Something you seem to have missed in your review is that Nest also offer temperature sensors that can be located around the house, in the same way as Ecobee ones.

@japanwatchconnectionThe point of my comment is to point that Nest also has remote temperature sensors (while the video says they don't). Whether they work better or worse is irrelevant within the context I made the comment on.

@@oaquique Nest doesn't automatically include a sensor. I believe that is what they were getting at. You CAN buy it in a package but the thermostat is also sold on it's own. Nest's sensor also doesn't sense when you're in a room. You have to either schedule it to switch over or manually switch it over.
I'm curious what either would do if someone is near the thermostat and someone else is near a sensor though. The sensor schedule is rather limited but Nest does let you set it to start switching over early. That gets around the limited schedule in our case at least.
My issue with Nest is it doesn't allow you enough control. Even with auto schedule/eco mode/and home/away assist turned off if you adjust the thermostat one time it will somewhat randomly start setting it to that temprature ignoring your manual schedule. If I could get DH to leave the thermostat alone it would be fine but he's kind of a baby about being too hot or cold. I haven't used Ecobee so I don't know if it has that limitation also or not.

Nest requires periodic battery change and Ecobee does not.

Not if it's wired it doesn't. Only the sensors require batteries, which is true of any unwired temperature sensors.
