Family mostly, Juan (what's left of 'em, anyway!). Staying close to home. Gigs on the 30th and New Year's Eve. But I did treat myself to a cute little Sonor AQX "Jazz" kit! I'm having fun getting reacquainted with an 18" kick wide open again and trying to make the most out of just one all purpose type cymbal cymbal and a hi hat. Feliz Navidad to you and yours and thanks for giving all year 'round. 🙏☮🎄
Oh man mine is so messed up (in a good way). I just love that book and to me is the best drum book ever written. Infinite possibilities and so many great ways to apply it to music immediately. Cheers and glad you enjoyed the lesson!
Great video lesson. I worked my ass off around The New Breed in 1986. Aside from the coordination it gave me focus to the (quarter note) pulse. Hands on.
I try brother! I try! Hey man when you get a chance can you report my old Facebook page? I don’t think I’ll ever recover it and might have to start a new “artist” page too 🤦♂️ lost 80k+ followers on there. Yeah
appreciate that! Really appreciate it! Also just in case! New lesson! Getting Creative with Stick Control (Episode 1) ua-cam.com/video/9tTtquacKdw/v-deo.html
Nice one Carlito. I love the lessons you do like this (and the stick control lessons you did ages ago). So much mileage from classic books. Thank you 🙏
Appreciate it that. Really do! Just in case! Here’s the new lesson! Getting Creative with Stick Control (Episode 1) ua-cam.com/video/9tTtquacKdw/v-deo.html
Appreciate that! And YES PLEASE! The only way that’s going to happen is if people share the content and actually hit that button. 🙏 if people only did I could finally do a HUGE 100k giveaway!
Very good playing. But I miss the core of Gary Chesters concept: singing the pulse, the offbeat, the melody and any other voice of the used ostinato WHILE playing the reading.
Absolutely! I do that as well. I just didn’t do it in this video. Maybe I’ll do a part 2. The only problem is when recording I can’t have the lav mic on because it will peak and distort.
It’s the same song I used for the application. It’s called 42nd Street Shuffle by Rikard From. It’s on my epidemic sound just search the song and you’ll see it! Here’s my link for that.. epidemicsound.com/referral/enz1u8
Thank you Juan! Yet another tasty lesson. Sooo smooth, with dynamics. There's an end result I probably never reach. But, at 4:36 it sounds like the snare and kick doesnt line up so well,or am I wrong?
Could be. I’m human like anyone else, so there are probably plenty of flubs in there that I could fix in post, but eh not worth it. I want to be as transparent as possible with my playing. Plus I try to film these as quick as I can before my family gets home so I usually do these example in 2-3 takes at most.
@@JuanCarlitoMendoza I do understand the press for time. I also have a family. I appreciate your transparency, and I love to watch your videos and lessons. The things you do are unique and you do them so effortless with an amazing amount of finesse. But I'm not entirely convinced you're 100% human 🤗 Keep up your good work 🙏
@@JuanCarlitoMendoza Shit, I just had an engineer call me on a flam between the snare and kick on a shuffle. They were about 60 milliseconds apart! And it only happened once. Sheesh! 🙄
@@JuanCarlitoMendoza Mr Mendoza, you're killing me. I liked the sound of the Foundry Reserves but there was a slight clang to the sound. These paper thins are probably the dream. The average 14" Foundry Reserve hi-hat weights are approx 950/1160g. Paper thins could be around 820/950g maybe? Either way, I'll be watching closely to see if they debut in your upcoming vids!
Excellent except why not begin the double pardiddle on the hi hat with the left (weaker hand ) so as not to have to cross under when you hit the snare w the left hand (snare would then be hit with the right hand).. Harder at first bit easier and more efficient in the end .
Most people are right hand dominant so I just started it that way. You can do whatever you'd like. That's the beauty of new breed. There's no right or wrong. It's whatever YOU need to work on. Cheers!

Yep! Nothing like Gary Chester and his New Breed books, both of them. Gave me the skill to play just about anything, eventually. 😊
Yeah man what a great book and concept! Definitely my favorite drum book of all time.
