I just took a three day winter trip through West Texas, to photograph Marfa, Terlingua, and the Big Bend National Park. The trip was full of hiking, landscape and astrophotography, and simply enjoying the region. West Texas was much more interesting than I initially expected, with Marfa being a unique artist enclave, the night skies in Terlingua being unbeatable, and Big Bend National Park being epic! Check out some of the images I captured and let me know your thoughts!

I have never been the same since I’ve spent a few weeks in the big bend. After attending a funeral of a childhood friend in Terrilingu we spent a month hiking, meeting new friends and enjoying the total vibe. It is special place in my heart…
Beautiful video!
Beautiful video I love west Texas , when I go out there I make sure to go as far as Ruidoso NM
OMG! Me too!!!
We got married in Maria on a mountainside we randomly stumbled upon 30 mins outside of the city. This part of Texas is pure magic, thank you for documenting your trip.
That sounds unique and incredible, I’m a bit jealous! Thanks for sharing and for the kind comment 🤠
My favorite video from the channel so far. It feels like there’s a production team working behind the scenes. Love all of it… video, photos, astro, drone, editing, music selection and the story. The skills are really coming together here. Not sure if you’re looking to be a Sony Ambassador but this will no doubt be getting some attention. Nice work Sam (and team?) I search for great videos like this but they are rare so I find myself coming back to watch the older posts and rewatch the gems like this.
This is a huge compliment, thank you! No production team, just me nerding-out at the scenery in this remarkable place. I’ll try to keep improving on the production quality and plan to do something similar to this on some of the bigger remote trips like this 😀 Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, it makes this a lot more fun!
So happy i decided to wander through YT to nerd out on photography videos--I love your page & experience. Thank you for all your hard work, expertise and sharing it with us
Extremely kind words!! Thanks for the comment, it makes me excited to keep doing it... and more importantly, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos!
Such a wonderful photo tour of a location I’ve never heard of. Nicely produced and edited!
Thank you very much!
Love the narration video and photos. New sub!
Wow, thanks for sharing your experience! One of these days I gotta get out there to see the rock formations and experience those extraordinarily dark nights. (also, I enjoyed the way you put the video together -- the colors, shots and editing -- very nice!)
You definitely do, it’s a very interesting area! Thanks for the appreciation!
Thank you for inspiring me to pickup the camera seriously again and resume making content on yt. After a year break your videos are a breath of fresh air for me creatively.
That’s an amazing compliment! I’m thrilled it’s an inspiration and glad you’re picking up the camera again, your videos are great, keep it up 👍🏻
actually makes me want to go to the middle of texas, which is something I never thought I'd say.
I mean... you still have to go through Texas to get to the middle of Texas so it's a trade-off!
Great video !
Some really beautiful images. Well done!
Awesome video, brings back memories. Marfa and the Big Bend, staying in the lodge and hiking in the Chisos is an experience I will never forget.
Great content! This video deserves WAY more views!
As a Brit it was especially wonderful to see this remarkable landscape, reminded me of the Dolomites
Dolomites are on the list for me still (I expect them to be even more extravagant)!
Great vid! I’d love to know more about the music you used. Such a vibe. Especially liked the intro song.
Great video man! Have been loving your content, you should have 100k subs already. Top quality stuff.
It’s fun stuff, I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
The content is shot beautifully!!!
Thank you! It’s easy with the scenery there!
That was really enjoyable, thanks and well done.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
Omg what a capture …your brilliant 😍😍
Thanks 👏🏻
I loved it ❤
Thank you!
Your channel is amazing, i really hope this year you get over 100k! voice, colors, information are spot on!
Thank you so much 😀
Really love this video format and some fantastic images, great work Sam!
Thanks for watching and the compliment - it’s a big deal having someone clearly more talented enjoy a video of mine 🙌🏻
@@TheOtherSamMallory you’re very kind but not at all, beautiful images and really nicely produced!
Awesome channel!! Love the tone, colors, look. You deserve a lot more views and subs. 👍🏻
Thanks a ton!
Great work - Big Bend has been on my list for a while, especially for the dark skies. Really appreciate all the commentary on the accessibility and uniqueness of each location!
Glad you enjoyed it, and think it should certainly stay on your list!
@@TheOtherSamMallory It definitely will - just one too many responsibilities right now, but I’ll put a trip like that together soon!
A gem amongst youtubers :) such cinematic feel. definately subbed
I really appreciate it!
Huge fan of the channel, can't wait to start my UA-cam journey!
I appreciate it and you absolutely should! I’ll keep an eye out for the first video!
Very interesting. Well done!
Thanks🙌
Great work, love it As well as the review of the A7R5!
Thanks for watching and the huge compliment 🙌🏻
Amazing work
Thanks a lot 😊
Awesome production. I like the style you used of showing us the place and your trip and breaking away to talking head to explain it. Great stuff. Beautiful scenery! I'm glad your trip rocked 😉
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and the helpful feedback… always great to hear what’s “landing” well!
That was some really cool photography thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching! 😀
@@TheOtherSamMallory you're welcome
Mate, this is very well done - you are punching well above your subscriber/view number. Keep up the good work
Thanks for the comment… guess I’ll keep punching!👊🏻
man, this is really great stuff...a real buttkicker to do finally my own stuff... thanks 🙂
Do it!! 👊🏻
Love the video! Amazing photos. I'm fairly certain that Glacier national park also has an international border in it as they used to have a ferry that took you to Canada and back inside the park.
Thanks for watching and for the comment! You’re dead right, Glacier-Waterton definitely does and there are a few other big parks like Voyageurs, Isle Royale, Glacier Bay and Wrangell-St. Elias… probably still missing some. Then there are quite a few monuments and lesser known parks. Not sure where I got confused on that one along the way but was way off 😂
Love it there! Next time you go make reservations for Chisos Basin for a night or two, try #49 or #50. It’s awesome stargazing in a mountain basin cupped and surrounded by the peaks. The Window Trail is right there too, it’s great.
Thanks for the recommendation, I’m on it! That was the original plan but I was a bit late booking… Chisos Basin didn’t have any openings. Thanks for watching 😀
Looks like a great trip, Sam, watching from a village called Botley in Hampshire, UK, Texas is on the wishlist...
Thanks for watching! You’ll have to make it happen, remote West Texas is certainly a unique experience… I’m impressed the little video in Texas is getting viewers all the way from the UK!
I like where this channel going, most gear review get skip to the conclusion not on photo tips, keep the photos coming
I love it, more to come!
spot #2 from you.
Thank you for your wonderful video and the valuable information. My wife and I are planning a trip to the area. Where did you stay with the pool?
Check out Basecamp Terlingua, this unit is Rafikki Ridge.
okay okay first of all - amazing pace and great looking shots. Voice over is soothing but not overly asmr :)) How did you get the shot in the car from the back seat? was the camera on a tripod or it was another type of grip? have been dreaming for this exact type of shot - although on much curvier roads..
I did it the slightly sketchky way... tripod! So if you do it on windy roads definitely strap that thing down because it's not very stable for turns!
@@TheOtherSamMallory I knew it :) was thinking for two magic arms attached to the headrests of the front seats. Could be a bit unsafe in general
"I thought the place rocked" 8:52
Pun may have been unintended, but I dug it.
Ohh yes, the pun was admittedly (perhaps embarrassingly) intended 😂 thanks for watching! 😀
I appreciate the pun. I like them lol@@TheOtherSamMallory
those images are absolutely stunning! Are all the video parts shot with your A7RV? (except the vlogging). Thank you!
I’d say about 80%, there are a few shots on the drone, and a few on the A7SIII. Generally though, the shots between the two Sony cameras are interchangeable!
Thank you so much for your answer! I actually settled on the A7siii after watching your video on the A7RV. You’ve really helped my decision and I am very grateful. Cheers!
Great video! Can you share the Airbnb you stayed at? Thanks
Thanks for the comment! It’s Basecamp Terlingua
Beautiful video. Is there a link for the airbnb
I don’t have a link, but you can google “Basecamp Terlingua” and it will come up 😀
In your road trip, What Lenses do you use for photos.??
What is the name of the first airbnb?
Nice... What mic are you using for voice over
I’m using the Rode NT-USB… at least in this one, I’ll sometimes boom up the Rode VideoMic NTG as well!
@@TheOtherSamMallory thank you
What Airbnb is the one near big bend?
Basecamp Terlingua is the one featured here 👍🏻
Hey I really enjoyed the video! The way you captured the beauty in Texas really reminded me of the Movie: „Paris, Texas‘. Maybe you check it out :)
Funny enough I’m about halfway through it and completely agree! Thanks for watching!
Can you share the Airbnb with the pool ?
