Anyone that goes to north Texas needs to go to palo duro canyon, it's wonderful. Imo it's one of the best places on earth, also in the sw the fort davis mountains are a must.

How far north in CA are you planning to come? I could probably arrange for you to go to an art glass shop if you're going to be north of Sacramento in the Chico area. February is a beautiful month in this part of the state. The almonds usually bloom in mid-February and the pink and white orchards are gorgeous! Also, we currently have the largest infrastructure project in the US going on at Oroville Dam because of last year's spillway failure that caused the evacuation of close to 200,000 people downstream. You guys would like Chico. It's a very quirky college town with lots of cheap beer and restaurant bargains. It has quaint downtown shops including Bird In Hand, which houses a yo-yo museum. Then there is Madison Bear Gardens, a college pub with great burgers and dozens of beers, ales and ciders on tap, not to mention more oddball things on the walls and ceiling than could be imagined, including a full-sized stage coach. Chico also has the largest municipal park in the US, Bidwell Park, as well as the opportunity to tour Bidwell Mansion. You might even be able to arrange a visit to the Kirshner Animal Sanctuary near Butte Community College. They have a bunch of big cats like lions and tigers, as well as some other sorts of animals. Interestingly, Butte College now generates all their own solar power and sells the extra it to PG&E. And then there is Table Mountain, which is just what it sounds like. It's a flat mountain that was cut off by a glacier. There are some scientific devices on Table Mountain that track and record lightning strikes globally. Oh, and the Sutter Buttes which is the world's smallest independent volcanic mountain range! Google the Middle Mountain Society, or just "Sutter Buttes hiking" to find out about hiking tours. The entire range is privately held, but there are occasional tours into the range. The Butte County area has A LOT to see and do! I suggest contacting our local tourism office to see what they can offer to you in terms of freebie museum and park passes and whatever else they might be able to arrange. It would be really fun to see my backyard on your channel!

I hiked near there years ago and felt i was home, 108 deg and i was in heaven. My pain went away... i was in Texas for 7 days 7 days of heaven.

Brought back great memories of my times in Big Bend - I've walked the Window trail (actually before you guys were born!) but prefer the Boot Canyon hike better, which I've done twice along with friends from UK...which is where I'm from. Next time you are over in UK you should check out Chester - if you haven't already. Oh, and belated Happy Birthday Allison, Happy adventuring!
