There are SOME things you can do. If you believe that politicians are bad, as I do, then you can give them less power. This is usually done by voting for lower taxes. This is usually difficult for people since they believe governments MUST play a big part in running everyone's lives.
A good idea, but the theory is not followed in practice. Governments don't just spend taxpayers' money but borrow massively (more so Labour than Conservative governments since Harold Wilson) to pay for their expensive and sometimes wasteful measures.
