It goes without saying, I think, and yet it needs to be said, that this is a highlight of my ministry life. I am a recipient of God’s blessing, poured out through John Piper. And I have been, for many years, indebted to him for his writings and his preaching. There aren’t a whole lot of preachers that I listen to. He is one, at the top of the list, and it’s just an honor for me to be here, a joy to come and be a part of the Desiring God conference.
I trust that in the process of me being abundantly blessed already, I may be able, by the grace of God, to leave you with a small blessing, but if not, it will have been well worth it for me alone to be here just to enjoy the fellowship.
    The Need for Endurance
It’s a big subject to talk about, to stand and to endure. I remember as a young boy, my dad reminded me of the words of the apostle Paul, “Having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13; all Scripture quotations from the NASB). And he said to me when I was very young, “A lot of people have done a lot of things, but when the smoke clears and the dust settles, they’re not standing.” And he directed me in those early years to the words of the apostle Paul, where he said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). And he challenged me very early in my life to make that my goal. He went to heaven two years ago at the age of 91, and into his 91st year was still teaching a Bible class every Sunday.
His father, my grandfather, died at a much earlier age of cancer. I remember as a small boy standing by his bed when I think I was about 9 or 10, and my dad saying to him, “Dad, is there anything you want?” And he said, “I want to preach one more sermon.” You see, he had prepared one and didn’t get to preach it. It’s like fire in your bones. So my dad took his notes, printed them up, and passed out the sermon at his funeral. By the way, the title of the sermon was Heavenly Records. So he preached on heaven from heaven, and that’s how he went out. I have a great legacy of men who have been faithful to the very end.
As John said, I’ve been at Grace Community Church for almost 40 years. Can you imagine those poor souls? I’ve been baptizing and seeing people come to Christ to the third generation. Last Sunday night I baptized two more of my own grandchildren, having baptized my own children. I stood in the waters and heard the precious testimonies of Ty and Olivia from two different families of my children, and could hardly contain my gratitude to God for his grace in their lives through that church. I really do believe that when people say, “What’s been the greatest influence on the life of your children?” the answer of course is, the work of the Spirit of God, but beyond that, it is the tremendous, relentless, comprehensive, and unified effort of a whole congregation of people to bring to bear the truth on their young lives. So it has been my delight to be in one church all these years and to see my family grow in that church.
    An Enduring Ministry
I really have lived in my church life on the backside of when you’re supposed to leave and nobody wants you. Several times during the life of our church I thought that I should leave the church. I walked into a staff meeting one day to such a surprise. I had invested in five young guys, discipled them personally, loved them, met with them early hours of the morning during the week and went over spiritual things and prayed with them and built them into a staff of pastors who worked alongside of me. I walked in one day and I said, “I just want to tell you guys how much I love you,” to which one of them responded, “Well, if you think we’re your friends, you got another thing coming, buddy.” And there was a mutiny on the spot. They tried to overthrow my role as pastor and take me out of the pulpit. The sad fallout of that was four out of the five left the ministry for life. It was more than I could bear, and I would’ve gone if there was anywhere to go. That was about eight years in.

Was this the time that a large group of people came forward about the misconduct of church discipline. There were tons of allegations of abusive cover ups.
I am inclined to believe it, mostly because I've seen MacArthur slander lots of good churches and completely misrepresent their views in a manner reminiscent of an SJW calling everyone who disagrees with them a Nazi, except MacArthur likes terms like palagianism.

We have been very blessed by his teaching of the Word of God. The only reason we stopped going, was because we did not live close by, and because of our medical issues. I couldn't express how much I thank our Lord God who sent pastor John Mc Arthur to rebuke me through him and drew me back to Christ since last five years now. I'm an Indonesian Christian who regard him as my own pastor, father and friend of mine and I assure you I will cry hard if God call him first. He's one my daily list on my prayer along with Paul Washer and late Sproul. I love his dull, old fashioned sermon or whatsoever people call it. I'm not entertaining my ears and my feeling. I'm pursuing God's words through him. May our Lord grant him joy and peace to serve Him. Soli deo gloria

I can’t find anywhere in the Bible that God requested from His children to have a long and enduring Ministry His Requirement FROM all of His children is to Love Him with All our heart and Obey Him in the Old or New Testament it was His First Request. I hope none of God’s Ministers are trying to have a long and enduring Ministry but the Desire to hear from The Father WELL DONE.We don’t live for ourselves ]and our accomplishments but to Do His Will and Glorify Jesus Christ our LORD.Matthew 19:many that are first shall be last and the last shall be first. We are crucified with Christ and live for the Heavenly Kingdom.

If you can’t see Jesus and God in this man then I truly feel sorry for you he always gives the Glory to God. He is steadily ministering to God’s children. We might not like the things he says but he speaks TRUTH= THE WORD OF GOD. The word of God doesn’t change if it’s not politically correct IT IS THE WORD OF GOD. It doesn’t evolve like the times with whatever whim people have. THE WORD OF GOD IS EXACTLY THAT” THE WORD OF GOD” SOVEREIGN-HOLY-RIGHTEOUS. PERIOD YOU CANT CHANGE IT TO BE OF THE WORLD. “BECAUSE IT IS NOT” I say this in all loving kindness. @@monasoliz6972I don’t want to hear those words, “Depart from Me, I NEVER knew you”, from our Lord, either. That’s why I abide in Christ and HIS righteousness, HIS worthiness, HIS record, by faith in HIM. I don’t ever want to be deceived into believing I’m worthy to enter as a result of anything I do, like those in Mat 7:21-23.
I’m not very familiar with pastor MacArthur. Just now looking into his sermons. Does he teach that our redemption to God and our being justified (now) before God is through faith, alone, in Christ and His righteousness, which is imputed to those who believe? The Obedience of faith?

It's a shame that he has slandered the eastern orthodox church by calling them a works salvation religion, by taking a summary of the epistles of James out of context.
Of course, he does that to a lot folks who don't follow the historically marginal and extra scriptural doctrines of grace...

Thank you for sharing this Pastor John MacArthur. . . We started our church, House of Prayer in 2011. Right out of our Garage. We started with just a handful and by the turn of the next year (2012) we was about 50 plus, with only One Sunday School. Not sure how it happened or if it was planned, but in 2015 almost everyone left. . . They all told me the same thing. . . 'Pastor we need to take a break, we'll be back!'. . . All within the year. . . From 2015-2017 i preached to the same 5-6 people in which two is my wife and son. . . When 2017 came around the corner i decided to quit being a Pastor and stop having Church😢😢 BUT GOD. . . BUT GOD . . . BUT GOD. . . I tried many times in 2017 to quit, but a neighbor down the road would say, hey pastor thank you for preaching last night (shoot i thought). . . Some people that live opposite our valley would say, hey Is that you guys preaching Sundays and Wednesday's. . . And many more stories like that. . . But what the Lord was showing me that its not those who don't show up for Church, or who stopped coming, but its those who chooses to hear and listen that matters. . . Those that left, we still pray Gods blessing upon their lives and their families, and i never stopped loving everyone of them, as God in His grace has done for me. . . My hope is that they can come back to our fellowship anytime they are ready as long as it takes, or at least come back to God and go to a fellowship that He needs them to be at. . . 2017 was really hard for me, especially when the Lord told me to leave my job of almost 25yrs. . . Long story short, the Lord showed me that i had lost/left my First Love, like the church of Ephesus in Revelations😂The Lord revealed to me that ive been so distraught over those who left, that i have failed to see that i have neighbors thats living all around us that needs God too. . . If there was anything that needed to be adjusted, IT WAS ME!. . . Well its September 9th 2023, and we are still preaching and teaching the Good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. . . Since 2018 the Lord has rekindled and fan into flames those embers that had been dying out in me, and have given me such a drive to continue to get closer to Him and to sit at Jesus feet all the time, the Lord has been gracious to me and my family and to our fellowship. . . In Ecc.3:1-8 the Word says there is a time for everything under the Sun, however, for the believer, there is never a time 'to Quit'💪🤙❤️🔥 To God be all the Glory❤️ Much Love and Aloha keep Shining for Jesus

Makes so much sense how Pastor MacArthur is able to stand so firm on the truth. He suffered through it. He had moments where he had nowhere to go, nothing to lean on but the truth. Because of that, even though he's given this fame today by God, he doesn't credit himself for anything and doesn't compromise on the essential truth. Great testimony

I attended Grace CC for several years while a student at Talbot. I am indebted to his ministry for helping shape my own approach to ministry. After 30 years of ministry, I too have had to deal with rogue staff and the collateral damage they bring upon the church. I can't imagine the stupidity that possesses people who had the privilege to work in such a great church alongside an excellent pastor and pull such stunts John describes. Thank goodness he didn't leave, but stayed the course and God rewarded him immensely.

    • @krissyyoung9264

I’m trying to learn what this pastor teaches. So many “amazing men of God” don’t teach the New Testament doctrine of Christ in us, the new creation~Body of Christ.
Can you say why you think he’s telling you you’re “going to hell”? Does he tell you you’re not “obedient” enough to be eternally saved?

    • @michaelbellino8644
      @michaelbellino8644 11 місяців тому

@krissyyoung9264 As I stated in my comment, I agree with the majority of his teachings. I have basically 3 concerns with his teachings. 1. His views on the mark of the beast. That you can receive it and after still be saved. 2. Salvation. He is a Calvinist and I can't reconcile that with the full teachings of the bible. 3. There is no baptism in the Holy Spirit, and those that believe it are in error and most likely not saved.
I am a pentecostal believer, so I believe that the HS baptism is for believers today. Ps John is a cessationist and believers that it finished with the apostles. He does not believe that the gifts are for the church today. I have searched the scripture and have found no text to prove his point.
He did a conference several yrs ago called strange fire (you can find it on youtube) where he stated this point. He mocked the idea that it is still relevant and mocked those of us who believe that.
He uses the excesses of the word of faith preachers to prove his point but is silent on the majority of us who believe the fundamentals of faith, including the baptism of the HS. It would be like me saying all vegetarians are going to hell because God told Adam to eat meat.
I believe that we should always corroborate teachings with the bible. In this case, I fine his teachings are not supported in the NT. I hope this helps.

Hmmm, I freely admit that I have one essential difficultly with John Macarthur. I will try to explain this with 2 examples.
In an interview with him he was asked why evangelicals did not agree with his Calvinist stance. His reply was that they did not agree with Scripture (or words very close to that). Immediately I heard that I thought, what only he knows what is truth?
That may seem a bit harsh, but for many years I have heard a number of people state something like them knowing what God would want or to say in a particular situation. This has led me to say that if you think you know Gods will - then you probably don’t know Gods will!

5:57. That's when the message begins with a setup of associate pastors and elders not being happy with his leadership.
8:22 is when he is specific to the video's topic -- he poses and answers the question of how to have a long enduring ministry.
9:57 is where you fast forward to hear nothing but the answer (skipping the setup)

On the one hand it's mind boggling that the events he described could ever happen to MacArthur for those of us that are younger and have only ever known him as a giant. On the other hand, it's easy to remember how much of a tremendous stranglehold the evil one has on this world and how much extra attention is devoted to those committed to God's word.

Well, on the one hand I'm quite pleased to hear that a godly man and a capable preacher experienced such a terrible mutiny and that 250 people left (elder led) since I too, as an elder in an elder led church, have experienced painful behavior from those claiming to be Christians. Maybe I was a problem too, who knows. But all of this goes to show too many Christian congregations are far too 1 Corinthians. No wonder we have such little impact on non-Christians. May all of us repent and be more like Christ.
