Black cowboys were not the first. Mexican Vaqueros were first doing rodeo style. Spanish brought the horses, Mexicans learned the Spanish style riding and created their own to adapt to the region which Spanish were not used too. Then in northern Mexico and into what became Texas later the American Cowboy was born... The first Vaqueros (cowboys) were Mexican. Mexicans being ethnically mixed with Spanish and Indigenous gave them an advantage.... Spanish for riding style and horsemanship and Indigenous for knowing the terrain and harsh weather.
