In my area we used have an large sidingscomplex but not for carriages. The siding was the' Avenue' sidings near Tupton village , Derbyshire . This was part of the Avenue NCB works it was rammed full of coal wagons and hoppers after it closed it was derelict for years it is now part of an country walk hard to believe such an quite place was so busy in the past.

Nunnery carriage sidings in Sheffield (now the site of the Supertram depot) had 1000 staff (nearly all female) employed there. I spent sometime working there in 1977, tanking toilets a job given mainly to men! The sides were hosed down using standpipes. Cleaners would go inside the coaches and remove all the rubbish left by passengers. The toilet cisterns were filled by sticking a hose on the pipes that run down the sides of the MK 1 coaches, later types had just the nozzle protruding from the back. When the tank was full the water ran down the top of the roof and you turned off the tap. Toilets which probably had something in them still having no water to flush it away, could then be flushed. So if you are modelling sidings it is a good idea to make the inside of the track very dirty, but not the outside since the soap and water from washing the sides of the coaches would help keep it clean. Lastly the problem for me modelling carriage sidings is that you can't find the cleaning staff, especially female workers!

I totally agree James, I've been looking forward to covering them on our videos for some time to show just how interesting they can be - Dave

Hi Dave very informative with some useful reference photos, some suggestions -
1 " Carriage sidings" yields no search results on your website. Can you add a series of links or drop down menu on your website that lists or links to all relevant key products you demo and show on each video.
2 Add a series of stills in the form of a montage of the products you have supporting your video at the end of each video. Some are tucked behind others so cannot see what they are. This so we can pause on and see exactly which products they are.
3 Perhaps also add a link to each product you displayed in your video banner details, expand to others that are still relevant but no display space for video and not shown.
That would certainly help speed up my follow up (self service) on these items, you have spent a lot of time doing the research for these videos, would be great to preserve the detail.... Thanks.
    Stephen

Hi Stephen, thanks for the suggestions. There's a link in each video description to the products mentioned, and I do my best to mention the products covered in each stream, but I can certainly look at adding more info to the descriptions too - Dave

@@HattonsModelRailways Hi Dave, interestingly cannot see your description when viewing on my iPad but finally found can on my iPhone, how odd. It might be to your benefit to include a montage for those that cannot see that description field! Stephen

Any thoughts on what could be used to model the water pumps on these sidings?

They would look like standpipes that you would see in the street that firemen use, or when water shortages are on. So a you could use a piece of wire. I think somebody made some possibly Ratio, but I think they were included in a kit for something else.
