- This video compares all the settings inside GTA V to figure out the best settings that will give the most FPS while still maintaining a good-looking game. You can either try out my recommendations or make your own based of the comparisons I show in the video.
Grand Theft Auto V may be an older game by now, but it is still a very popular game and demanding game in 2020. It was really interesting to visit the game again, and I think it made for an interesting video where I definitely learned something new about GTA V.
I hope you all enjoy the video, if you have any feedback or suggestions for future videos, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

UPDATE: Check out the NEW and UPDATED VIDEO I have just made on GTA V where I was able to get even better results: ua-cam.com/video/4E3DudLXr8I/v-deo.html
In the new video I performed all my tests in game, instead of using the benchmarking tool, which got me better and more precise results 😊
Nice! Also, the "High Detail Streaming While Flying" changes between blocky Lego buildings or full models when flying. It didn't work properly in the benchmark, because you probably aren't considered to be flying in the benchmark.
@@MyAmazingUsername Arh okay, yeah that makes sense. Thanks for sharing that!
This is a good video, but there's a lot of errors:
1. Population Variety doesn't make you lose performance, but it definitely adds a lot more to your VRAM usage, due to all kinds of different textures that the game has to load. If your GPU has a low VRAM amount, I'd say keeping this at like 20-30% would be good enough.
2. This isn't an error, but just a note: Shader Quality adds Parallax Occlusion to textures, so stuff like roads will look like they're 3D instead of 2D textures, which can really add to the immersion. Also, the difference between High and Very High can be a bit noticed with the lighting. Very High gives more natural lighting, depending on the time of day.
3. Shadow Quality has a BIG performance impact, on the ground at least, because it increases the resolution of cascades and possibly the amount of cascades as well. The difference between High and Very High is super noticeable everywhere you see shadows, because Very High, as said before, provides you with more cascades and higher resolution shadows, meaning that you won't see that ugly shadow pop-in on the ground you usually notice while driving. Also Shadow Quality can have a 200MB VRAM increase from Normal to Very High.
4. Reflection Quality can have a big impact on reflection quality (obviously), especially when looking at mirrors, glass from buildings, reflections on your car at night, puddles, shiny floors, etc. You can clearly see the jagged edges. Ultra afaik renders the reflections at native resolution (or your current resolution, I'm not sure).
5. Water Quality has a big difference between Normal and High. I don't why you said you didn't notice it, but even in motion it's super noticeable. High adds SSR (Screen Space Reflections) onto the water, and the difference that it makes is fairly huge. The waves are also more detailed, and it's fairly noticeable too.
6. Grass Quality in the air isn't that noticeable in terms of quality, but on the ground it makes a hell of a difference. Normal basically literally removes most of the grass from the game. High adds the grass back, and anything higher just adds more grass in the distance and also up close.
7. You missed Soft Shadows in the video, a very important setting, both in performance and quality. Soft Shadows can have a pretty big performance impact depending on your setting. The quality difference is also huge between every setting, after Softest it gets less noticeable though, but performance still decreases.
8. Anisotropic Filtering. I seriously don't know how you can say you don't notice any difference from Off to 16x, but Anisotropic Filtering is a big game changer in a lot of games, including GTA. Stay on the ground, look at a road straight ahead in the horizon and compare Off to 16x. Off makes textures at an angle look VERY blurry. 16x makes them extremely sharp/detailed. The difference it makes while driving is huge, I can't stand playing the game without Anisotropic Filtering. Also yes, it does have a performance impact, not a big one but 1-2 frames.
9. Tessellation makes a difference in things like tree trunks or rocks and stuff like that. It's not a very noticeable effect, but once you look closely you can definitely see the difference.
10. Long Shadows mostly only changes things at sunrises or sunsets. Because of the sun angle, the shadows will be much longer and it can have a performance impact on this game. You didn't notice any difference because you didn't look in the right place, you were testing it in bright day time :P
11. High Resolution Shadows does make a difference to shadows near you. It's not very noticeable in terms of quality, but if you look closely you can see more, smaller shadow details due to the increased resolution.
Great video, just make sure you check your stuff before uploading the video, so it's a proper and accurate video instead :P
Thanks for all that feedback, seems like you have been testing a lot yourself which is really nice.
You are generally right that I could have made the video better, but in my defense, this was only the second video I had ever made on the topic. Without going into too much detail around your list, I think a lot of it could have been solved by simply testing the game, in-game, instead of using the benchmark. That is my bad, I thought it would be easier and just as good, but instead it took just as long time and clearly was not as good.
Again, thanks for the feedback, I will keep it in mind for future videos 😊
@@BachTechNGames Haha no worries. Was just pointing out mistakes for other possible viewers as well if they read the comments. Also, I barely did any testing, in fact most of my words come from NVIDIA's official benchmarks and comparisons for the game (yes they have done this with other games too in the past).
@@EricPlayZ132 Did not know that NVIDIA has done that, that might come in handy 😊
Hello, I just want to correct u in some of the statements u have made
The Shadow Quality setting does not affect fps at all
At Normal shadows the shadows are present, but some minute details in the shadows will be absent, also there will be no headlight shadows
at high shadows, the night shadows are present, things like poles, grass etc. are casting shadows bcz of headlights, but npcs, other cars do not cast shadows
at very high shadows, all objects except main character and his car cast shadows at night time and day time, but I noted that there was no difference in fps, so his statement was correct
Grass quality has a lot of impact on both fps and quality, even there is big difference between high and ultra, and thats why most benchmarkers prefer to keep the grass at high or very high rather than ultra bcz of the frame drops in forest areas.
The shader quality seems to be more demanding than the reflection quality setting so pls note that as well
The high resolution shadows and long shadows does nothing to the quality and I have tested each setting carefully as well, there is no difference
@@EricPlayZ132 I have tested the shadow quality setting he is right, there is no performance impact
Jesus dude this video is super in-depth and I really appreciate the cuts so we can easily get around. Probably the best video I’ve seen that covers ever and even gives really good examples about what each thing does.
Thanks man, I am glad you liked it :)
Dude this more than doubled my performance and I barely notice a difference in quality! Thanks so much for going in depth and explaining everything!
Really!? That is awesome to hear, glad I could help you 😀
There are so many details on this video, and right now I know what settings to use for my PC! Loved it!
A side note : Reflection quality changes the mirror quality in game. if you select ultra, you will see your character with less jagged edges. Also it changes the quality of building reflecting on the car's body panels.
I actually needed this. Ty my man
this is the best video i have seen so far for the comparison between low to high settings in a game, good work MoTox!
Thanks man, appriciate it ;)
Hope you have a nice holiday :)
Probably the best video about graphics settings I've seen so far. Thank you.

Amazing job bro!!!

Bro you made me to like the video
Awesome dude!
I only use postfx for motion blur, so I only use high, with motion blur if you're getting around 30-40 FPS it looks a bit smoother, least for me.
Thank you!
Glad I could help 😄
This Video is amazing Rly the best one out there Herpes me out a lot
That is awesome to hear man! Glad I could help you 😀
I can’t believe, how much time to do this
Yeah it took a lot of time, but it is definitely worth when the video is reaching and helping so many people :)
I cant believe the people that disliked this video, yuck
@@BachTechNGames you should put „comparison“ in the title

Could you do a video on warzone settings ? Also keep up the good work ! :D
Hey @heruboi I was considering making a video on warzone, so I might, I will try to look into it, and see if the potential is there for the next video.
Thanks for the kind words ;)
most helpful video ive seen
Thanks man 😉
Thanks for your effort in making this! I have a question, do you get extremely laggy at the pause screen/viewing map?
Yeah, it seems to be a bug within GTA, dont know why it happens. It wont always happen so I usually just close and open the pause screen until it fixes itself, eventhrough that is not a proper solution.
I am glad you liked the video :)
Thats your fps jumping from high to low vice versa, this only happens on singleplayer but to fix this turn vsync on or cap the fps using msi afterburner
OMG MY FPS WAS AT 30 NOW IT'S SO SMOOTH TYSM SUBBED AND LIKED :D
That is awesome to hear 😀
nice video but can you make a new were you have brightness with to and maybe show it all in dark brightness?
So you want me to test brightness?
Thanks bro! I just redownloaded GTA V and gonna try this, much luv
Edit: I just want to add that having the following will give so much performance drop when travelling on places with grass
Long Shadows
High Res Shadows
Extended Shadows
Thanks man :)
And thanks for the advice, good to keep in mind
thanks dude
Glad I could help 😉
Awesome video mate! Please do one for Doom eternal
Thanks man :)
I will try to look into it.
i appreciate the time and effort you put into this. great vid :)
Thanks man!
👍 good stuff
Thanks man 😊
Thanks
Ty for THE Good vid
Glad I could help 😉
Great vid man!, i have a question, why does gta online runs a lot worse than story mode?, i can’t seem to have the same settings in both
Thanks man!
It is because of the other players, you also have to render them and all they are doing which can stress your CPU a lot because it has to keep tabs of everything they are doing, within a certain area of you.
This is a great video
Thanks man, I am glad you liked it 🖤
thanks my pc nvidia gtx1650 ram 16gb strong and i am very happy because gta graphics are good👍🏻
I am glad you could use it 😀
Well done
Thanks :)
Thanks habibi likenand love
I just suded I am going to try thats my self I hope game don't cut out like it was be for
Thanks man and welcome aboard :), hope the video is able to help you
Thank you so much I am not lagging
Awesome dude! Glad I could help 😃
It'd be nice if there was a recap at the end that ranks the most important settings in regards to FPS impact, and a quick display of the fps range from lowest setting to highest and the sweet spot.
Thanks for the suggestions, in regards to "a quick display of the fps range from lowest setting to highest and the sweet spot." what do you have in mind?
love the video, its just that with my 3080 on 3440x1440 I still get low 40 to 50 online lol
Yeah at some point it will also just come done to the fact that the game is getting old, and is not optimized for current gen hardware.
@@BachTechNGames actually i got 80 now somehow turned some stuff down a bit
@@protectaa Ohh well that is nice 😉
I get about 100 fps on 4K high settings with a 4070ti so if anyone is looking at that card and play gta there’s a little info cause I wish people gave specs that have what performances they get

hi!
im just downloading gta and im really new to this type of games.
I have an i5-9400F + RTX 2060 + 16gb of ram.
what settings would you recommend to me if i wanted stable 160fps in game with my 165hz gsync monitor?
Thanks in advice,
Otso
Hi Otso,
That is a really tough question to answer. I honestly dont know. My best recommendation would be to watch my video and try out some of my recommendations. Also remember that getting so high frames in GTA V can be difficult depending on your resolution. GTA V is known for being hard to run on both the GPU and CPU.
I hope you figure something out, GTA V is a really great game, I really enjoyed the campaign.
I have a 2080super and ryzen 5 3600x 16gb of ram and a 1440p 165hz monitor, I don’t get anywhere near 160fps I would rather just play at ultra at 80-90fps tbh
Thanks my 1660ti and 4800u is crushing this game
i have 1660 and ryzen5 2600 in the online i have 45 50 fps the fck ! i oc to same performance as gtx 1660ti and getting 55 some times 58 fps when 18 players or 27 players
Ty mann
I'm glad you liked it :)
Yo bro nice video 🔥
Should i run my game on very High instead of normal?
I have 2gb Vram
Thanks man. If you 2 GB of VRAM you should proberally stick to normal instead of very high. I think you might run into issues otherwise.
@@BachTechNGames Thanks Bro

@@BachTechNGames if I had 8gb ram and the game stutters in good pc I should play in normal before I got more ram?

Awesome! Welcome aboard
in my opinion getting 40 fps in gta is fine. I used to get 30 fps on ps4 and its fine. so i dont have a problem with getting 40 fps on ultra because its not even noticeable.
Bro should I get rx580 or gtx970.All I play is open world game. And will it bottleneck with i5 4440?Thanks
I would recommend the rx580 since they both perform about the same and the 580 is newer and has more VRAM.
Whether it will bottleneck is a tougher question to answer, but try to search around for that specific combo on Google and UA-cam you might find someone who has tested it. Personally I think it will be fine.
@@BachTechNGames thanks you
Personally, at 1080p, 4x MSAA and 8x MSAA is literally the same, aside from the tons of FPS consumed by the 8x MSAA
