ive been up that road many times over the years ive lived in duma..i always wondered why theres many crosses along the road?...didnt kno the road was of any connection to ww2..thanks for the history
The crosses aren't actually anything to do with the road's construction. Some local church or whatever has coopted the road as some sort of pilgrimage route, and are kinda pretending to own it. Having said that, I am sure quite a few GIs died building it, so the crosses could be seen as appropriate the other 364 days a year.

Those three vendors in Japan pretty much have a monopoly on genuine parts, so yes they are expensive.
