My grandmother's father and uncle were both in the Austrian Hungarian Empire on the southern front fighting the Serbian Empire. That A/H helmet looks fantastic and the chin strap looks nice on it to. Hey thanks for the video.
My grandmother's grandfather was fighting for the Romanian Army during WW1. From what i heard he didn't die during the fight, he died after the war ended.
This was incredibly informative! I recently bought a WW1 Stahlhelm that had been sold to Finland and used in the Winter and Continuation Wars respectively (as a ww1 nerd and half finn, it was a must have). I was told by the seller that it was a German M16, but thanks to you I can now confirm it's actually an Austro-Hungarian M17 (repainted once in possession of Finland), which makes a lot of sense considering what you explained about the attempts of selling their stock post-war. Amazing video, thank you so much for giving me more insight into one of my favorite belongings!
Heya Mike, I actually have a fully refurbished Austro-Hungarian 66 shell. I could tell based on the liner and chinstrap it was different, but I actually hadn't noticed the difference in chinstrap rivets and stuff. Thanks a ton for the wealth of info you presented here, makes me extra happy that I scored the right kind for the flavour of reenacting I want to do. I'm new to your channel, but I really look forward to viewing more of your content!
Good video mike, I enjoy the helmet videos the most and I’ve been waiting forever to see that M17. But I have seen some Austrian m17’s that were in like a light green, probably for a different front?
i work at a garbage dump and when i was pushing garbage with my loader i saw one out of the corner of my eye and i instantly stopped, jumped out and ran over to it. its austro hungarian made in 1916, i know which factory because the stamping inside but i cant spell it. the best part though... it has a bullet hole in the forehead part and the exit comes out near the top of the skull, which makes it even better.
My family still has an Austria-Hungary helmet from WW1. Brought back by my grandfather. No chinstrap, but original pillows...light colored leather filled with some kind of straw.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO, I HAVE A GERMAN HELMET THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE ONE YOU HAVE BUT IT IS MISSING THE RIVET ON THE LOWER SIDE FOR THE CHIN STRAP. THE CHIN STRAP IS LEATHER BUT THE CHIN STRAP IS FASTENED BELOW THE LINER INSIDE THE HELMET SO I CAN'T SEE HOW IT IS ATTACHED TO THE HELMET. ANY IDEAS FOR GETTING IT AUTHENTICATED. THANKS SO MUCH.

hello,i wanted to know if you know if there is or will be a repro of an austro hungarian berndorfer helmet?i remember hearing that a company in india at one time made them, but i was unable to find them online.also is there a company here in the U.S. that make a fiberglass or resin berndorfer helmet?please let me know?thanks Richard
Looking side by side the ww2 german uniforms look far more like the Austro-Hungarian ones of ww1, the cut and style, the pocket shape with dovetailed flaps, the shorter cleaner silouette compared to the longer and baggier german waffenfrock of ww1. The greatcoat model is super apparent too. Considering Hitler was austrian I'd imagine that the ww2 uniforms were a pretty successful attempt at blending the two uniform styles
@@MikeB128 i think it's because a bunch of those helmets were pressed into Finnish service alongside other helmet designs and the one i have is one of them. Who knows how many repaints it has gone through the decades? Wonderful piece of history.
I happen to posses a (supposed) WW1 Austro-Hungarian helmet. Problem is it' s COMPLETELY black, with little sposts of rust all over, with a like serial number or something similar that says ''P18'' on the inside of the top of the helmet, which more precisely the P is written below of the 18 and has some weird shape that makes it more look like a hook pointing left. I bought it for a merely 30 euros at a sort of garage selling in southern Italy, it' s been like 3-4 years I' ve had this and I still can' t confirm if it's original or not, most of all after having saw the video I belive (more of a guess) it might have been one of the helmets reused during the 20s and 30s in Austria, unfortunately I am not an expert and I am not able to identify if there are any decals/symbols that got scraped off the helmet that might be in anyway related to that time period. If anyone can tell me even just if the helmet is original I would be incredibly happy! Thank you for reading my rambling lol.
I Have Seen Footage Of Austro-Hungarian Troops Parading In German-Like Helmets But With The Austro-Hungarian Double-Headed Eagle Plate On The Front. Could You Offer More Detail About This In A Future Video?
Yep, I just got a relic M16 that was dug up in Hungary. It has some of that reddish-brownish German paint on it still. I believe it was dug up in Transylvania, as that would have pretty much been the only battle that was fought on Hungarian land, and while helmets were being issued. Great video.

You mean Kingdom of Serbia? Serbian Empire was long gone by the time of WW1.

Great Grandfather was on officer for Austria Hungary
My grandmother's father was serbian soldier fighting and defending his homeland against austro-hungarian empire👍🤣
Did they pay for their war crimes?

Alpine troops.
I'll have to remember the information when looking at photos. ( German use of Austrian helmets. ) Go ARMY

If it's Austrian, it's a model 1917.... they weren't date stamped.
Great video mate
Me an austrian seeing that video: I will take your entire stock

I seems size numbers were also stamped in different places.
I have a black one, likely ss use, will have to check it out to determine if its originally an A-H or G one.
Most likely not SS....... More than likely a post-war reissue for Czech fire brigades.

Yeah I'll get right on tracking down a $3,000 helmet just to make a video because you asked for it..

That was a very interesting fact, I didn’t know the SS used Austro-Hungarian helmets I have a reproduction M1940 Stahelm
I now have confirmed I have two German helmets
I have an Austro-Hungarian m17 but its colored the same as its German counterparts.
Either a re-paint or some were painted depending on which theater they were in and their surroundings.

The dislikes are soldiers of the entente
Nice video! Were did you got the austrian helmet?
how about one on the difference between the ww2 and the vietnam

Also are u going to do a pasgt helmet video
Already did, look at my previous videos.

Those aren’t Austro-Hungarian Troops, those are soldiers of the Guard Bataillon of the Austrian Federal Army during the years 1935 until 1938
Mike I’ve found an original Austrian strap on eBay
Cool...
Awesome video. I'm thinking about buying one m1917 helmet
One Dislike is from Serbia
The Hungarian helmet looks better now
Did the Austrians ever get German helmets.
Yes they did. Before they started mass producing they used some German M16s.

I have a strange ww1 German-syle helmet. It's clearly a 18m German helmet, but it has been modified so it could be used as a fireman's helmet
