All that time in Truckee and you never went to the Donner memorial state park. No wonder kids today are so ignorant of American history. But as long as you had your coffee everything was cool. What a dingbat.😄😄😄
As I've got older ( late 30's now) I have realized that what makes me happy in life is not what I own, eg cars clothes etc, which is good because I don't really own anything nice lol it's seeing beautiful things, being at beautiful places. Where I live in the centre of England is completely industrial there are just factories and work estates everywhere. There aren't any nice outdoor places to visit or walk around. My job involves delivery of things to these factories which is so depressing, I don't dream of having a nice car or expensive clothes or a big mansion anymore. My dream now is to visit beautiful places on earth, specifically America. California being one of them. Also I'd like to visit Colorado and a few other places in the states, my dream would be to do like a road trip of different states for a few months at a time and eventually visit every part of America. So fingers crossed I win the lottery and my dream can come true !
@@scotty1004 I am lucky and blessed, but cost of living is so high here, 2/3rds of my paycheck goes to rent, and the high cost of food takes up the rest. Eventually will have to find somewhere less expensive.
Hey Scott!!! I have my fingers crossed for you! But, don't need to win the lottery to do it! I always roadtrip on a budget!! the most expensive thing would be the plane ticket for you. But yes california is amazing and a perfect to state to road trip so many beautiful places! I haven't been to Colorado but its on my list!
Sweet! I grew up on Donner Lake, our old dock was in vid, also I graduated Truckee HS '85. At 14 yrs old I was 14th in state championship alpine racing giant slalom. Used to rock climb the rock faces going up Ole hiway 50, also used to ride dirt bikes up at train tracks. I used to be able to hear train at night on snowy winter nights. Thanks!
SOOO good to hear from you again! The tunnels are well worth the trip but difficult to get there in winter as you found out. Check out the petroglyphs that are also on the way to the tunnels but covered in winter. Some of my favorite places in Truckee are 50 -50 brewing company , Village Pizzeria, and Bar of America in a old Bank of America .They have live bands on Thursday- Saturday.Thank you for not drinking and driving. Smart girl ! Looking forward to your next video. Thanks a bunch!!
@@GabriellaViola It is quite an experience. Some of the graffiti are works of art.It does get quite dark in there in some areas so let your eyes adjust to the darkness. In some areas you will break out into a open spot that allows you to experience what the people would have seen when they rode the train. It should provide some shots that you can get that you wouldn't get along the road.Have FUN!!
that is so awesome to hike to those train tunnels that would be like a dream come true for me. we used to hang out at a place called mount Wanda right near the John muir historical house in Martinez.
Truckee is my home away from home when I base myself in Tahoe 💙 I'll be back in a couple weeks! I have family that lives there. I love the rustic mountain small town feel. Awesome local shops, bakeries, coffee houses. Legacy trail is great if you do it in full or just sections. There's some great short hikes in the Martis (Creek) area.
Thanks so much for the info!!! There is so much i didnt cover..I was just there for half a day...next time I plan on spending the night so i'll have two full days and can do more things!
I am in desperate need of a vacation where I want to travel alone!! This is a beautiful place where I could go alone and feel safe. I definitely putting Truckee CA as a possible place I will visit soon!
I tried hiking alone in the wilderness once. It was in the Tahoe area. Soon after I started my hike, I saw a guy standing there watching me. As soon as I saw him, I thought “danger,” and I went back to my car. After that, I found a good place to hike. It was at the Emerald Bay State Park. There’s a steep, wide, mile long path from Highway 89 to the Vikingsholm mansion. There were other people on the hike, including families. I felt safe, and was safe, surrounded by all of those people. There’s safety in numbers.
This is where Kiely Rodni disappeared after getting drunk at a party in the woods, driving drunk at night. Now that I see those tunnels and someone talking about train engine snowblowers, she must have gone through one of those and her car ended up in the Cold Creek Lake. Somebody mentioned to look in there, but Adventures with Purpose is making the trip to go look for her in the next couple of days. In the meantime, I'm doing my research from home.
Hi Gabriella. Truckee is one of my most favorite mountain/ski towns. Have you ever tried Sweets Handmade Candies? Definitely one of my favorite candy stores. Like always enjoyed your video. Keep it up. 😊
Thank you so much Jon! i didn't reallly get to go into any of the stores or restaurants but next I go I definitely will! And i'll check out that candy store as well 🍭
One of the craziest things to see is during or right after a massive dump is the HUGE train engine snowblowers and V Plows. There are videos on here. When they are in Truckee parked, the blades are around maybe 12 foot tall.
My wife and I will be in Tahoe for all of July and thinking of going here to escape the july 4th crowd. Do you know if Donner lake / Truckee will be crowded during this time?
I’ve gone to truckee the day after the Fourth of July and donner lake wasn’t too busy! Obviously this was after the Fourth of July but it would obviously be less busy than Tahoe. They have paddle boards you can rent and that was so fun! The shops in historic downtown truckee are fun too and they have a lot of coffee shops to try 🙂
I live in the Reno/Sparks area and visit Truckee on a regular basis.
Thank you so much for watching A Day in Truckee California! Let me know what your favorite thing to do in Truckee is in the comments!
I've never been there yet but I do plan on going someday I live not to far

Maybe walk through Truckee? What are its features, attractions? What is the train tunnel significance?
I rewatched this, I was there last week.
Take in the atmosphere, and hike the mountains.
