Suffered palpitations for years since before the age of 10. Was very scared as a child when they first started. Over the years I had a number of checks and doc's said heart was fine after checks such as ECG, and EKG. Still the palpitations continued. At the age of 30 or so I started taking around 5g of magnesium a day. Heart palpitations stopped!! I am a little concerned that you mentioned low blood pressure being a sign of too much magnesium, as I do have low blood pressure and am now thinking this may come from the magnesium megadose I take. From tonight I'm going to drop it down to 2.5g.
mrmegabuckssongs , May want to check are you saying 5 gm tablet or 5 mg of magnesium? I have read that 1.0 gram of magnesium should be enough . 5 gram sounds like way too much. Do like my quote , and let us know how much you are taking now?
There is no way you're taking 5g of magnesium!!! lol At 1g everybody would have diarrhea, no matter what form it is. Most people can go up to 700mg a day. Check the elemental content of your supplement, not the net weight :D
Thank you Chris! Great video! I would like to mention that diarrhea is not necessarily a sign of too much magnesium but more often a sign of malabsorption. Even taking the wrong type of magnesium supplementation can cause diarrhea. That is the reason why going for food as a solution is always better. I also like doing float tank therapy for skin absorption, you can not overdose through the skin. :)
Soils are depleted. So not an option. Somehow my serum magnesium was fixed 3 months after I switched to an animal heavy diet?! Even though I didn't increase my supplementation?! Can't explain this -. -
Your depression comes from the vegan diet. Check Ex-Vegan videos on UA-cam. All suffer. Interestingly enough, after 2 years of trying to fix my serum magnesium with 500mg Magnesium daily, it was only fixed in my last blood test 3 months after switching to an animal heavy diet. Can't explain this. All I did was double my animal protein intake. Does not make sense at all. Was going to switch the magnesium form, because I was getting desperate :-O
I started using food-grade Magnesium Chloride USP to make ingestible liquid magnesium. I found it's the type of magnesium that agrees with me best and I feel instant good results from it. (And I take a pinch of salt with it too.)
The lack of salt sounds like me for a while. I wasn't maintaining sodium enough even when salting to taste. I think I solved this by drinking lightly salted water. It does this by also maintaining proper blood volume so blood pressure is fine
More magnesium has removed daily calcium deposits that formed on my two front teeth and which had to be scrapped off. Can extrapolate that to all tissues.
Depending on where you live, it's likely not in the food in sufficient amounts, especially not in the US where magnesium deficiency is at epidemic levels.
You can't get enough. Even today, it's recommended to get about 3-400 MG daily (you can look this up). You might remember even Al Gore ran his presidential campaign in 2000 around Magnesium deficiency in Americans. It was a big deal for him (along with Global Warming) as the backbone to his presidential run. Magnesium is a very serious thing for the human beings indeed. Do the math on your daily intake, you'll be surprised at how minuscule the amounts are, no matter what you eat.
@@NikoHL does not matter. The soils are depleted from intensive agriculture. Actually, I don't know if it's a coincidence, I've been trying to fix my serum magnesium for 2 years, I supplemented with amounts close to the diarrhea threshold, and yet it was fixed only in my last blood test after switching to an animal protein heavy diet for 3 months. Can't explain how this happened. As he said, meat doesn't look on paper to be a good Magnesium source :-O
Hi doc, I had great results after trying Magnesium Glyscinate for lower back spasm, but I just can't sleep. I was taking 400mg everyday and upped it to 800 mg. I stopped now because I felt like a zombie. The only thing that cures my back is Mag. Any advice?
Do you recommend any particular brand of Magnesium Glycinate? Carlson Chelated Cal-Mag product? Peter Attia suggests supplementing with Mg can be considered an anti-aging approach, since it helps with lowering insulin and IGF, both implicated in premature-aging when elevated. He recommends Mag Slow, and Mg Oxides/Sulfates (Jarrow, Now). Does blood sugar spikes deplete Mg and raise raising insulin and IGF? Also, any thoughts on the Keto Flu, which is said to be a result of low insulin causing the kidneys to secrete more water, and hence lose more electrolytes (sodium, magnesium, potassium).. causing cramps due to the loss of Mg/K from the kidneys?
I don't have any product recommendations for Mg Gly right now. I don't know if blood sugar spikes deplete Mg. I do think you need more electrolytes on keto. But I think the "flu" is also from taking time to adapt to an alternative fuel source optimally.
Wow. great info on the importance of salt for health conscious individuals. didn't realize salt plays a role in transporting magnesium into cells.... Also, in regards to excess magnesium, is that a concern from food intake alone? Or is that more for those taking magnesium supplements? I often have less than ideal poops that air on the side of being too mushy and I'm wondering if this could be why.
What about supplementing with magnesium malate? There are so many types of magnesium supplements, maybe you could do a video on that topic :) Thank you.
All you need to know is this : organic or inorganic. Inorganic are oxide and carbonate. These are more likely to cause diarrhea on higher doses, as they seem to be less absorbable than organic forms. The other forms are organic.
Jeez i get why my swedish family doc says magn testing in subsidized medicine is not reliable 😅. U inspire me to switch freely between healthy eating styles 🌹
Hi I would like to ask you what would the best choice between magnesium gluconate and Mag. L-threonate? Thank you. You do a great job with your videos they are excellent
I would say that depends on what you need it for. Mag Threonate seems much better for center nervous system mag deficiency or perhaps excitatory neurotransmitter problems.
@@chrismasterjohn It's been 3 months but if you see this can you explain why? Is it too much chloride like in potassium chloride? Have been taking Mag chloride but it makes my gut a bit off.
Most people eating a diet based on junk-food (i.e., body parts and animal secretions) are deficient in magnesium. This is because our magnesium requirement is based on our eating a (proper) paleolithic diet, consisting of plants.
Sure, most magnesium in the diet is ideally supposed to to come from plant foods, but a deficiency is not a result of eating animal foods. It's the LACK of magnesium-rich vegetables in the diet due to overfarming, soil depletion, and pesticides. Even vegans/vegetarians have been found to be magnesium deficient, especially if they eat too many raw plant foods which, due to the excess antinutrient intake, can lead to deficiency
