    I own the True HVL, and to control where the dust goes I don't use a vacuum, but I do use the vacuum adaptor and angle it in the direction I want the dust to go. Just a tip!

    Skilsaw hands down. That worm drive makes a huge difference especially when ripping stacks of plywood. You can damned near run while cutting and that saw won't slow or bind.

    I’m honestly just so excited skilsaw came out with such a modern classic piece for all the old school guys bc the old worm drive had their downsides but were always what you wanted for bigger tasks and I think they will still be the same way now just in the modern era. I think they’re trying to be more of what they do best and I respect that more than anything else

    There's no beating the history of the wormdrive skil, but when you look at the breadth of the battery platforms as a person who does more than just cut stuff with a circular saw I had to go with the Milwaukee because there's not much you can't do if you're on their battery platform.

    I committed to M18 several years back when the "counterfeit" Dewalt batteries I bought on evilBay crapped the bed after a few months work. So it was a no brainer to go with Millie-Walkay on this saw and good to see it hold its own with Skil. I am adding a Prazi beam cutter to make anvil bases from 8x8 oak. Appreciate the review.

    It's hard to compete with a Skilsaw worm drive. However if you are invested in the Milwaukee M18 tool line (like me) I would choose the Milwaukee. Thank you for the review.

    I’m left handed and being left handed I have learned to use a worn drive saw with my right hand. Yes the first couple cut are a little off if it’s been a while since I have used it but I quickly adjust with no issues

    I'm in the concrete business and I would love to see some of these saws cut 2x4 stakes that's where I always find the saws struggle the most. That would then be really interesting to see what happens

    • @CarryTT
      @CarryTT 5 років тому +6

      That's because you're trying to correct your cut line. On an angle cut for a stake there is too much surface of the wood pressing against the blade, it will work harder and either stall or kick-back. Commit to the angle you start cutting, you can't correct it half way when you realize you made a trapezoid shape instead of a stake.

      No problem when you pin that guard up! Just make sure to un-pin immediately after your done cutting those stakes otherwise Osha will show up and start piss'n & moan'n! Lol! Well could be actually slot worse! Could be a hefty fine! I've been fortunate enough to get away with warnings so I'm real careful not to get caught with the guard pinned up, worse case scenario figure out approx. How many stakes you'll be needing and what lengths and cut them at home and bring them to the job? maybe cut them a little long cause you can always cut a little off, unless of course you can afford one of those super expensive M18 fuel board stretchers?

    Even though I have a bunch of Milwaukee Tools because of the Acme deal I went with the Skilsaw. I have to admit, I'm really impressed how close this race seems to be in your video. I am curious how the Milwaukee will do in tough material like LVL. I was positive the Worm Drive Skilsaw would not have an issue and that's one of the big reasons I went with that one. Watching the dust fly out of the Skilsaw is another reason I picked that one. If I'm working inside on a remodel project I can control the Dust. If I'm outside I can put an elbow on it and direct it away from from me, win-win! Thanks for the video

    • @MostlyPeacefulCombatVet
      @MostlyPeacefulCombatVet 5 років тому +2

      We cut so many LVL and glulam with the fuel it's ridiculous. Standard and treated. The saws will not skip a beat. But both are bad ass saws. I'd like to play with the skil, but we have plenty of dewalts and fuels already. Taking the factory dust plate out and installing the included dust collection port did the trick for clogs when cutting treated LVL's, glulam and timber.
      I've not needed it but 1 time... But the extremely easy, no hassle warranty milwaukee does is why I steer from other companies when possible. We still run several dewalt, mainly flexvolt. But when we have issues, we're just SOL.
      I think you'll enjoy the Skilsaw though, and surely they will have table saws and miter saws coming out...... Hopefully 🍻

    Do like the Milwaukee raft or hook, compared to other brands.....it’s pretty great. Far as “wormdrive” saws....think Skil is the only brand that has the market on “wormdrive” saws; but, how many ppl actually change the oil in their Skil wormdrive saws🤔, or do other other maintenance? What IS nice, can buy parts for the Skil pretty much Anywhere, & using those “parts etc...” isn’t hard at all, which is N I C E🤗 Last thing, the Skil dust chute is the BEST I’ve seen out there, it’s a freaking “snow blower”🤣 for throwing saw dust; but is it the “best” for you & what ya need.....that’s the question 😆
    Until the day comes that we can “customize” & create a saw to order, like a PC; you’re just gonna have to pick which is the best “for you”.....& might come down to battery platform your in, or even price..... But whatever ya choose, gonna be a good deal👍🏻

      My favorites are....
      The dewalt 577.... In sheet goods it is fast. Super fast. And the bevel stops are nice.
      The m18 fuel..... The only saw that I've had that "reaches for more power" when it is slowing significantly. Idk if it's the electronics or what. But I can stall the dewalt easier in glulams and wet treated timber. Otherwise the dewalt is faster.

    Me being a lefty, I personally wouldn't buy either one of these unless they came in a blade-right model. I got the Gen2 M18 7-1/4" circ and love it! So does the rest of the crew, gotta chase it down at times lol. I get the biggest kick outta watching right handers get that "lean" trying to look over the body of the saw to see the blade follow the line where for me it's clear as day! I could see why rightys would love a left-blade saw though, then I'd be the one struggling :)
    I'd have to say due to the dust extraction (although my Milwaukee clogs often too...), low to zero maintenance, and the wide range of tools for the platform, Milwaukee wins.
    I don't cut much MDF, but I've never experienced a cross-cut clog. It's always a rip cut getting them long shavings that seem to clog the Milwaukee quickly. Might try taking the port out and see if that alleviates the issue, it came with a replacement for dust extraction. I think the shute is just too narrow, maybe with it completely out it won't clog as often, if at all.
    I have my gripes about the dust extraction on the Milwaukee too though, Try cutting rafter tails off a ladder above your head pluming them up to accept a fascia board, then that port is blowing right in your face! I guess no matter the saw, it depends on what you're doing with it if the extraction is a benefit or a curse!

    Thanks for the content bro! Like button SMEESHED! I love the m18 fuel. I did take that plate that comes with them off and run the dust collection adapter that they come with. Helped tremendously in treated timber. They never clog in standard lumber for whatever reason. I've noticed the blade makes a YUGE difference in how that dust is made and thrown also. We love our dcs577 dewalts! They are super fast in sheet goods and the detents are great. Milwaukee screwed up on that. But it's not a deal breaker for us. The run time on the milwaukee is crazy, and they keep going when we think they are going to stall out. Like they somehow reach for more juice. Just some things we have noticed. I always grab a fuel. The guys will grab whatever they see first with a battery in it. Lol!

    I'd love it if skill would do a professional line of at least a few other cordless tools off the skill saw battery... Give us an impact driver , drill w hammer ( or standard drill ) , roto hammer ads and saw all.
    Then we would have a reason to invest in the cordless worm drive
    But as it is gotta " kit out" with preferred cordless set. Then add on specific corded tools, then invest in cordless worm drive and charging for it...
    Just to have the benifits of a cordless skill saw that in the end takes up as much space a a corded skill saw plus extension cord

    Man ole man , these are 2 bad ass saws. I'm going with the Milwaukee....I do believe in the long run the Milwaukee will last longer due to no maintenance....and the gazillion other tools on that particular platform. The Skil is a bad ass too....lots of power but what else does it offer ? Ok it does have a higher voltage battery but those who know .....know that volts really don't mean a whole lot.... remember 12 volts starts ur car everyday. I think it's very clear that the winner here is Milwaukee. I know this isn't relevant to the topic at hand however put a 8ah on the 6 1/2" fuel with a good blade and let it eat.
    Winner: Milwaukee

      Yeah, actually sounds louder on the video for some reason bro?

    • @elderfarms
      @elderfarms 5 років тому

      Antonio, there is no such thing as the pitch is “louder”. The pitch has nothing to do with the volume. What I can say is that different frequencies can effect how the audio is recorded, and most camera mic set ups such as (just an example) an iPhone will do its best to make quiet things louder and make louder things quieter. My air compressor is quiet as FUCK but it sounds loud over video, that is until I started to speak, the air compressor got quieter.
      Using and seeing these saws on jobs can allow me to confirm that the Milwaukee IS in fact quieter but this shouldn’t even effect any decision lol. There’s no reason why he would lie about the volume😂 are you slicing and dicing wood during church? I doubt it.. frankly Antonio, I doubt you even use power tools.

    • @AntonioClaudioMichael
      @AntonioClaudioMichael 5 років тому

      @@elderfarms yes there is a such thing as pitch can be louder the pitch is the frequency of the sound we hear as human we hear different pitches at different frequencies and a microphone amplifies the sounds and the software in the phone your refering to calculates and adjusts wether the audio needs to be louder and or softer and wether it needs to be brought to the forground or not oh and half of what your saying makes no sense I use power tools all the time you belive what you like what are you 13? Hi TRZ,
    Would it be possible to cover the dust extractor on the milwaukee 7 1/4" circular saw (left side blade) so the dust can go down under the blade guard? Just use to a corded style worm drive. Maybe a test and a future video? That's up to you my man, i know you are busy with other stuff.

    I wish DeWalt or Milwaukee can make this model 7 1/4" circular saw (left side blade) with a top handle like their right blade circular saw.
    I tried the milwaukee and dewalt flexvolt rear handle and it's too bulky. Plus it's not a true rear worm drive circular saw.

    Both are impressive, and pretty close in price, I think the Milwaukee takes it though, I dont see much around in the skill battery line that can compare to the M18 of Milwaukee line of tools especially the Fuel line. My humble opinion is I would stay in the line of tool as my batteries for my other tools. Milwaukee overall just have better tools across the board. The skill was not impressive enough for me to own it over the milwaukee

    I don’t mind the dust shoot on the Skilsaw at 45 degrees because when normal cutting it’s perfect shoots it to the side. At 45 degrees I’d just make something to stop it from hitting me. Overall I like the dust there vs the Milwaukee kicking it on your pants and shoes.
    I’d go for the Skilsaw but I’m on the Milwaukee platform and already about to buy a 12 MAH HO battery so will go will Milwaukee because of interchangeability since they’re close.
    I really like the Milwaukee look and feel but when it’s worn a bit doesn’t look so good. The design look and feel of the Skilsaw looks really to me but again I can’t see myself buying a saw and a battery I can’t use in anything else with the high price of batteries.

  • @jeffpowell8308

    I am heavily invested in the Milwaukee line up so I couldn't wait for Milwaukee come out with rear handle. It was worth the wait as it's the most powerful saw I've ever owned, corded or cordless, and I've owned 8 before this one. I've used the skill but having used sidewinder from my teens I do not care much for the length, weight or balance of worm drives. The Milwaukee is heavier than my other saws but the promise of all the run time and power in a cordless saw enticed me to adapt to a different feeling saw. I'm glad I did. It's great.
