Duffy seemed to have a better (higher) head voice. But Mount Everest showed us she can really have an excellent one as well. It appears to depend on the song I guess. Great one Pontus 🙂

I was there at Norway were you guys was there of my wife’s private we went the other way we saw you taking pictures and interview people. She went the other way cause she’s very private refund from Midwest USA. So I heard her before the last several times we went there when she wants wishes tendering Elvis Presley song.
I think she will probably likely she will do more movies especially since the production company of the Hating Game is Federal Films it's a subsidiary of Republic Records. Someone I used to know many years ago a singer who was well known in the film industry for singing in movies. 3 of the songs she sang in movies won Oscars. and 2 got her Grammys

Two things seem almost certain to me: 1) Angelina WILL do the next Bond song - her style fits, and I have a feeling the new album is going to get tons of attention for her. And the Bond producers often seem to go with recently 'found' (by the general public, and music industry) newer artists; and 2) Multiple Grammys next January - best new artist, best song (without even hearing the album yet - her musicality, ear, voice, taste, decisions, versatility, etc are so amazing that it almost seems inevitable), and possibly others.

Pontus, I don't see how it would be possible for you to not listen to her newer material. I think the only way you have been able to pull it off is by working very hard on the Podcasts. 🙂Yes, I agree that the music could have been toned down quite a bit, in fact. We all know Angelina is the full orchestra and her voice MUST be featured in anything she sings. I believe things will settle down as composers, musicians and producers understand it is a major mistake to drown out her voice.

Angelina sang it so close to Duffy version that most people actually think it's Duffy so not much exposure at all unfortunately
I love Angelina's version of this song but I think it's kind of too close to the original. As you said, Pontus, she can adapt her voice to suit any song but in this case it would have been nice to have more "Angelina style" in it as most people (I think) won't notice the difference between this and Duffy's recorded version 😉
The Live version you included in your video makes it clear how much she can twist and turn a song. :)

GOOD JOB, PO! Duffy wrote a fun song, very catchy. Her voice suits it well. The voice is "thin", lacks body but has some sass. Angelina's voice has more warmth with sass plus includes jazz phrasing. It is fun to compare these different artists. Lanna Delray has a comfortable voice, but lacks range and passion. Just an example. Thank you sir.

Angelina’s version is sassy and smoky. I hear the Billie Holliday twang she is so good at. Her talk session is awesome. Yeh and I agree the music is too loud and some of the mixing was not ideal. Bit clashing and competing a little much.
